Chapter 1

Once upon a storm out over the sea an old rusty aircraft soared about. Its body once candy to the eyes smothered in a mask of fresh paint, held so much promise for the passengers. With almost all remains of its mask washed off by the pelting rain of the storm onlookers would question who had been foolish enough to climb aboard such an aircraft in the first place.

Inside, most passengers had been drained of all their energy as the long hours of the flight had taken their toll on them. The stale cushions which once felt like stone-cold plates now became a sense of comfort as their bodies had molded to the seats. Their warmth merged with others and rose around them creating a cozy feel for those desperate to sleep.

However, even with the loudest of snores the flight attendants still couldn’t hear it, through the storm. Rushing to and fro in haste with plastered smiles on their face. A closer look and one could see the worry they held inside through the way they moved about. For who wouldn’t shake if they saw the fate that lie in wait for them. Hovering over their heads just waiting for a chance to strike.

With hope so far away the flight attendants wondered what the state of the captain was. Perhaps he had some kind of plan up his sleeve from all his years in flight and they would come to see their panic was all in vain. But what if they came to see he was just as stressed as they had feared and the last snippets of hope they held would fade off into the storm outside.

With a slight wobble in their step, they made it across the shaky floor. A few feet away from where the captain would be they looked to each other in question as to who would go in, if they dare go in at all. At last, one raised her head high, her posture filled with confidence, but her companions knew the fear she held inside, still, they had someone to go and they didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news. Alas, they stepped aside and let her make her way through. Her steps faded away and with that space anxiety and dread crept in.

With great hesitation, the brave flight attendant raised her head to see the captain’s state. His form relaxed like usual. The fake smile they all held he had plastered on his face too, but she could see in his eyes the same fear they held if not more.

“Is there anything else we can do?” She asked full of dread at his words. Silence followed after like the captain couldn’t be sure what to say. Finally, he opened his mouth to speak.

“I’m afraid we can’t help what’s to come of us today.” His voice was so uncertain it was hard to hear.

“Or what’s to become of me today.” That statement was strong like he knew that he would be the first among them to go and how his death would mark the beginning of the end to many aboard that night.

He turned away from her with nothing else to say and she was left defeated. There was nothing she could do, nothing they could do. Her last breath was to be aboard that plane. There was so much she still had left in life, but gone she was to be. The next time her loved ones were to see her would be the remains of her corpse.

Her companions looked on as she returned to see her face in a daze, stone white. Her smile frozen on her face looked more like that of a haunted doll. The news she held was apparent to be what they all had dreaded. They realized the same thing she had realized earlier. She made her way past them her body crumbling to the floor before she could reach the bathroom, Her last lingers of bravery were gone.

Soon the worry would grow aboard until everyone had been touched for one little girl couldn’t stop moving. In her sleep, she twitched and kicked her legs about. Sweat was apparent on her face for the poor thing was battling her own demons. At long last, she cried out in her sleep. Her gut-wrenching scream pierced the passengers hearts throughout the entire plane awaking them in fright.

Before anyone could comprehend what woke them with such a startle another red-raw scream forced its way up the little girl’s throat causing the passenger at her side to jerk in fright wondering what she dreamt of that hurt her so. Glancing about in haste he looked on to see if there was anyone on bored with her. Not seeing anyone he turned his sight back to the girl, perhaps she was alone on the flight. He watched her little body tremble as she opened her mouth to scream once more with tears streaming down her little face. He couldn’t bear to hear her scream anymore it ripped his heart every time and shook those of the passengers aboard the plane.

Deciding no one was coming for her he took matters into his own hands and shook the little girl awake. At last Her little brown eyes opened as she look at him still in a fright her mouth open ready to scream. Her mind still seemed to race with remnants of her dream. Curling into herself as she cried her little body continued to tremble feeling alone and afraid.

“Excuse me.” He asked her softly hoping not to startle her. She stopped crying for a second to look to the passenger that awoke her.

“My name is Richard” He stated hoping to make her feel more at ease. She nodded her head indicating she was listening, before she quietly mumbled her name. She was so quiet he barley heard her.

“Dior are you traveling alone?" At that her lower lip began to tremble and he found himself opening his arms to her. After a moment of hesitation she inched closer before she berried her face in his arms. Her little body trembled in his embrace as she cried softly to herself while Richard spoke to her soothing words in hopes she would forget what troubled her. Soon she was able to drift off in his embrace while he glanced about the plane just now realizing the state there were in

Like him it seemed no one could think to drift again after they had awakened as they did. They began to notice the littlest things around them. How the rain crushed against the windows in an angry rage determined to brake threw. The way the floor creaked as the attendants walked in haste. There forced smiles and eyes of fear. The one up ahead on the floor crouched, threw her hands her face was that of a ghost. Everyone could hear what they couldn’t figure out. The subtle, but clear echo of droplets splashing as they hit the floor. A growing puddle sloshed around as water rose through the carpets cracks. No one could make out just yet where the water was coming in from.

hushed whispers made its way up and down the plane growing to a low buzz As people questioned there safety. Realizing the calm wouldn’t be so easy to keep anymore a couple of attendants turned to the mike. There voices trembled to get out words of safety telling people not to panic or how the pilot would try to land the plane. At long last one couldn’t take it anymore. Her voice broke and people felt the weight of her words as she let them know her worries.

“We’re going to die, today ...” Her words piercing the hearts of many.

