Todd could not believe beta training was this hard. When he left home he was so sure he was a good fighter but gosh he had sucked at training today. He just needed a pick me up. It was a good thing his brother was in Alpha training a year ahead of him. It would be good to talk to him and get some pointers. Running to his brothers room in the Alpha suites to get some pointers seemed like a good idea. So off he went from the training grounds to his room. He hoped Alex was having a better day than him. The strength training they had done today was brutal. First the exercise themselves. Weight training of all things. Then the field crawls in human form. Then in wolf form. Then they had put them through the obstacle course which had some parts you could only complete in wolf form. When would a wolf need all that. They were sent for a light lunch and a 30 minute break. Followed by the hand to hand combat. The man he had to fight was top notch. All his usual moves had been anticipated and countered. Todd continued his mussing as he walked into his brother's rooms. Until the shock of what he saw stopped him. There was a naked girl in his brother's room and Alex half naked making out. "What kind of a wolf are you?" His brother mindlinked him. "Shut door on your way out"
As he ran back down the stairs. He wondered how he had not heard the sounds or voices. How he had not smelt the pheromones? Had he been so lost in his own head? This was not turning out how he had imagined. It seemed even his sense of awareness was off. If this was going to happen every time he needed or wanted to talk to his brother, he was gonna be very lonely. Promises of help and companionship, friendship and togetherness were going up in smoke. Todd had imagined that as he was to his brother's beta they would lean on each other. He could hear footsteps from around the corner. So hiis hearing was fine. Andrew was just turning the corner. "Hey man, you alright" he asked. Todd looked up to Andrew and replied " Yeh man just shock." Andrew looked at him askew "What?"
"Nah, chill man it's nothing " Todd replied with a shake of his head.
"Talk dude, I ain't got all day" But Todd just stood there. How would he begin to explain to someone in Alpha training how he was not doing well in Beta training and he really didn't know Andrew that well. This guy had to be an Alpha. He alluded the aura of an Alpha. Which was surprising as only inducted alphas would have an Alphas aura. Alphas in training alluded power and the confidence. Where would he start and how would he be perceived. All the times he had heard his mother tell him to never let down his brother ran through his head. Would telling and discussing his shortcomings be letting him down? Would him talking about what had just happened be letting him down? Heck yeah it would. Yeah maybe the part of what he had just seen. After all as leaders they were told to wait for their goddess given mate. Mating was this craved thing. It was purported to be the best thing since sliced bread . You get tingles when you touch and you only see them, love them, want them and being with them. Making love with them was supposed to be the best experience in the world. Your mate completes you as your other half. You feel complete and our baser need as a wolf that constant thirst for hunting and sex is sated. (I know right but that's what we are told.). It sometimes felt like a folktale. A seriously f*****d up story made to keep us from rutting like the animals we are. "You gonna say something man?" Andrew asked, "If not I know a cozy bar in human territory. Let's blow this joint.". It took me by surprise that this Alpha was happy for me to tag along with him. You see in our world Alphas were selective of their inner circle. Alphas were territorial, secretive, suspicious and demanding. They liked to keep to their cliques. Yes their own betas, gammas and deltas. "You sure man?" I asked in total suprise. "You want me to go with you for real real?". "Don't make me ask you again, you in or out?" I sniffed the air and as I tasted it on my tongue I was surprised to feel the sincerity in his request. Oh yeah as an Alpha's son I had a gift and my gift was that I could tell a human or supernatural intentions by tasting the air. No it is not gross. This was one awesome gift and I had not told anyone about it not ever. It had saved me a couple of time. No that's not right it was my saving grace. So I answered "Yeah I'll come.". Andrew flicks his keys in his hand and for a minute his eyes glazed over. I immediately knew he had mindlinked someone. Yes mindlink. To mindlink is to talk into someones mind. They hear you as clearly as if you are standing infront of them speaking. As we got to his jeep I could make out these three guys jockeying around. But my gaze was on this jeep. The latest jeep wrangler to hit the street. I had only seen it in a magazine. I mean who was this dude? I took a good look at him. He was tall, dark with short cropped blonde hair. His face not as hardened but looked chiseled. His features looked kind of delicate. Shit. Did I just think all that? My sister had definitely rubbed off me. "Boys this is......." he hesitated So I filled in "Todd" giving him my hand to shake. "Yeah a stray I picked up he looked like he could use a drink." he laughed and his boys joined in. " I'm Andrew, Titus, Reginald and Collin." As he made the introductions he pointed to each of the guys in turn. I recognized the other three especially Titus he was the one who had just hanged me my ass in Beta training. Who were these guys? "Stray you say? " the one named Titus asked giving me a good look . "Hey I know you. We were paired together at training. Dude you got moves. I have been here a year and I can honestly say beside these jokers you were a good workout." Andrew's brow went up. And a faint smile appeared on his face. "Titus did Todd give you a run for your money? Did the Mighty Titus break out a sweat