Chapter 1
MILLIE
His eyes pierce mine with a fire that would threaten to burn the whole world down.
I feel like my heart is beating a thousand times per minute.
One step back.
"Millie, are you okay?"
Another step back.
"Millie."
I turn around and run as fast as my feet can. I get in my car and step on the gears, leaving nothing but a cloud of dust behind me. A cloud that matches my inner turmoil.
Entering my bedroom, i slum the door shut and lean my back against it. My phone keeps ringing, and i know for a fact that it's Taylor even without checking.
I can't breathe.
I start to hyperventilate.
"I can't.."
I slide down against the door, stretching my lets and placing my hands on the left side of my chest. My vision becomes blurry. So many emotions overwhelm me.
"I can't breathe...." And then everything goes black.

My eyes slowly peel open and i find myself in the same position on the floor. I just passed out, but...
Everything starts to rush back in. That man, Taylor, said his name is Bishop King, Logan's father. That man is the same person who was in the car that intentionally almost ran over Billy. If he's Logan's father, then Logan must know about it.
No, no. He wouldn't. If he did, my dad would have known, he would have used it to separate us. But why didn't he tell me about Logan's father being responsible?
I need to find out.
I get to my feet and walk out of the door.
Nile, the slimey bastard, has the nerve to smirk at me. He knows i feel anger and betrayal towards the Lords, so i can't out him. He knows what kind of corner i'm in.
"Millie, if it isn't nice to see you."
I side eye him.
"Where is my father."
"In his office."
I move past him and go to papa's office. I enter without knocking and his head lifts, he places his pen down and leans back in his chair, linking his fingers together.
"Did you know that Logan's father was the man who had Billy killed?"
His face remains the same, cold and unblinking.
"I asked you a question."
"Sit down." He says calmy.
"No."
"Very well. Yes, i knew this entire time."
"Why didn't you tell me!" I yell.
"Why? Would it have changed anything?"
"Yes! I wouldn't have gotten more involved with those people. Do you know how i feel right now? Like i betrayed my brother."
All the hurt comes out flowing in dangerous waves. I let it all out since the wedding.
"You don't care about me or my happiness. All you care about is power and vengeance."
"That is not true, Millie. I love my family, i love you."
"You're a fucking liar! If you hadn't loved power more than us, my brother would still be aliv-"
Before i can finish my sentence, he abruptly stands from his seat and bangs his fists on the desk, making me flinch.
"Now, watch that mouth of yours, little girl. I will not allow you to blame me for my son's death. Billion was everything to me, and that is why all those people will suffer the same way i did when i lost him."
There it is. The reason why he's killing heirs.
I suck in a deep breath and compose myself. Then i turn around and leave without a single word.

Three missed calls from Suzie and seven from Taylor. I know she told Suzie what happened two days ago. I honestly hold nothing against Taylor, but i just can't with Suzie. She's one of them. She could have helped me, but she didn't, just like she didn't tell me about Logan and Mia back then. She's loyal to the Lords and follows them blindly.
I click Taylor's number and dial. She picks up.
"Millie? Thank goodness, you really had me worried.
"I'm sorry, i needed some air.
"Yeah, i noticed. What happened back there?"
"I just wasn't feeling too well."
There's silence on the other end for a few seconds. I check to see if she hung up, but the line is still through.
"Millie," she finally speaks. "You know you can trust me, right?"
She's in love with Zayn.
She owes him her loyalty, and his loyalty is to the Lords. It's all just a cycle that goes back to Logan.
I shake my head to push the voices away.
"I know."
"No, you don't. You think I'll tell Zayn."
Well....
"Look, before being Zayn's fiancée, I'm your friend. Hey, let's meet up for coffee so that we can talk in person?"
"I-"
"Millie," she cuts me off. "Please."
"Okay."
* * *
"What the hell is she doing here?" I pause when i see Suzie seated next to Taylor. Taylor stands.
"Millie, please. Just give her a chance, okay."
"No. I don't want to see or talk to her, Taylor. Tell her to leave or i will."
I don't even meet her eyes despite feeling the weight of her stare on my face.
"It's fine, Taylor. I'll leave." She stands and grabs her purse, when she's at my side, she pauses.
"I love you, Millie. I'm sorry that you feel this way towards me, i just wish you could tell me why."
I scoff and roll my eyes. The nerve of this girl.
Then she continues on her way and leaves the café.
"Millie..." Taylor gestures towards the door.
"I don't want to talk about it." I say as i take a seat.
"Okay," she whispers. "How are you?"
"Better."
She nods as i meet her eyes.
"Look, Millie, anything you tell me in confidence, it will not leave this table. I know i tell Zayn everything, but i would never share your secrets. Those guys are loyal to each other, and if we're doing this, we also have to be loyal to each other."
I see the honest and sincerity in her eyes.
I sigh. What do i have to lose anyway? Everyone in the secret society knows what happened to my brother they don't know is how it all happened.
"The day my brother died. I saw his father." My tongue refuses to mention Logan's name out loud.
"Bishop King?"
"Yes." I explain everything to her from start to finsh. Taylor might not know this because she's also new to the circle.
"Oh, Millie. That explains all those nightmares.
"If i hadn't allowed him to leave the house..."
"It's not your fault." She shakes her head. "It isn't. These people are powerful, Millie, they would have found a way to get to your brother anyway."
I nod. At this point, i don't have any more tears to shed.
"Look, i think you and Suzie should talk. No, no, no." She says when i start to shake my head. "I don't know why you're pushing her away, but i think if you guys have a conversation, you can see eye to eye on whatever this is."
I lean forward across the table.
"I, hate her. I hate her as much i hate the Lords." I say coldly. "I will never, forgive all of them."
Taylor must see the hatred in my eyes because she pulls back and shakes her head.
"I hope that hate doesn't consume you, Millie."