“...so pray oh people of this wretched aircraft. Pray to what ever god you have and any hope you have hold it then let it go. For we will die today.” Trembling She left the mike leaving the passengers to soak it in. No one could take back what had been said, but they tried all the same, some muttered a guaranteed landing soon although no one seemed to believe it.

Passengers all were taking the news different, for some it hadn’t fully set in yet they gazed ahead in a daze not knowing what they wanted to believe. Others decided to take the time awake to get what they wanted, done and out of the way and so they rose in haste. A pair couldn’t make up there mind, the boy tried to stand while a desperate girl clung to his arm in worry. She gazed on pleading with her brother to stay with her and wait out the storm. Not knowing what was to come of them she didn’t want to be any bit apart from her brother. He wanted to be everywhere rushing in haste to get things done, although food was the first thing that came to mind.

“Who knows when we’ll get to eat again. I’m starving.” He pleaded in hopes his sister would understand he would be fast and come right back.

“I’ll bring some back to you, give me a bag.” He gestured to there belongings tucked in front of her feet under the seat in front of her.

She thought it over before reaching under for something to give him.

“Please hurry back.” She gave in letting his arm go.

With worry still in her heart she kept her eyes glued on his retreating figure until he disappeared from her view. Right after he left her view Thunder sounded shaking the plane to its core. Passengers took hold of what ever they could in panic, not everyone was so lucky, bumping there heads and what not, being tossed to and fro.

The scours of the dripping water was sought in the commotion as people were thrown on there backs and made to see the enlarged crack in the ceiling above them. How old was the plane there were abored? How long would it hold before it gave out forever?

The panic abored grew as people began to believe death was upon them. They scrambled to and fro as they sought what ever means they could to survive. luggage were being opened belongs were thrown about in haste, the pushing and shoving begin.

In the midst of the chaos abored one young man stood tall. He clenched the seat in front of him so as to not tumble over, before he cleared his throat to speak.

“May I have everyone’s attention please!!!” The plane shook harder even as people stilled to glance to the young man.

“This is very important in a time like now!” He drew in a breath before continuing.

" I’m gay and I like girls.” He glanced out at everyone with an anxious look waiting for a response, but had an air of satisfaction like his words would help save the situation. silence filled the air as people took in what he said in disbelief.

“I’m not attracted to guys in anyway...” Not being able to take it anymore people began to mock him in disbelief.

"You idiot were about to die and that’s what you have to say!” They continued to scream there frustration all the while he took a deep breath and finished his sentence.

“And I know its hard to believe, but I have...” He reached into his pocket before pulling out what he sought.

Holding the lump in his hands he declared with a smile on his face. “A potato.” He stared at it like he won the lottery before gazing around at everyone, it was obvious he was oblivious to what was going on as he gave himself a big pat on the back followed by a congrats.

The screaming began again as people argued about what to do, pushing people to and fro while others were jammed in the middle with no place to go all the while the crack above there heads grew. The pelting rain made its way to the heads of some as it forced its way through the small hole that had began to take shape.

Through all the ruckus A static sound priced the air as lightning struck, and with that the power went out. A great chunk of the roof Shook above the heads of those in the back before it gave in to the wind blowing it clean off. People scrambled to gram onto something as the wind sucked what ever it could. Familiar faces were torn apart as the gaping hole hung above there heads. Loved ones were made to watch each other from afar some debating to make a daring run across.

“FELIX!!, DON’T MOVE!!” Stopping in his tracks he glanced across the plane to his sister. The bag of food swayed back and forth in his hand.

He didn’t think it’d be to much of a problem to get across if he held on to things so he proceeded to start again. Right in front of him an Older lady was struggling to hold on. She clutched in her hands a bunch of stuff that she was determined to keep through the storm. With her plane seat was strapped to her back and a mound of luggage her hands came free and the wind swept her up and out of the hole in front of everyone before they could catch her.

“Adios” she screamed as she was flung off into the storm. The danger was now apparent to all erasing the thought to make a run for it.

with his food still in hand Felix stared back at his sister there impending doom was apparent to him now as he now held the same fear in his eyes. All the same he mouthed that he would be fine as he took another step back from the growing danger hoping to calm his sisters nerves as well as his own. His sister however was not relieved her eyes stung as the fear in her heart wanted to be set free. She clung to her seat with nothing else to hold wishing with all her might that her brother wasn’t so far away. wishing she wouldn’t have to die alone.

With one last attempt to get people to calm down the flight attendant told people to sit down and fasten there seat belts. It did no good for anyone except for one young man who made sure to fasten the seat belt around his potato friend as well. Once he was sure that the potato was secured in the empty seat next to him he sat back with smile on his face letting out a breath as if the worst was over.

“You heard the dude we’ll be safe with a seat belt ON.” He shouted.

The worst was still yet to come with the lightning getting closer every second. The engine stopped and the plane went plummeting down.

“Why is there a potato in my seat?” Someone cried out while everyone else screamed bloody murder.

“That last lightning strike took out the pilot” time seemed to freeze as last bits of hope flew out the gaping hole in the roof. Reality became all to frightening to comprehend yet somehow it wasn’t worse than the little girls nightmares for she was still sound asleep in her saviors arms although he shook with great fright. Clutching onto things he prepared for the worst to come.

The floor shook As the crack shot out to the sides of the plane, now being ripped apart with the storms anger.
