Deception - A story of short stories

“Nikolas, please. Just listen to me.”

“Just shut up, Dad! You were always too busy for us, Mum was never there. You have nothing to explain. You left us, and that’s the end of it.”

“Get out of my house, Dad. Right now. You don’t get to treat my brothers like shit and live in my house.” James’ furious tone booms from his bedroom which is followed by his harsh figure emerging from the now open door.

“Holy shit.” The only reaction to leave Nikolas’s mouth.

“James, I’m your father. You wouldn’t do this to me. You know you’re going to regret it.”

“Yeah, maybe I will. Or consider this Dad, maybe you don’t deserve to be our father and you never will. We’re better than you in every way and will never, ever, be like you. So I’m going to say it one. Last. Time” He pauses briefly. “Get out of my house.”

It’s unknown whether it was the threats or the extremely threatening death glares that sent him over the edge. Regardless, he’s not coming back, and that’s for sure.

“Holy shit. That was intense now wasn’t it”

There’s no response from James and Nikolas. Both just simply staring at the now wide-open front door.

“I did it.” James whispers, barely audible.

Nikolas simply nods a response.

“Niko?”

Nikolas meets Oliver’s scared, regretful gaze.

“I’m sorry mate.”

Niko’s eyes widen as two men jump from Oliver’s room and grab hold of James, immobilising him. Another 3 men grab Niko.

Oliver walks his way to Niko, a mysterious syringe in hand.

“This will only hurt a bit.”

He stabs Niko and injects him with the mystery serum as Niko falls to the ground from the effects.

“Niko!” James screams as the men carry him away.

“He’s a monster, James, but you’re safe now.”

“You’re the monster.”

And Oliver leaves. Leaving James to so much as weep when Oliver’s men drop him and drag Nikolas away.

James decides he will now and forever help people like Niko, and get revenge on Oliver.
