Chapter 1

Noah was awakened by his phone buzzing. He rolled over and grabbed his phone. He had a text from his best friend Elliot. The text read, “get ready, be there in 15.” He didn’t really want to wake up at 6am, but summer was almost over. He rolled out of bed and walked into his closet. He threw on sweatpants he made into shorts, along with a plain white t-shirt. He groggily walked over to his bathroom brush his teeth. His Hazel eyes were only half open, the messy brown mop on his head was in desperate need of a brush. He styled his hair and got his shoes on. Just as he sat down he heard a quiet tapping on his window,

“Elliot is here” he thought. He opened his curtains and saw Elliot sitting on a tree branch, grinning like a little kid. Elliot was tall, but not noticeably so. His hazelnut skin and brown eyes were always complimented by his singular dimple. His curly, black hair sat messily on his head. He was wearing his usual jeans, converse, and skull t-shirt.

“Heyy Noah” he said with a little too much energy for 6:17 am.

“Hi,” muttered Noah, still sleepy.

“Are you ready?” Asked Elliot

“Well what are we going to do?”

“A new walking path opened, I wanted to go check it out.” Answered Elliot

“Alright, let me grab my bag.” Noah grabbed a small brown satchel, he put his notebook, pencil, and phone inside, “Ok, lets go.”

The two boys climbed out the window and down the tree. They started walking to the nearby park.

“What do you think you’ll find?” Asked Elliot

“Maybe some cool rocks or crystals. ” Noah said.

“Your no fun” Elliot paused for a moment, “What about, like a magic portal?”

“Magic isn’t real.” Noah replied

They arrived and started along the new trail

“Ooooo this new trail is pretty,” Elliot said in awe.

Noah was about to reply but spotted a shiny object in the ground, “Hey, what’s this?” He crouched down and picked it up.

“Looks like a coin” said Elliot

“Yeah. I was hoping it was a crystal.” Noah signed

“You have to many already.” Elliot chuckled

“No, I don’t!” defended Noah.

“Chill, I’m just playing.” Elliot laughed

“Good.” huffed Noah

They continued walking and came across a small waterfall.

“Ooo look” Noah dashed off to the waterfall, he was poking around and knocked a rock out of place, he peeked into the hole and gasped. There was a small cavern. “AHH! ELLIOT! LOOK!” Shouted Noah.

Elliot frowned as he strolled over. Noah was crawling inside. against his better judgement, Elliot followed him inside.

Noah squealed, “Oh my god look at all these crystals!”

Elliot didn’t see any until Noah pulled a small rock out of the wall and cleaned it off with some water. Noah’s phone rang, “Hello? Yes I’m with Elliot, why? Fine.”, Noah sighed, “Mom says I have to come home”

They crawled out of the cave, and stood up confused

“This isn’t where we were” muttered Noah. He took a step forward and the ground gave way from below both of them
