Meet Mac
Mia, Amelia May Collins, was a young girl who thought she knew how the world worked. Ha, just kidding! My name is Amelia May Collins, Mia for short. I’m 17 years old, with short purple, yes I said purple, hair. I dyed it that color at the beginning of my senior year of high school. I like the color, it’s not bright purple, it’s a darker color purple, and it matches my eyes. My eyes are different from other kids, instead of blue, green or brown, mine are dark purple, so dark they are almost black, but the purple shows really clearly with my new hair. I live with my parents, John my dad, and Kay my mother. My little brother Noah is 15 years old, he has short brown hair and dark green eyes. All the girls love him, he’s the big time footballer and baseball player. Unfortunately, nobody notices me and I like it that way. I’m kind of the nerdy girl, smarter than most, including my jock brother, and I plan on getting a scholarship to a good school for my grades.
“Milly, it’s time to get going, hurry down and eat your breakfast! You’ll be late!” “Mother, I told you I don’t like that name. Why do you still insist on it?” My mother just laughs, “it was my grandmothers name Milly, you have her name, I will never change it.” I just rolled my eyes and made my way to the table, “Good morning dad,” I greeted as I sat down to eat. I ate my breakfast, said goodbye and walked to 2 miles to school. I waved as I spotted my best friend Apryl. “Hey,” I greeted as I got close enough. “Hey Mia! Did you hear about the 2 new kids that started today?” “I didn’t even know that we were expecting anyone new. It’s already halfway through first semester.” “Yeah neither did anyone else, apparently they just moved here from Nevada.” Just then the first bell rang telling us we needed to get to our lockers and get to homeroom before we were late. As I made my way to my homeroom I noticed a boy I hadn’t seen before hanging by the door talking to the teacher. He was the most gorgeous boy, cropped brown hair, golden eyes like none I had ever seen before. And the most crafted face I had ever seen. He looked like a god standing there with our homeroom teacher.
Later as I was sat in my second period biology class, in walked the god of a boy I had seen earlier. He walked right in and sat at my work station. Inside I was floored that he would sit there, I had been alone all semester so far, but outwardly I wouldn’t show it. “Hey, my name is Mac, I’m new here. This seat isn’t taken is it?” He looked at me like he was expecting me to answer, coming to my senses I quickly answered his question. “I’m Amelia, no it’s not taken. And you must be new if you are sitting here. Noone else has ever even dared to.” As I was talking he just stared at me, “great,” I thought, “another person freaked by my eyes. I should have just wore the colored contacts I had passed up this morning.” He seemed to come back from his thoughts as he put his hand out to shake, “It’s nice to meet you Amelia. I hope we get a few other classes together too.” I shook his hand slowly, waiting for him to pull back and choose another seat, but he didn’t. The rest of the first half of my day was spent sitting and wondering why on earth he would choose to sit with the weird girl with the odd eyes? But really what did it matter, he wouldn’t be sitting there long, he would become popular and let me be just like everyone else. Don’t get me wrong, no one was ever really mean to me, they didn’t call me names or hit me or anything, they just ignored me.
The rest of my day whizzed by and before I knew it the last bell had rang and I was free to leave. I walked the short walk home and went straight to my room. I couldn’t get the boy with the golden eyes out of my head. Try as I might I could not get my homework finished, and that never happened to me. “Ugh,” I groaned out sitting back on my bed. Why can’t I get him out of my head? I somehow managed to get my homework finished after supper, and proceeded with getting my clothes ready for the next day, then taking a shower. As I laid my head on my pillow I smiled one last time, and drifted off to sleep seeing a beautiful pair of golden eyes looking at me as he shook my hand.
