I felt my skin burn as I started to light the fire. It was the middle of winter and snow filled the land as far as I could see. I live alone, not trusting anyone as they could be traitors and spies from Russia. Ever since last year, there have been Putin’s spies all over the world. They try to look like imposters to try and fool us but the only way you can fool them is to not even talk to them. My only piece of advice for anyone is don’t trust anyone, as they could try to take your food and even try to take your identity.
I gathered up my belongings as I was about to head out to change my location. I could never just stay in the same place, I always had to move. It was too risky just staying in the same spot for an entire day, the spies would find me and I would be dead. I found an abandoned truck still filled with gas, I was a little skeptical at first but I jumped into the driver’s seat and put my foot on the pedal. All of the windows in the truck were open, I couldn’t close them. I just needed to keep my head low so nobody would find me.
I’m 14, I’ve never driven a vehicle a day in my life. I attempted to find out how to start the car, I looked in the key hole, Arg no key. I looked around for a key, but I couldn’t find anything. I pulled down the glovebox to see if there was anything in there but instead I found a paper. It showed a profile of a spy. Her name was Gianna Perez. I didn’t recognize her based on the picture but I told myself to watch out for her as it said that her skill level was a full 10 out of 10.
I rummaged around the glove box some more and found the key. Yes! Finally! I stuck it into the keyhole but was disappointed to see that it didn’t fit. I was done with this truck so I grabbed my backpack and got out of there as quickly as I could. I decided that I would just take a step for this move. I saw some people up on the side of the hill, they were a small family with a father, mother, daughter and baby son. They looked like they were going to freeze to death. I felt that talking to them would be too risky so I just kept walking as they stared at me passing by.
I don’t even know where I was. Back in 2029 my family was evacuated out of Mexico and to Asia. They left me behind, forgetting that I existed. I was in my room playing with toy cars as the events unfolded. Spies began to flood the house as I was the only one left living there. They found me, held a gun up to my head and told me to walk. I was 9 years old at the time, not having a clue what was going on so I just followed them, doing what they said. I went there just as they took me to Russia. They did tests on me and filled me with drugs to try and make me a spy like one of them, but I knew what they were doing. I had been planning my escape for months in that prison of a lab. One night, I had finally done it. I had escaped. I did it right before the guards would step foot to check our cells. I was just skinny enough to fit through the bars and made my way out through the heavy metal door. There were guards all around me so the only way that they wouldn’t suspect me was to be one of them. I hid in a coat closet, dressing out and into a guard. And then that’s how I made my escape.
Jezz, that was 4 years ago, back when the world was first getting destroyed. I remember back then I was more cautious than I have ever been. The last thing I wanted was to be stuck in that prison again. God, I don’t know what I would do if that happened.
