Debts to be paid

Catalina

Four weeks ago my mom and stepdad passed. Now it's just my older sister and I. 'knock' 'knock' 'knock' My train of thought is interrupted by knocking at the front door. I get up from the desk. It's late in the evening and I am not expecting anyone. I decide to take a peek out the window. I see a middle-aged woman dressed in business casual and two men stand behind her with suits and ties. Hesitatingly I ask " Who is it?" "We are here to speak with Catalina Rose." The middle-aged woman responds. " Who is asking?" I answer. "Could you please open the door, so we can talk face to face? It's regarding your parents."

I quickly open the door. "What about my parents?" I ask. The woman responds "May we come in?'' I nervously open the door wider " Yes, sorry come in." " The living room is to your left, you can sit anywhere." All three come in and she sits down, oddly enough both men dressed in black decide to stand one on the left and one on the right. Something is not sitting right with me. I impulsively said, " My boyfriend is upstairs sleeping we can't be too loud." I lied. My sister was not home.

"Would you guys like anything to drink?" I ask. "No, thank you. My name is Mary Bardot and I work for the Richardsons. Unfortunately, before your stepfather passed away he had a lot of unpaid debt. And I am here to collect on what is owed." I am lost for words I do not know how to respond to her. " Yes, but what does that have to do with me? All the money I had saved went to my parent's burial services. I don't have anything left." I respond feeling the heat rise to my face, my eyes sting while I try to hold back my tears. " Yes, Miss Rose but unfortunately you were put up on as collateral. A long with the house." She paused and continued " You will have to come with us. Work off the debt as a living maid."

"please excuse me I need to go to the ladies' room," I state. 'I don't know what kind of shady things my stepfather was in but I do not want a part of it' I am still grieving their deaths. I do not want to go with them. I know exactly how the Richardson family is. And when you get down to it, it is never good.

I realize I have been in the bathroom too long. I get out and head to the kitchen "Would you guys like anything to drink?” I ask from the other room clacking cups to make it sound like I am getting myself something to drink. "No, thank you, Miss Rose. But we would appreciate it if we could finish this conversation at the Richordsons Manor." She says in a stern voice. "Yes, give me a second I need to get my purse." I tried to use my voice to try and cover up the sound of me unlocking the back door. They must be out of their minds if they think I am going to just go. I swing the front door open and run. Just to run into something that felt like a brick wall. I looked up just to see another man in a black suit. “Let me go!!” I am kicking and screaming but quickly grab my hands and zip ties them behind my back. Immediately after he said” I am sorry.” pinched my neck everything went dark.

" Go out back and wait just in case she tries to run." Mary Bordot instructed me. "Yes, ma'am," I respond. I went out back and waited for about thirty minutes. Before the back door swung open, a small woman ran straight into me. Her aroma is enchanting. I inhaled as much as I could, before spinning her around and zip-tied her hands behind her back. " I am sorry," I said. I grabbed the syringe that was full of midazolam and injected her neck. Her body went limp, I ended up throwing her over my shoulders like a bag of rice.

“Put her in the van we will finish this conversation at the manor.” Ms. Bordot instructed. “Yes, ma’am,” I respond. I put her in the back of the van where John and Roy waiting “Did you check on the boyfriend upstairs?” Roy asked John. " Yes, it was clear,” John responded. 'Why would she lie' I wonder. ' Maybe she does not have one' "Don't forget to put the head cover on her." Roy said interrupting my train of thought. ‘What's wrong with me? I do not usually get distracted so easily. Captivated by her presence I lingered a little over her before I put the sack over her head.