today?" "Yeah man I had to bring my A game today." Titus replied with a serious face. "How come we haven't been paired up with you before?". I shook my head and my right arm went in to scratch my hair. "Well guys I got in yesterday. Today was my first day." The three of them froze only Andrew seemed unfazed. I didn't know what the big deal was. Today had sucked eggs. My whole body ached and my head was messed up by what I had just seen in my brother's room. So to break the tension I asked. "We gonna go or...? Andrew hopped into the drivers seat and the boys all shouted" Shot gun!" and immediately started pushing each other to get in the front passenger side. "Nope, not happening." Andrew said in a firm voice."Todd hop in. I am not listening to them whinnying all the was to Club Z. " As we got underway Reginald could not keep quiet. He asked his questions one after the other. "So where are you from? Which pack? Who is your alpha? How old are you? Are you a beta? Gamma? Delta? How come you are such a good fighter?" When I laughed at the last one he earnestly proclaimed "No seriously, the only good workout Titus gets is when he fights the alphas- in- training. Titus is a serious fighter his father is...." I never got to hear the end because Titus and Collins jumped him and the jeep swerved sharply. We all jerked sideways but the jeep kept going. With panic I looked back but I saw nothing that could have made us swerve. I realised that again I had not been paying attention to my surroundings. We were driving along a dirt road through a dense forest. It was not a two way dirt road. The trees on both sides were tall and imposing. There was a heaviness in the darkness being cast by the trees. No human would be tempted to come our way. I was sure they had bought in mages to ward the forest. As the atmosphere did not feel natural. Imagine if the school was discovered by humans or hunters the next generation of werewolf leaders would be compromised at best, murdered at worst. There had to be a shield but I had not felt it yesterday coming in. "Hey guys is there a shield around the school? The guys looked at me askew. Andrew quietly asked" Why do you ask?" I decided to trust them. "I felt a heaviness as we passed the forest and it just felt like there was a spell or shield around the school." Again Andrew spoke"You must be very intuitive. What pack did you say you are from again?" That he asked the question was not surprising as I already knew Andrew to be an Alpha. I guess the others just deferred to him and he spoke for the collective. I guessed these guys were from his pack as he had mindlinked them to come to the car. You can only mindlink family or pack mates. Everyone in the car was quiet for a while and we drove in silence. It was a reflective silence as if each one of us was contemplating something. I wondered if I had found my pose at the school. I had never trusted so easily or so quickly. Even with my family I was guarded. The expectation had always been on me to do more as people expected me to fail. Help your brother be the best but don't let anyone know you are doing it is how I felt. Though to be honest it was never said. We had been close growing up and he never had any expectations on me. He would protect me teach me and comfort me. I looked up to him and I still did but the year apart seemed to have done a number on us. When I had arrived yesterday I had expected him to help me settle in but all he did was greet me, help me to my room asked if I was sorted and then he told me he had to rush. I was glad he had been there but now.... I felt as if I was an afterthought. I couldn't believe he had a girl in his room, if mom found out there would be hell to pay. She wanted us to wait for our mates. No double standard for her. She believed that if girls could wait so could boys. She also always said it was not fair for a leaders wife to have to deal with past partners as that could cause friction. Some she wolves were attracted to power and position so there had been stories of she wolves demanding to be chosen mates because of lengths of relationship or because the had fallen in love. This went against all things te goddess desired and had destined for us. Laughter brought my awareness back. "You are right Drew. Todd is in desperate need of a drink. I think I gave him too many head shots." I heard Titus say. I joined in the laughter. Could be true, I was definitely off. "We are here," Collin said "Rules time. 1. No bringing humans to campus. 2. No fighting. 3. No going off on your own though it's a human town we are not the only supes around. So we take no chances. 4...." I never got to know what 4 was as all the others started groaning" Yessss dadddd.". We trouped out of the jeep in stitches. Ready for a night on the town.
CHAPTER 2. The CLUB Z had a line that wrapped around the block. I couldn't see the end of it. We walked to the entrance and we're waved in. I looked at Andrew in suprise. "We are not waiting in line" I asked. "Nuh man, we are well known here." Andrew replied. The boys chuckled so I knew there was more to the story but I didn't ask. On one of the tables sat a beautiful blonde girl. My heart stuttered. She had the hour glass figure that would make Lycan cry. She smiled at us. The guys chorused." HEY Sasha. "She smelled wolven so I knew she was one of us. It was only as we passed by that I noticed she was surrounded by other girls. I wanted to stop and talk to her but the boys kept walking until we reached the back of the club. We went up the stairs to a canopy balcony. It was covered in funa so much that it gave a foresty feel. I immediately felt at home and relaxed. The noise from the dj box was muted and all we could here was a faint hum. It was gentle and not harsh on the eardrums. "Wow guys I believe we have arrived." I exclaimed "You sure know how to pick them. This is the coolest club I have ever been to. Are you sure it's not shifter owned?"
