"I really enjoy the plot and how the cleaner has figured things out to a certain point that the staff have now made him a patient"
Thrilling but unsurprising ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Plot The story moves from the past into the present, it does diminish expectations since we know the fate of Frank Green, but the story still retains lots of tension through each letters. A major drawback was that the story borrowed lots of elements from Lovecraft and thus if you're familiar with H. P. Lovecraft's works such as myself, there's only few novelty this book has to offer. POV A perfect delivery of limited first person POV. We get more telling instead of showing, but some scene does offer good showing. Characters Frank Green A war veteran trying his best to survive in an ever so slightly changing world and tried his best to foster a cat named Claude. Honestly I wish for a happy ending for him, but obviously the synopsis promised me he died anyway, leaving Claude's fate unknown. He's written well as a character that wrote well-written letters, but he didn't have much agency throughout the story other than he try to warn Secretary of State & Minister of Health. Dr. Henry Smith The mysterious recipient of Frank Green's letters and supposedly friend, but Frank's effort was proved useless as Henry Smith barely remembers him and that the letters never made it to him. Smethwick (If it's his real name) The patient in 'Cell 34' The story revolved around him at first before Frank's tragic registration into it. He's not insane yet, but The Royal Nazarene Hospital diagnosed him as mentally ill. Smethwick are one of the many victim visited by Cthulhu in their dreams and so he showcase lots of symptoms that assured people he lost his marbles. We lost him in the middle of the story, but we do know he's not escaping Cthulhu's tentacles whereverhe went. Dr. Perez A nice doctor Frank frequently talked to, but we do know he's terminated by the unknown forces. Dr. Voigt A creepy doctor in The Nazarene who I believed to be part of the unknown forces. He's definitely malicious and written well, although I hope that Frank gets a scene where he at least showed Dr. Voigt he's not afraid of him. Inspector Ruth Oakwood So, I wouldn't consider her as a protagonist, because obviously the story barely involved her and that she's always safe being the readers just like us. What we got from her were just the prologue & epilogue so that's that about her. Set The place was set in London on 1928, not the best time to be alive, considering it's in the middle of two World Wars, but hey we can't choose our fate, am I right? The Royal Nazarene would've been a scenic hospital to behold and work in, but cell 34 have proved there's darkness lurking the halls of this hospital Themes & Symbolism Hospital, a great symbol for disease, technology and goverment London, an extraordinary symbol for how even a Superpower nation is miniscule in the face of Cthulhu Letters and news, The symbol for information, voice and communication. Frank Green barely had anyone to talk to and that his number one method of communication is by letters. We also know very little of Cthulhu and its cultists. After Frank was dumped into The Nazarene, nobody listened to him and that only thorough letters he could actually speak, throughout the story we only knew Frank Green through his letters alone. This symbolise how easy yet hard for informations to spread and that sometimes our voice are just useless. Cat/pet A life lesson how the little things are actually the biggest thing we have in life and that we should be aware that we're not the only Life forms on the universe. Try to think that your pet is a living proof there are more life forms humanity probably will never discover. Genre adherence Mild horror, but highly deserved to be a mystery as well. Personal theory I'm convinced that Frank Green is dead and that the heart was either his or Dr. Perez's. Dr. Henry Smith also next in line to be targeted by Cthulhu because obviously his team in Massachusette will fall prey as well and that the anomaly will plague America too."
