A New Journey

In the land of Hyrule, there echoes a legend. A legend held dearly by the Royal Family that tells of a little 9-year-old boy. A boy who, after battling evil and saving Hyrule, crept away from the land that had made him a legend.

Done with the battles he once waged across time, he embarked on a journey. A secret and personal journey. A journey in search of a beloved and invaluable friend, with whom he parted ways when he finally fulfilled his heroic destiny and took his place among legends.

His quest led him to a tranquil forest, where the first steps of this new journey unfolded. Link laid on his steed, Epona, dozing as she meandered through the woodland trail. Suddenly, a delicate tinkling sound, reminiscent of his friend’s presence, stirred him from his slumber. Groggily, he scanned his surroundings, the echoes of his dream still lingering. Yet, the source of the sound remained elusive.

Still searching, two tiny fairies, one yellowish-white while the other a deep shade of purple, appear in front of his horse, poking her. Startled, Epona jolted upright, her resounding whinny jolting Link from his saddle, and hit the ground harshly. Far behind, a figure resembling a whimsical scarecrow, donning an eerie mask, observed from a distance, emitting faint laughter. The pair of fairies swiftly darted over.

The kid lifts his mask revealing two small, red, glowing eyes, and looks over to his fairies. "Hee, hee. You two fairies did great!" he laughed. "I wonder if he has anything good on him.."

He suddenly noticed who it was. Link? "This guy?" the kid asked himself, crossing his arms. "...Well, that shouldn't be a problem."

The fairies stayed behind, keeping their distance, and watched as the kid crept over to Link, who was knocked out on the ground from the impact of the fall. The kid kicked Link, to make sure he wasn't going to wake up while he checked him for goods. Then, he flipped him over with his foot. The fairies knew it was safe, and they hurried over to help look.

The kid slowly searched his pockets and eventually found a small, blue instrument. Intrigued, the kid picked it up and looked at it with care and curiosity, knowing this thing was fragile and easy to break. He held it towards his face, turning his neck.

The purple fairy realized what it was, and got excited. "Ooh, ooh! What a pretty ocarina." He flew closer to the kid and the ocarina. "Hey, Skull Kid, lemme touch it! I wanna see!"

The Skull Kid laughed and blew a few notes into the instrument, ignoring what the purple fairy had asked. Suddenly, the other yellowish fairy flew towards the other and said, "You can't, Tael!" As they argued, the Skull Kid played more notes, making him laugh again.

Tael got a bit disappointed. "..Aww. But, sis... W.. why can't I try it out, too?"

Link finally was conscious again, and as he rubbed his eyes, he noticed the Skull Kid had his possession. He jumped, and stood up, his eyes still drooping. Both fairies noticed and made a loud ringing sound to alert the Skull Kid. He slowly turned around, unsure of what he would see.

"Ah!" he shouted, putting the ocarina behind his back, hoping Link hadn't seen it. Link took a step back, and, with a sudden surge of determination, Link lunged toward the figure, but it agilely evaded his grasp, springing onto Epona’s back. The steed, startled anew, galloped away, bearing the Skull Kid precariously atop it. Desperate to regain control, Link seized Epona’s hind legs, yet the horse’s frantic pace showed no sign of relenting.

Link groaned and grunted as he was dragged along the ground by his horse. The fairies followed, staying quiet. The Skull Kid though, had never ridden a horse, which led to both of them hanging on. As Epona made a sharp turn, Link was jerked off the side once again. Rolling, he made more grunts and shouts. He slowly got up, brushing the dirt off of his green tunic.

There were a few grasses he could cut, but he was in a hurry, so he ran fast into a large log, as big as a room in a house. As he ran through he stopped, looking at the obstacles he had run into. I just wanted a nice, relaxing break.. He thought. Link quickly climbed onto another, smaller, log and jumped across several others to get to another large log to walk through.

He was running so quickly, he didn't notice the giant abyss under him. Slipping, he fell to the seemingly never-ending hole, screaming.

In an instant, he plummeted into the abyss, his startled cry echoing in the void. Darkness surrounded him, punctuated by fleeting images—masks, ocarinas, and... moons with faces? As his consciousness wavered, he found himself atop a Deku Flower, bewildered and disoriented. The darkness persisted, his surroundings shrouded in obscurity.
