Chapter 1

Every body must experience that time when you are new in a place, especially in school. Well that is what this four young ladies are about to experience.

Aisha, Jane, Malika and Miriam.

They stood under the shade of a tree with their luggages staring at students passing. Some running to class, some walking slowly and some even talking while staring at them.

The school didn't feel like any tertiary institution at all, at least not how people talk about it. All the students were in white uniforms.

Female Muslim students in a white short sleeve shirt with matching trousers and shoulder length hijab of the same color while female christian students were wearing white short sleeve knee length dress with a nightingale cap.

The male students all wear the same type of uniform which is a white short sleeve shirt and brown trousers since they are all students nurses as only female study midwifery.

The only thing differentiating the student midwives from the student nurses is the strip on the sleeve of the muslim students and on the nightingale caps of the christian students.

Well that is not their concern now. Their problem is to get their hostel room keys and settle down.

They walked towards the administrative block to collect the keys from the hostel master, Mr Boni.

They went straight to his office as they have been shown the place during their orientation last week.

They knocked the door when the reached the office and heard a 'come in' after a minute.

Aisha entered first and collected hers, followed by Miriam, then Jane and lastly Malika.

"What is your room number?" Malika asked Jane.

"Room A102" She replied.

" Me too. Which hostel is yours? Mine is Kaduna Hostel." Aisha said.

"Me too!" Malika, Miriam and Jane said together.

"Well, it seems like we are room mates." Aisha said smiling.

"Yeah" the other three agreed.

"Let's get going then." Malika said.

They left the administrative block and went to the hostel they were given, which is Kaduna Hostel.

The hostels in the school are named after the states in Nigeria. There are 5 hostels which are; KADUNA, KANO, LAGOS, ENUGU AND SOKOTO (which is known as the boys hostel).

The hostels have 4 block each (A, B, C & D) and each block has 2 floors. The ground floor is A, B, C &D while the top floor is A1,B1,C1 &D1.

Each floor has 9 rooms and each room is to contain four people. Each room has its own bathroom, kitchen and a small balcony.

They reached the hostel and entered it. They were welcomed by a very clean environment and few ladies moving about. The located their room which happened to be on the top floor.

They opened the door using the key they were given and entered the room.

They room was painted walls and has one ceiling fan. It has two bonk beds, which were placed side by side and four light bulbs, each attached to the four walls of the room. It also has two medium sized study tables with wall attached lamps.

It also has a window that is situated above the level of the study tables and from the your can see the other hostels. It also have another window which you can see the hostel compound from. Both windows are large and burglar proofed.

On the right side of the room is a built in wardrobe that has four doors and keys attached to each.

At the other end of the room are two doors one leading to the bathroom and the other one leading to the balcony which has a door that leads to the kitchen.

" I like the room." Jane said smiling.

" Yeah, me too. It's nice and spacious." Aisha answered.

" That's true!" Malika said.

" Well let's start arranging our things and this room needs to get cleaned. Then we will introduce ourselves. What do you think?" Miriam suggested.

" Yeah." They other three chorused.

And with that they got to work.

The main female character reminds me somewhat of myself having to deal with childhood trauma that just leads you down a path of more bad decisions until one day you make a decision that changes everything for the better and it’s hard for to realize that...
