Chapter 1
Lorelei wakes up tired because she did not get enough sleep with all the things that are crowding her mind, keeping her awake all night. The day is gloomy and the rain started pouring, making Lorelei more tired. After dressing herself in a blue short sleeve polo and denim pants, she tied her long black hair in a bun and wears her contacts before applying light clean make up to hide her tired look.
Lorelei knew she will fall asleep in class that’s why she sat herself in the further back of the classroom to hide herself. She is now spending her lunch break in the library, working on her paper that is due today, she did not get a chance to work on it because her dad was rushed to the OR. Some complications happen and needed to be tended too.
She already graduated a long time ago, and taking her surgeon residency in Abrain Hospital, her taking some Business Management classes was to gain knowledge how to handle a business, because her dad will be passing the company to her.
She’s still angry at her dad for cheating on her mom, but that doesn’t mean that she didn’t love or care for him anymore, he is still her father and a very loving father, that’s why, even with all the anger, she takes care of him especially now that he is sick, and besides, the hospital he was staying in, was the same hospital that she was working at. Her phone rang and seeing who is calling, she quickly answered the call, it is he’s father’s best friend and VP of the company.
“Uncle? What is it?”
“Lorelei, we are in danger, the company is in danger, your stepmother, sh-she embezzle almost 300 million, we are already in contact with the police and they are searching for her right now, we are on the verge of getting bankrupt because of all the money we lost--”
Lorelei is too stunned that she can’t even utter a word to reply to what she just heard. She can hear her Uncle Antonio calling out for her name, but words won’t come out. When she heard the call end, she put her phone down on the table and let herself take all in.
“I knew that bitch is bad news, I told you Dad she was bad news, why didn’t you listen to me, now your whole life’s work is on the verge of destruction”
Lorelei said to herself and tears started flowing down her cheeks. She covered her face to not let anyone see her crying. She wants to call her mother but she knows that her mother was on her flight getting back, so she scrolled through her contacts and click on her boyfriend’s number because she knows that he is the only one she can talk to right now.
(Hey Babe what’s up? What’s wrong? Are you crying?)
“Babe, I need you right now, there has been a problem, I just need you right now, I’ll tell you everything when we met”
(Okay babe, let’s meet at your condo)
“Okay”
Before Lorelei fix her things, she called her uncle Antonio back to apologize for her attitude earlier, he says that he understands because it is very big news and very hard to handle.
“Uncle, I am very sorry for my attitude earlier, I was just too stun to speak”
(It’s okay Lorelei, I understand)
“I’ll come there as soon as possible, uncle”
(Okay Lorelei, I think it is better if you are the one who will say this to your father once he wakes up)
“I’ll be definitely the one to say this to him, to show him how right I am with that bitch”
(Okay Lorelei, I know you are still angry at your father for what he did but take it easy on him now, if he gets better, you have plenty of time to hate him and remind him that he is wrong)
“I know uncle”
(The police are here; I’ll update you soon)
“Thank you, Uncle, I’ll come there as soon as possible”
Lorelei fixes her things and drove to her condo. She is glad that she has no classes for the rest of the day or she will be distracted. From the elevator to now her walking in the hallways, nearing to her unit, she somewhat feels heavy and her heart started racing more, more than earlier after hearing the news about the company, like she will be hearing more unpleasant news. Her pace earlier was fast because she was in a hurry but now her pace is begin to slower down. The moment she holds the handle of the door, she hears moaning, moaning from both a man and woman.
Lorelei slammed the door open and was shocked to see her friend, who was staying with her for a while on top of her boyfriend. They were moaning each other’s names and cursing as they were enjoying each other. Lorelei can’t handle it anymore, all the anger and pain she’s feeling is about to burst, and the two people on the couch are the perfect ones to take all her anger out. She takes the vase to her right and throws it at the people on her couch. She doesn’t care if she hits them or not. She let out a loud laugh when the vase landed on the wall right in the middle of them and her roommate let out a loud shriek.
“What a sight. I have had my suspicions for a while now, but I am surprised to see that I was right” Lorelei said after throwing her the vase. When her boyfriend sees her, he pushes Lorelei’s friend causes for it fall on the ground, back first and quickly gets up and put on his pants.
“Babe, I can explain she came on to me--”
“Save it, we are over! I don’t want to hear any of your explanation, seeing you earlier, you were clearly enjoying it, conversations about this will be over today, I have bigger problems than this, and you two were not even worth even just a little bit of my time and as for you bitch get out of my condo, don’t make me drag you out, you to jerk, GET OUT!”
Lorelei said without even pausing or even blinking. When she sees that both of them were not making any move, she marches towards her ex-friend room, took all her stuff and throw it outside her unit. People from the other rooms are starting to get nosy of what happening but Lorelei didn’t care, all she wants is for them to be out of her sight. After throwing out her ex-friend’s stuff, Lorelei grabs her by the arm, not minding if she’s not done putting on her clothes and throw her hard outside of the door.
“Babe, please I love you---”
“Shut up, what you have for me is not love because if you love me, you will not fuck another woman, you’re shameless, GET OUT OF MY SIGHT NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT ME TO PUNCH YOU, YOU KNOW HOW HARD I CAN PUNCH RIGHT!”
Lorelei watch as his ex-boyfriend walks out of her dorm, the moment he exited, she shut her door, hard. She leans against the door and let out the tears she’s been holding back since earlier. She heard her phone ring. She reaches for it in her pocket and saw that it was her mom, Loren, she answers it quickly and vent out all her troubles and pain.
(Hello Princess, I just arrive home, how’s your day?) Lorelei’s mom said on the other line.
“Mom” Lorelei call out for her mom sobbing.
(Princess what’s wrong? Why are you crying?)
“Mom, I need you right now, I’m going there, I don’t want to be here”
(Okay baby, I’ll be waiting for you, call me again if you are here already)
Lorelei turned off the call and called Dr. Kristopher to inform him that there has been an emergency and if it is okay that she can’t come to their meeting this evening, Dr. Kristopher said it is okay and they can talk tomorrow. After the call, she packed up some clothes and drove to Mom’s house, outside of town. When she arrived, her mother was already waiting at the door for her with an umbrella because it started raining hard. When she got out of the car, her tears started pouring on her cheeks once again, like the rain falling down on her skin.
