Chapter 1: The SongBird
I gaze at her from the outside of her house. Watching. Waiting. For my chance, to finally make my songbird min-
My laptop is ripped away from me by my Best friend Kelsie, I open my mouth to say something to her about taking my laptop while i was working but she beats me to it; “Brianna We are going out Tonight and you will not argue.” I go to reach for my laptop but she just raises it higher, with a stubborn motherly look on her face. I groan and give her a face that says , ‘i really don’t fucking want to’ “Kels, you know i’m working right now. And plus I barely do anything when we go out. Well besides drink.” Kelsie groans at me in response and walks towards my bathroom. She turns the light on and sets my laptop down, I go to get up and take it back but before I can she comes out with my makeup bag, and my outfit. I stare at her like she's crazy. She stares back at me expectantly. I groan again and get up walking to her.
Kelsie and I have been best friends since the 5th grade; we went through middle school, high school and even college together. But we couldn't have been more different, she was outgoing and had the ability to be a party girl. Whereas, I was a Creative, anxious, Bookworm, Ambivert that only had a handful of people that I would actually consider talking to. But she always managed to drag me out of my comfort zone, and into the light.
We both sat down on the floor in front of my bed and started getting ready, as she was putting the finishing touches on her eyeliner, she said:
"Okay, so here's the plan. We'll go to the Club, I'll find some dude or chick, and I'll hook up with them, and then you'll get laid or drunk. Or both."
I roll my eyes, she knows full well I won't do that.
She finishes her eyeliner and looks at me. "Look, Bri. I'm trying to help you. You're always cooped up in your room, you need a good fucking and to go out and dance a bit. Get that stress off your shoulders. It's not healthy to always be sitting in front of your laptop, typing away."
I look at her and sigh. She's right. Maybe I should go out, have a few drinks, meet some guy, and take him home. Fuck him. That's a good idea, right?
I sigh, again. I'll see what happens, I guess. "Fine. But you know I'm not the kind of girl who just goes out and fucks any guy I see, Kels."
Kelsie's face lights up with joy and she gets up, helping me up with her. "I know, I know. You're not that kind of person. But maybe tonight you'll find the right guy?"
She says it in a playful tone, knowing full well that I'm not looking for the 'right guy' and that I'll probably just get a little tipsy and go home.
We finish getting ready, and Kelsie takes the liberty to pick out a cute yet slutty outfit for me.
A tight black dress with a slit down the middle and a low-cut back. It hugs my body perfectly, showing off my curves. My hair is down and Curled, and my makeup is Cool toned and smoky, with a cool dark red lip.
Kelsie and I leave, taking her car and heading towards the club.
When we arrive, the music is loud and the place is packed. Kelsie immediately heads for the bar, getting a drink. I follow her and order a shot of Vodka.
I take the shot and look around. The lights are dim, but there's enough light that I can see the people around me.
I spot a few hot guys and girls, but they're all either taken or not my type.
I order another shot and Kelsie orders a Sex on the Beach. I turn around and scan the room. There's a tall man leaning against the wall, a drink in hand. He's wearing a suit and has an air of mystery about him. I stare at him for a second, taking in his features. He has a sharp jawline, high cheekbones, and a straight nose. His hair is a dark brown, almost black, and slicked back. He has a 5 o'clock shadow, but he still looks handsome.
Kelsie comes over, handing me a drink. "Hey, B. Check out that guy. He's cute."
I smile, and take a sip of my drink, My eyes never leave him. "Yeah, he's pretty handsome."
Kelsie leans over, whispering in my ear. "You should go talk to him."
I turn to her, shaking my head. "No way. He's probably taken anyway."
She scoffs. "You don't know that. Just go talk to him."
I sigh and take another sip of my drink, staring at the man.
Kelsie elbows me. "Go. Now. If he's an ass, then we'll leave."
I shake my head, but Kelsie drags me over to the man. I stumble a bit, but regain my composure.
He looks at me and smiles, flashing perfect white teeth.
"Well hello there." He says, his voice deep and smooth.
I swallow the lump in my throat and force a smile. I look up at the man and realization washes over me, aw fuck, Its Sebastian. My brothers Bestfriend since forever. I look away and try to make up some sort of excuse as to why I can't talk to him. But it's not like I could just walk away. My brother would find out and then I'd be dead.
"Hey, Seb."
He nods his head, his smile never leaving his lips as his eyes scan the world around us with caution.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
He shrugs. "I was with some business associates."
His eyes land back on me, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "So, what are you doing here?"
I bite my bottom lip. Fuck. "Just out with a friend. You know, getting a drink, dancing.."
I trail off, not knowing what else to say.
He chuckles, his voice low. "Yeah, I can see that."
He smirks. "You're not the kind of girl who usually hangs around here."
My brows furrow. How would he know that?
"Oh, really? And what kind of girl is that?" I ask, slightly annoyed. I haven't seen Sebastian since my Birthday back in February when he came to my party with my brother.
He laughs, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine. "The innocent kind. You're not the typical club girl."
I cross my arms over my chest, my brows furrowing further. If only he knew what I read and Write. I narrowed my eyes at him and raised an eyebrow, usually I would be intimidated but I got liquid courage. "And how do you know that? You don't even know me."
Sebastian looks down at me, his eyes piercing mine. "You're right, I don't. But I know my fair share of club girls, and you're definitely not one."
I roll my eyes and scoff. "Maybe I am."
