Chapter 1
The Hidden Truth
Myra sat behind the front desk at the Blue Moon library, her fingers tapping lightly against the keyboard as the soft hum of conversation surrounded her. She glanced up, a smile spreading across her face as she caught sight of a young girl carefully selecting a book from the shelf. Helping others discover new worlds within the pages of books was a joy that filled Myra's heart every day.
At twenty-five years old, Myra was known for her kind-hearted nature and willingness to assist anyone who came through the library's doors. With her wavy chestnut hair cascading down her shoulders and a perpetual warmth in her hazel eyes, she embodied a sense of comfort and reassurance.
Myra had always been drawn to the power of stories, the endless possibilities that awaited within their lines and paragraphs. Ever since she was a child, she had dreamed of uncovering hidden truths and secrets that lay dormant in the pages of forgotten books.
In the tranquil town of Blue Moon, where the line between reality and myths often blurred, Myra couldn't help but wonder if there was more to the tales whispered by the locals. And strange occurrences only fueled her curiosity further.
One night, as the moon shone brightly overhead, Myra found herself walking the deserted streets of Blue Moon. The air was cool, and the sound of howling filled the night, sending shivers down her spine. It wasn't the first time she had heard such noises, but tonight, it seemed to unearth a restlessness within her.
The next day, Myra couldn't help but share her experiences with her best friend, Cassy. They were seated at their favorite corner of the library during their lunch break, surrounded by towering bookshelves.
"Cassy, last night, I heard the most peculiar howling," Myra whispered, her eyes darting around to ensure no one else overheard. "And there have been strange disappearances lately. Something feels off."
Cassy raised an eyebrow, a skeptical smile playing at her lips. "Come on, Myra. You know how people love to embellish stories in this town. It's just another urban legend."
But Myra could sense there was more to it. Determined to unveil the truth, she returned to her duties, her mind buzzing with unanswered questions. And as fate would have it, she stumbled upon an ancient book hidden away in the library's labyrinth of shelves.
The book was dusty with a worn out leather cover. She decided to keep it aside for later and continued her previous work. She was so engrossed in her reading that she totally forgot she was meant to lock up about an hour back. She quickly stood up, closed her book and started closing up. It took her more than her usual time to finish but she was done at last.
On her way home, she kept hearing growling and howling of animals. She quickly hurried and arrived home right on time. She saw her father's car on the drive way which was unusual, seeing as he was usually not home by this time. She walked in and met her dad with her step mom, Jenna and her bitchy daughter, Carrie. They all seemed to be discussing something very important.
"hey dad," she greeted her dad. "ohh, hey there princess, just got home I guess?" he asked, to which I only nodded. I also greeted my step mom who only glared at me and her daughter. I once caught my step mom cheating on my dad with his friend. I told my dad. He confronted her and I ended up receiving series of beating from her and her daughter.
Well for those of you that don't know, she was my mom's best friend. They practically grew up together. Well my step mom that is. I lost my mom when I was very young. So my dad got married to my step mom so she could take care if me. At that time, she also had a daughter out of wedlock. So she came to live with us with her daughter.
Ever since then, I've known no peace. She behaves like the perfect mother in my dad's presence and is a complete bitch behind his back. I was already used to it by now. I decided to ask my dad what the problem was, "uhh, hey dad. If you don't mind me asking, what seems to be the matter?."he seemed to be contemplating on whether to tell me or not when my step mom stepped in." just go to bed dear, it's nothing to worry about. "she was indirectly telling me to fuck off while glaring daggers at me.
I got the memo and was about to head to my room when my dad's voice stopped me," no jenna, she deserves to know. Well dear, they've been series of killing and kidnapping of the locals. A body of a young lad was found in the forest with his heart missing. His limbs all broken in odd direction." he finished with his head hunged low. I felt the blood drained from my face. I was really scared would be an understatement.
I quickly excused my self and rushed to the bathroom. I threw up the whole lunch I had with cassy.i was never a fan of violence to begin with. So I just quickly took a shower and settled on my bed. I decided to go through the worn out book I saw earlier at the library to get my mind off the things dad told me.
I dusted off the dust from the front page and flipped through it."VATICINIUM ET RENASCENTIA DEAE LUNAE." was written boldly at the top. well I have no idea what that means but I kept going through it.
"Emerget electus. Cuius fatum cum eo quod metuitur ignotis erit intextum. Illud quod obendum est ad aequitatem et stabilitatem in utrisque mundis adferendum. Reincarnatio Selene, deae lunae, et regina omnibus. Regina genti cui non est." I don't know why but I was drawn to this book. I decided to know more about it and also its weird language.
With that, I closed the book and decided to call it a night.
