Introduction

Aeyr hailed from Khaos, the Dragon King. He and his Brethren and Sisters lived in the Realm of Fotiá beneath Khaos' rule. But the King of the Dragons was unkind. He ruled with brutality and unfairness. So when Aeyr, Son of the King, split from Fotiá he took with him his followers. (Including his best friend and most loyal Mikhai Tyrhael.)

His two hundred followers travelled with him to search for new lands, a place to settle and build a Kingdom of his own. After all..Aeyr SHOULD be King. Many of the Dragons whispered of it but they feared the reaction of their King, Khaos.

They traveled for many months, evading the brutality of the mortals who feared them and the other races who wished to use them for their scales, teeth and potent blood. Until finally they came upon a beautiful island that contained three volcanoes. The two smaller ones sat upon the Southwestern and Southeastern parts of the land, the biggest of the three sat upon the Northern territory. It was tropical and held lakes and rivers, many valleys and hills. It was bountiful with wildlife, fruit and exotic foliage. Aeyr, decided to make it his Kingdom.

After those many months of travelling and resting, Aeyr made camp a top a large cliff overlooking the land. Aeyr stepped over towards a spring and took a drink from it before turning to face his followers. Out of the two hundred, he had only a few whom he trusted WHOLE heartedly. The twins Aegys and Arye, the siblings Mei and Misoh, and then his best friend and most loyal, Mikhai. He looked towards them with guidance. And they in turn looked to him for guidance.

"This land is..bountiful." Mei spoke in his mind, the white dragon arched her back slightly as she turned to look over their discovery. Her voice was soft and lyrical. A scoff was heard and Aeyr looked at Arye who had orange and sapphire scales. She turned her head to look at Mei.

"Bountiful yes. In many ways. I smell Elven blood." She sneered. "If we do not destroy them, they will surely seek to use us for medicines and potions. Armor. We must seek them out and act quickly."

Aeyr glared at her.

"Watch it Arye.. you're starting to sound like my father..I will not rule the way he did. These..elves will be dealt with in my way. We will not go slaughter them. We will give them a choice..stay or leave. Stay, and I will rule. Or they can abandon their lands and start fresh somewhere else."

"Do you really think they will just let you rule them?" Aegys, Ayre's twin asked.

"They won't have a choice in the matter." Aeyr murmured with his deep voice.

There was a long silence after his words. All of his followers, looking to him. They expected more from him than that simple answer. He sighed and stood up straight.

"I promised a safe haven, free from the brutality of my father and I shall do anything to deliver it. For you. For all of us. This land..it will be ours. It IS ours. Get some rest. Tomorrow I will fly over the island and take a look at it's inhabitants…."

The next morning, Aeyr flew over that large strip of tropical land that was barely connected to the mainland. He in fact saw many small villages and encampments. Ayre had been right about that. He scented Elven blood. And he knew they WOULD seek to use them for whatever they could. Dragon's, though dangerous, were highly sought after.

He was flying near the largest volcano when he caught a scent on the wind. The golden and white dragon swooped down to land upon a cliff, looking upon the figure down below dressed in hunting gear. She wore a bow and quiver with a full set of arrows and a sword at her side but her face was cloaked by a hood. Curious, Aeyr crept closer, sending small rocks toppling down from the cliff side. The figure turned, hood flying back to reveal silvery tresses and the brightest blues eyes he'd ever witnessed. So in awe, he had not heard the whistle of the arrow until it was too late and struck him in the leg. The woman gasped and aimed again, at his eye. Aeyr quickly swooped down below until he landed in front of her.

"You would harm me out of fear? Or hate. It is usually the latter with Elven creatures such as you. Aeyr spoke in her mind. His voice was deep and soothing. She paused, lashes fluttering up at him.

"Do you intend to eat me Dragon?" She demanded.

"Dragon is not my name. It is Aeyr." He corrected her proudly. He straightened, his chest puffing out.

"Do you intend to eat me Aeyr?" She replied with a stiff but shaky tone, her arrow was still aimed up at him.

The dragon canted his head as he looked at her with his pale gold and amber eyes. She was beyond beautiful and he realized the scent he had been following was hers. A bloodscent. The scent of a salty ocean and of sunshine. Spices. Wood and floral. She stood tall and straight but not quite without fear. Immediately he would erase that fear. He would change. For her. Only once. He could never return to his true form. He did not hesitate. It was instinct. It was as if his body KNEW what he needed. He began shrinking, a haze of magic surrounding him as he revealed himself to her as a tall and powerful Elven male. Beautiful and dark, still with those intense yellow and gold hues. He heard the hitch of her breath as she raised the bow once more and he stepped towards her.

"How did you.."

"I cannot return to that form." He spoke softly, outloud this time but still with that same deep voice. He took another step.

"And if I can be with you I shall never wish to return." He spoke without pause. Her bow lowered. She watched him, her head shaking slightly.

"Be with me.." She trailed off. Her gaze shifted as if she were searching for something before returning that gaze towards the Elven male that now stood before her. He had been a dragon. How had he shifted into this form?

"I am Lys. Daughter of the Chief of our Clan. You have found yourself on our Goddesses land. The Goddess Avahni. She provides us all we should need. Why should I need you Aeyr?" He grew closer and she tipped her head up to look at him. So tall and powerful. She was..in awe. She wanted to shake this feeling. Why couldn't she? His hand came out and cupped her face gently and she gasped, her intense blue hues darkening.

"Because your heart is pounding out of your chest and my very soul calls to you. Can you not feel it?" He asked her. She nodded, looking confused. A frown marred her face. Her skin was kissed by the sun but there was a splatter of freckles that stood out on her cheeks and nose.

"Accept me as your mate Lys."

"Avahni will choose MY mate." She said with anger as she tilted her head up. But that anger was rapidly fading as his face drew towards hers and she found herself doing the same.

"I think.. this Goddess of yours, Avahni..she has chosen your mate already.." He spoke, smirking just before their lips met...
