Chapter 1

Breathe in… Breathe out…

Breathe in… Breathe out…

“Ahhhh!” I screamed out in pain.

I need to learn how to control it before it takes over. The ache in my muscles and the soreness in my bones as they continue to snap but I won’t allow them to fully shift. If I do that, then I give the Hunters what they want and that’s a killing machine. Taking someone of my status was a smart move but dangerous for my kind. The humans and wolves have been at war for as long as I remember but it was more stay on your side and we stay on ours. However, we always seem to cross paths and it is never good for anyone. Books were written about how dangerous our kind is but that’s far from the truth. Outside of our wolf, we are just humans too. We bleed the same color but we are also harder to kill. That’s what makes us dangerous but we don’t have in our nature to kill humans. But in some cases, it has happened for protection though. They don’t see it like that, which is why there are Hunters that aren’t government funded whose main goal is to make us go extinct. That’s why they came for me and in order to protect my people, I sacrificed my freedom for them. A part of me regrets it because no one came looking for me. They accepted it and moved on from their lives.

“Shift wolf, and we all can go home.”

The hunter started to tease me while he sat in the chair with a cigarette in his mouth. I was on my knees and hands panting in pain. They were trying to build my immunity to wolfsbane so that even that couldn’t stop me from shifting. Using many experimental cocktails to corrupt my mind. If anything, it made me feel like I was going crazy. It’s been a few years of them trying to break me and I think this time they will finally succeed. With so little food and water my body is giving up.

“This is bullshit!” He yelled.

He had stood up from his chair before walking over to the metal table that had the instruments on them. He had lifted a filled syringe.

“What are you doing? That could kill her and we need her!”

The nurse rushed over to him to stop him.

“We have been doing the same dance for 3 years now. We have been giving her the same dose and never drifted from that. So why the fuck not?”

He pushed passed the nurse before taking a handful of my hair and lifting me to his face. I tried to fight him but didn’t have too much energy. I felt as he jammed the needle into my neck and the burning of the cocktail. It was like adrenaline that increased my heart rate. The monitor was beeping fast to the point I couldn’t breathe right.

“What did you do?” She yelled.

She rushed over to me and tried to access me but her little knowledge of the werewolf anatomy left her clueless. My body had hit the ground. I had enough energy to turn to my back while grasping my chest. My breaths became harder and harder but not enough oxygen was getting through.

“She’s seizing!”

Was the last thing I heard before my brain shut off. Thinking now, I could vividly hear voices talking around me and those touching me. Didn’t have any control whatsoever.

“Aura, wake up…”

An angelic voice so lightly in my head spoke to me. I still wasn’t awake but I could understand.

“You need to wake up, now!”

The voice sprung me out of my comatose state. I was propped up on my hands completely disoriented to my surroundings or any recollection of what happened. The burning feeling traveled through my body once again causing my body to begin breaking my bones. There wasn’t any control this time as I screamed every time it began to break. The doors opened up as Hunters and nurses came rushing in to check on me. I looked over at the IV on my arm and ripped it from my vein. Usually, in my weakened state I wouldn’t have enough energy to do that. The men tried to hold me down but I pushed them off with everything I had. My bones still breaking for the first time my face had formed and my snout was now what I saw. My arms had ripped through the chains which started to scare everyone around me. When my full shift had come to light I let out a loud growl that shook the room. I felt a pain in my side and saw it was a tranquilizer dart but it didn’t work. The same pain hit me but once again it just boiled my insides more. I tore through my leg chains and darted through the group of men but they had already closed the metal door. I slammed against it causing a dent but was still trapped. The hunters continued to try to tranquilize me but were scared that I was still standing. Still slamming through the door and causing it to dent further in further until it was broken down. I didn’t hesitate for a second before escaping through the open side and through the halls before freedom was right in front of me.

There wasn’t any time to waste, I needed this escape. Imagine never seeing sunlight or the sand beneath your feet. The second they did a rush of euphoria ran through my body. The moment I was free I was elated but the moment I was clear and far away, I realized I didn’t have any control over my body. As much as I tried to take control my body was doing its own thing. The scary thing about it was not knowing where I was exactly either. So the further I got the more lost I became. I ran until my body lost all its energy. It was mainly due to not eating so I was bones. My bones began to shift on it’s own and once my human form was back I laid flat on my back.

Breathe in… Breathe out…

Breathe in… Breathe out…

My eyes began to open and I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep. Startled; I stood up and looked around. It was daylight at this point and I was still lost. I rubbed my eyes trying to adjust but something wet was on my face. I looked down at my hands and went into shock.

“Blood?” I crooked out.

Searching the rest of my body it look as if I had showered in blood. What happened? Looking around to find the source of the blood I saw nothing. Strange but okay. After using some leaves to get as much blood off me. I started walking trying to find anything or anyone who could tell me where I was. Granted, I didn’t know what my destination was either. Last night, seemed to be a blur. But what I remember is the fact that I had no control when I shifted. It must have something to do with what was injected into or maybe my wolf has finally had enough and gone into defense mode.

About a mile away my nose picked up the scent of water and didn’t think twice before heading that way and to my wonderful surprise. It was a lake. Immediately, I dived right in and just soaked this moment in. I hadn’t showered once since being captured so I knew I was dirty. On top of dirt and blood from whatever I killed. None it belonged to me so I must’ve killed a deer or something for food or whatever. I came up from the water and stroked my arms and face. The water was red around me until the currents moved it away. Brushing my hair back I opened my eyes only to find a kid staring at me. He couldn’t be older than 12.

“Was that blood?” He asked.

I hadn’t spoken in 3 years to anyone before so the thought terrified me. However, he was innocent too.

“It was red paint. Where is your mother?”

He shrugged his shoulders but not before a woman had come running and sighed in relief to the sight of him. Her eyes had met mine and she covered his eyes.

“He is a child and you are nude! What are you doing?”

The lady had told her son to run off before she stood there waiting for my answer.

“I don’t have any clothes, but I will be leaving right now.”

Swimming to the other side and pulling myself up. I drained my long black hair. This would be a perfect moment to shift but it seems like there was a disconnect between my wolf and I.

“Wait!” She called out.

I turned around and glowed her eyes at me. I did the same but she was taken aback. Probably because I had red eyes. Red eyes symbolize your rank. Alpha’s have golden eyes. Betas have blue eyes. No ranks have brown eyes. But Lycan’s have red eyes. We were the first of the kind and not very many were left in the wrong. I was the offspring of two Lycans so I had white eyes but they have a tint of blue in the sun. Which is rare.

“Your eyes… What are you doing here?”
