Becoming the Monster
A monster. Men, women and children all screamed it as they ran through the village.
Homes burned in the cool night air, providing the only light although it lit the streets as though it was morning light. If a monster was what they wanted it is what they would get. Who was she to deny them? Addalynn’s small frame walked steadily through the streets, blood covered hands out at her sides, pure rage coursing through her as she sparked fire to buildings she passed.
There was no control left in her. Her mother had always warned her of the dangers of magic. She was able to feed off of her wolf side which only made her stronger and her parents knew it could one day cause a problem. Her mother was from a very powerful line of witches that touched the waters of dark magic from time to time. It was why they had stayed with the pack instead of her mother's coven. They didn't want her to grow up with the temptations. Of course, that magic still flowed unwillingly through their bloodline.
“This is what you wanted me to be isn’t it?!” She yelled, using her powers to throw anyone aside who got in her way as she walked towards the Alphas house.
Michael. He was the one who started this after all. He is the one who pulled her from all pack activities, who called her different, and made other families worry about the safety of their children around her for the last 17 years. Then to top it all off he Executed her own parents because as he called it, their relationship was a disgrace and he never should have allowed it in the first place. A witch and a werewolf? Who would have guessed it, her parents were madly in love though. They loved her more than anything, they did everything they could to protect her from the pack.
Addalynn put none of the blame on them, she couldn’t. You can’t deny love and although it was untraditional, it was true.
Addalynn was a normal wolf pup, or so her parents thought, up until her twelfth birthday when her powers came in. Her mother was ecstatic, another witch, that was until she realized what the young girl would then have to deal with growing up inside a wolf pack. She had gotten use to the odd looks being an outsider and didn’t leave the house much. Even with permission from the Alpha to be there, she knew she would never truly be welcome. They had always planned to leave on Addalynn’s eighteenth birthday after she finished her training. Her father had been building a small cottage for them to live in. It was a good three-day trip by wolf, but she had never been. Now she wasn’t sure she would ever be able to get to the safe haven he had built for her because he was no longer there to take her and her mother to it. Neither of them were there and she would never again hear her mother singing while she danced with her father in the kitchen.
Michael stood outside of his home, ready to protect all that was left of his pack as the rest burned around it. "Beast, I command you to back down in the name of your Alpha!" His tone was strong and yet she could still hear the fear dripping from every word. She couldn't help the broken laugh that left her slightly parted lips, reaching up to wipe a stray tear that threatened to enter them. Addalynn held her arm out, summoning a scorched sword left by one of his so-called warriors. They made it too easy to get to this point.
Part of Addalynn had hoped they would have stopped her, put her out of her misery. At least the pain would have ended.
"My Alpha? You are an Alpha of nothing! Look around you!" Her voice was hoars and her body shook with rage and an overflow of magic. "You beheaded my father, the man who you claimed to be your friend. Who served beside you for years. Then you burn his mate, my mother at the stake." Michael looked almost proud of himself for a moment as he responded "How ironic am I right? She was a bloody witch after all." Addalyn glared at the man, "Right, how ironic, and now I am going to take what is left from you while you watch" her words calmer now as her other arm shot out, throwing Michaels weakened body to the side against a neighboring home, leaving him pinned against it. The magic was too strong for the weak Alpha, he was never very strong in the first place and with the link to his pack being severed in their deaths it only made matters worse for him. As each life was lost, he grew weaker. "Now sit back and enjoy the show" she gave a small, crazed smile, knowing she had actually lost it by now.
“Oh Clara! I just want to play a little, I know you love games” she called out, followed by a broken laugh. Her normally cheery green eyes now dull and dark, her dark auburn hair a tangled mess that flowed over her shoulders and down to her hips. Addalynn had lost everything, and she wasn’t stopping until she took everything from Michael. A tall brunette walked out slowly, eyeing Addalynn carefully to anticipate her next move. "Clara, go back inside!" Michael yelled to his only child. Clara ignored her father, “You don’t have to do this, if you just stop now and leave, we won’t come after you. You know your father would never want you-” but she didn’t get the rest of her sentence out as a sword flew through the air quickly, impaling the young girl. All that was heard was the screams from Michael as he watched helplessly.
Addalynn quickly stalked over to where she dropped to her knees, pulling the sword from her abdomen. “Don’t you dare tell me what my father wouldn’t have wanted!” she screamed with so much power before slitting Samantha’s throat. The next thing Addalynn knew she was on the ground, a golden wolf above her. Its jaws snapping around although the girl was unfazed as she wasn’t done. Her rage only fueled her magic, allowing her to quickly send the wolf flying off of her. She stood up, rolling her eyes at the Luna who laid against the now scattered siding of the building she had flung into. “This is all your fault! You made me do this Michael!” Addalynn’s body now quaked with silent sobs as tears flowed down her dirt and blood-stained face. She picked up the sword she had dropped near Samantha, dragging it through the dirt behind her as she walked towards the wolf who had started to stand again. Addalynn was just as quick to push her back down with her magic, arm flinging out in front of her. “Did I tell you to get up Sophia? I don’t think I did” she seethed. “Don’t worry, I will make it quick” and Addalynn did just that, ending the Lunas life as quickly as she had done to her daughter.
"I hope you're happy now. This is what you wanted after all. A monster, a beast! I suppose you were right" Addalynn screamed at Michael before flinging the same sword she used to kill his child and mate into his chest. She stood watching as the once powerful Alpha fell to the ground when her magic released him, gasping for air as blood filled his lungs and the life slowly left him.
This was it; she had truly turned into the monster they had always claimed she would be. Her hair clumped together with dried mud and bits of blood from both her and those she had killed on her rampage.
The girl's body ached from the magic that coursed through her, it was far too much for anyone. She knew it was wrong, she knew that this was not who she was, but they pushed her. They just kept pushing and the power she felt and had been holding back for so long. She couldn’t feel her wolf, she hadn’t been able to since she set the first building on fire, something she didn’t even know she could do. The magic made her wolf nervous, hell it made her nervous, but she had finally given in. She couldn’t help but hope her wolf was okay.
With nothing left of the small village she set out, dragging her feet behind her as she made her way off to who knows where, reaching up to fist the locket that hung from her neck. "I'm sorry mama, papa. I'm sorry I had to do it. They took you from me, I'm all alone. I don't know where to go or what to do... I just wish you were here..." she whispered on to herself in the dark. Her anger had left, and her small frame was only filled with sorrow and pain now.
Her wolf still silent on her when all she needed was some kind of verification of the good left in her. Her witch side leading her to nothing but darkness when it was not who she was. She knew she needed to find the cottage; it would bring her wolf back for sure. She knew it.
After hours of walking through the night the sun had started to rise as she neared the edge of clearing but before she could reach it her body gave out, causing her to collapse to the ground, everything going dark.
The amount of power she used on top of the crying and emotions that had been flowing through her was just too much. She was truly alone, no one left to care for her and how could anyone ever care for her again after everything she had just done.
What had she done...
