Chapter 1

The one born of two worlds.

Unloved and unwanted, he shall be.

For that is our greatest sin of all. Harming our saviour.

He shall rise and battle the darkness.

Shall he win or shall he die.

All rests upon his heart.

Our hero.

“Once upon a time in a wonderful land filled with flowers of every colour and beautiful people with shining silver hair, and where everyone was happy and kind to one another, there lived a little boy - a beautiful boy with shining silver hair, a little grin that could melt your heart and eyes as blue as the sky. But to the people of the land this boy was not considered one of them. They said he was a monster, an abomination that should have never been born. The reason why? Well, it was because he was a half blood. Half elven, half human: evident by his blue eyes, very different from every other elf who had green eyes. His ears, were shaped like a human’s, with no point; he was different. Cast aside and hated by all in the land the boy grew, and with each year his grin grew dimmer.

If only the elves knew the truth, if they knew that little boy they hated would one day be the one they needed in order to survive the darkness. The prophecy had been passed down for generations, almost forgotten by most of the people for it had been over a thousand years since it was predicted, very few remembered it. Until the darkness started its descent and everyone knew that the prophecy had come true.’

Thus spoke the voice of the frail female elder.

As she looked down at all the children sitting around her she couldn’t help but smile as she thought. None of these precious children would be alive today if it wasn’t for him.

The half-blood.

Kai.

“He was born on the coldest day in all of Dryadalis history, some would say when he was a child that this was the forest God, Vita’s, punishment for creating a half-blood child. Kai was born from love. He was born from the love between my only daughter and a handsome and kind human soldier. How could they be punished for falling in love and creating a child from that love? No God would punish someone for falling in love, but there were many foolish people who did believe that.” The gentle voice of The Elder turned hard and stern the more she talked. The children sat around her, amused, as she muttered curse words about those ‘idiotic foolish people,’ ‘deserve to be slapped’ and a few other choice words that should not be said in front of young children.

“Now children let us head to the seeing pool.” The children stood and followed the elder like little ducklings accompanying their mother.

“Come on. Stand around it, don’t be shy,” said the gentle voice of The Elder as she waved the children closer towards the seeing pool. “Now children, who knows what the seeing pool is?” Looking around at all the children she saw most of the hands raised , and excited faces. “ Hmmm how about you.” Pointing towards the young girl at the back of the group, the only one who didn’t have her hand raised.

“Umm, it-tt’s a way to see-e the storr-y from the poin-tt of view of-ff some else,” Stuttered the young girl as her eyes stayed pointed down at the floor, her silver hair that hung around her shoulders creating a curtain around her face, shielding her from the stares of the other children around her.

“Yes, that is right, but it is so much more. If a person is willing they can supply the seeing pool with their own memories, to allow others to see what they experienced and what they are thinking. It shows you the story from their point of view. Now let’s get a bit closer to the seeing pool, come on a little closer.” Smiling the female elder held her hand out to the little girl who shyly placed her small hand within the wrinkled and frail hand of her respected village elder.

“Now let us witness the beginning of the story of Kai, the half-blood hero.” The elder along with all the children turned to the seeing pool as the water glowed and spun, creating an image of a young boy with shining silver hair and crystal-blue eyes.

Here is the beginning of his story.
