"This was a really good read and I am glad I stuck with it all the way. I love the way it showed the development of the characters through all their trials, especially Toby. If I had one suggestion it would be that it could have had a bit more detail about how Toby ends up with Natasha at the end (maybe an extra chapter focussed on that). It just seemed a bit abrupt as an ending. But this was really an excellent story and thanks to the author for all the hard work."

"RACoole has a good style of writing for his first book. He describes his characters well and tells a good story. The main character is Toby and a sweeter person has yet to be found. He has a crush which is not reciprocated by his best friend's twin sister Natasha. His best friend Andrew and his girlfriend Emma are also endearing characters. The story follows the lives of these four characters and other characters as life progresses. It is set in the late 1960's as young people first experience new freedoms that became available during that period. All up well worth the read!"

The author's writing style made each character unique. I enjoyed the humor that was mixed in making it relatable but not too serious. The storyline was interesting and kept me wanting more. "This was an absolutely enthralling erotic love story with concise descriptives and well paced. Perhaps a more extensive introduction to some of the main characters such as Andrew, the best friend of Toby, and Emma, Andrew's girlfriend would be an interesting addition or even a separate novel. I found it to be a fun read. "

"I love this story and the characters in it, especially dear Toby who is a kind of Everyman hero for the reader - this reader anyway - to identify with. I was already familiar with RACoole’s writing as this is a sequel to his story about the younger lives of his characters and their families and I am delighted to be able to read their further exploits as young adults, and compare them to my own at the same age in the same period, the late sixties. RACoole’s writing style is deceptively simple, allowing the reader to float along with his charming escapist story. I’ve only just started reading ‘Best Friends & Lovers’, so I’ll finish this review later. And now…I’ve finished this remarkable book, all 39 chapters of it, although it’s far too short, I could have happily stayed with Andrew, Emma, Toby and the rest for much longer. However, it’s fair to say that the author has resolved the various story arcs very satisfactorily. If we are to be completely honest, there are many ‘too good to be true’ moments in the story, but that’s not really a criticism, as it’s so good to be able to relive one’s formative years with a happy glow rather than remember the growing pains, the angst, the disappointment that so often occurred. I recommend this story to anyone who was ever young and in love."

"I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the first 16 chapters - the odd typo here and there but not an issue at all. I expected more eroticism in the writing but in reality there's probably more romance and love - which is absolutely fine. I have to say the characters all behave rather differently from my school / university days - can't help but be hugely envious of how these young people interact with each other. But the story moves at a good pace and there is a lot of variety to maintain one's interest, so keep up the good work, R.A. Coole! "
