Chapter 1: The Explosion

We were in class when it happened. The sirens went off and the well off rich kids were taken out by their parents. We were told to stay put because they will come back for us. I knew that would never happen so I went off on my own. I raided places for food and supplies and traveled to my families abandon property. We never sold it but everyone except me had forgotten about it. I went to my great grandfathers old military bunker and continued to make trips to stock the entire bunker. By the time I actually finished stocking it with all the necessary supplies, the town's reactor exploded. I heard the screams of citizens burning from the chemicals and fire. I listened to the pain filled cries of survivors who lost their loved ones. This went on for weeks, until I finally started hearing them. The creations from the explosion rising and running. They were merciless with the slaughter.

I had training like this before from my father as he knew this would happen. He knew that he would never survive when the zombie apocalypse happened, so he made sure that his only child would survive. Their where times when the neighbors tried to get my father locked away for child abuse but the last time that happened, I caused a scene. They put me in temporary custody with my neighbors and I yelled at them all the time. When the police showed up, I told them that the neighbors were trying to kill me since they finally got rid of my father. When I was asked to elaborate, I told them how I was constantly locked in my room because they thought I was a rat. I told them that I was rarely fed and was constantly being abused. I even told the cops that they tried to drown me multiple times.

My neighbors couldn't stop me because if they tried to shut me up, then they would look guilty. The cops asked them if it was true and they said no. In about a week, I was standing in a courtroom. I explained everything to the judge as he took it all into consideration. After looking over evidence, it was proven that my neighbors set up my father so they could take me out. My father was released and they were sentenced to life with no chance of parole. My father continued to train me and prepare me for this event for years. All the way until he was taken from me by cancer. I cried for days as I refused to believe that he was gone. I grieved for months before finally accepting that he was gone. I looked through the things that he left me and found lots of maps and training guides for the zombie apocalypse. I kept them and continued my training for years as I avoided making attachments. I didn't want to have people hold me back from surviving.

I stashed all the books and training manuals in the bunker with the maps. I put a few bookshelves in there with lots of journals and books so I could stay busy. I put all my fathers weapons in there and slowly stocked up on supplies. When the reactor exploded, I locked the bunker for months. I ignored whoever tried to get in. I had all that I could need in this bunker and only went out for emergency supply runs. I gave up my name and only kept the code name my father gave to me. Code name, The creator of life fit so well. I grew my own crops so I did less and less supply runs. I continued to fortify the bunker as the creatures evolved. No matter how many times they evolved, they never evolved enough to break through steel. I know that it will come that they will evolve enough to bust through steel and I pray to be long dead from old age or be strong enough to kill them as they enter.

I soon realized that I ran out of butter, oil, paper and meat. I put on my gas mask and unlocked the door to the main hall. I air sealed it and made sure the door was secured behind me and opened the main bunker door. I stepped out shut the bunker behind me, recovering it in the process. I had my machete on my hip and began my hike to the town over. I knew it wouldn't take long to get there and I also knew they had lots of things that I would need. I took the forest path since I knew the zombies wouldn't see me and continued to do my walk to the next town. I came close to a sniffer and he seemed to catch my scent. He screeched and lunged right for me. I dodged and weaved as he attempted to grab me. I pulled my machete out and sliced it's head in half. It dropped and was distracted long enough for me to make a run for it.

I finally made it to the town over in about and hour and a half and wrapped around the large grocery store. I went through the back door and knew that nothing would be in here since I locked it down the last time I was here. I went to the coolers that were running on solar power so they never turned off. I filled my bag with meat before going to the butters. I grabbed cartons of butter before moving on to the oils. I grabbed gallons of oil and put all the stuff in a shopping cart. I went and cleared the supplies aisle of all it's binders, loose papers, notebooks, pens, pencils and sharpeners. I grabbed candles and lighters as well as lighter fluid so I can have some calming light. I grabbed more flashlights and batteries before finally leaving out the back. I resealed the back door and left the way I came. I made it home in two hours with no problems and entered my bunker. I sealed the front door before purifying the air and removing my gas mask. I locked the main door and entered the rest of my bunker and unpacked.

I soon collapsed onto my bed and fell asleep. I drift off into a memory of good times as to escape the horrifying truth of my reality. I know I will need it for the days to come.