I don't know why I'm getting defensive. Why do I care if he thinks I'm a club girl?
He chuckles, his deep voice reverberating through the room. "Maybe you are, but something tells me that you're not."
He steps closer to me, his body almost touching mine. His cologne fills my nose, and I have to stop myself from inhaling deeply. It's a spicy scent, with a hint of vanilla. Dude what is wrong with you, This is Anthony’s Best friend. Get a Grip Woman.
"So, tell me. What brings you here, tonight?" He asks.
I look up at him, his eyes locked on mine.
"Uh well- Kelsie dragged me here saying she needed to get a drink and get laid, and then she said I should do the same"
Sebastian laughs, his laughter quickly turning into a snort. "Here let me buy you a drink."
"It's not like I can't find one" I snap, crossing my arms over my chest and looking up at him. He looks over at me with a smile on his face. "I know you can."
"Fine" I reluctantly let him buy me a drink. I wanted to drink anyway, and I wouldn't begrudge my brothers best friend a drink. He orders the drink and he hands it to me. I take a long swig of the drink, letting it slide down my throat. I feel the welcoming and comforting burn of the Alcohol, causing me to smile.
I look up at Sebastian and his eyes are focused on my lips, his gaze devouring me. Oh my god. He's so gorgeous. But let's be honest here when wasn’t he gorgeous.
Suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder and Sebastian's gaze turns into one of annoyance.
I roll my eyes and look up at the girl standing in front of me, her long, blond hair falling over her shoulders. Her lips are painted a Bright obnoxious Pink, and she is wearing a black dress that barely covers her ass and matches her lips. Her stockings are low cut and she is wearing a pair of black heels.
I realize that Sebastian is staring at her as well and I feel a hand on my arm, pressing down and stopping me from walking away.
I take a step back from her and look up at Sebastian. "Thanks for the drink Sebastian." I say with annoyance in my voice.
"Sure. Bye Brianna." Sebastian says, while looking at her. I give him a smug little smile.
I stare at Sebastian, waiting for him to reply, but he doesn't. He just walks away and doesn't look back. I wasn't sure if I should be bothered by him, or feel thankful that he was being polite.
I look over at Kelsie who is now speaking to some guy in the corner. I sigh and take a Swig of my drink. It feels so good to feel the burn.
After about an hour of mingling and drinking, I decide it's time to go home. "Kelsie. It's been a long night, and we should get going."
She turns to me and pouts. "Noooooo, we haven't even gotten drunk yet."
"Well, you have. You're obviously a lot more drunk than I am. Now, let's go."
"But—"
I give her a look. "Now, Kels."
She sighs. "Fine." I take her by the arm and lead her out of the bar, and towards my car. We get in and I drive home, listening to music the whole time.
When we arrive, I park my car and head inside. I kick off my shoes and hang my keys on the hook. Kelsie comes in and kicks off her shoes, as well.
"Hey, Brianna?"
"Yes, Kels?"
"You're an amazing writer."
I roll my eyes and try to help her to my bedroom, so she can sleep off the alcohol. "I'm not, Kels. You're drunk."
"I'm not THAT drunk. Now, don't argue. You're a great writer."
I sigh and help her into bed, pulling the covers up over her. She looks at me and smiles. "I love you, B."
I smile back. "I love you, too."
I turn the light off and leave the room, closing the door behind me. I head down the hall to My office that has an extremely comfortable couch. and maybe an Entire library.
I sit down and open my laptop, starting to write.
As the words come pouring out, I feel my stress melting away.
I hear footsteps, and I turn around to see Anthony. "What are you doing Here?" I ask.
"Well, I thought I would stop by and check on my little sister." I sigh. "I'm fine. I was just working."
"Working on what?"
I hesitate, before answering. "Just another novel."
Anthony shakes his head. "You need to stop working so much, sis. You're going to work yourself to death."
I roll my eyes and scoff. "You know Kelsie already dragged me out of here tonight, I don't need you doing it as well."
"And?"
"And, I don't need to stop working. If I did, I wouldn't be able to pay rent. Besides, you're one to talk. You work even more than I do."
Anthony shakes his head. "That's because I have responsibilities, sis."
I groan. "Oh, please. Don't even start with that shit. We both know you just want to be as far away from Mom as possible."
"Yeah, well. At least I'm not working myself to death. Seriously, B. You need to take a break."
"I'm fine. I've got it all under control."
"Do you really?"
I sigh. "Yes. Now, will you please leave me alone so I can finish this chapter?"
"Alright, alright. I'm leaving."
"Good." I am about to go back to writing but I just.... "Hey Ant?"
"Yes?"
I sit back in my chair, and turn to look at him. "I saw Sebastian tonight."
"You did?"
"Yes. And he bought me a drink."
Anthony's eyes widen. "What?! Did he do anything to you?"
"No. Nothing like that. You really think your best friend since like forever would get involved with your little sister. Come on now."
"Brianna, Sebastian's not the kind of guy you fuck around with."
"And why not?"
"He's not the settling down type."
"And why would I settle down with him?" I give him a look that says 'really, him'.
"Look, Brianna. Just stay away from him. He's not the guy for you."
"Why are you so concerned about this? It's not like he's going to sweep me off my feet and marry me."
Anthony sighs. "Just trust me on this, okay?"
"Whatever. Now, are you going to leave or not?"
Anthony groans. "Fine, I'm leaving."
He turns and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.
