Breakfast
Breakfast elegy
Early morning dew, dancing on the lawn
The smoky smell of autumn in the air
Somnolent, sleepy, cosy
Listening to the quiet clinking of busy
Stretching sinews, rising from my cherished bed
Taunted and tempted by promise
The first glorious emanation
That look of shining magnificence
That moment…
The elemental opening of the mouth
To taste, to savour to relish
Hot on the palate, ruminate, and digest
In conclusion I’ve broken my fast.
