Chapter 1
“Bye, see you tomorrow,” said my best friend Phoenix, with his brown hair shining in the sunlight. As I waved goodbye to him, I had a sickening feeling in my stomach, but I couldn’t figure out why, so I ignored it.
As I got off the bus, I saw smoke. I looked around to see where it was coming from, and I screamed when I found out where. I dropped my backpack and ran towards my house. The fire was coming from my house, and my dad’s car was in the driveway, which meant he was inside the house.
As I got closer to the house, I could hear someone from inside the house, screaming for help. I soon realized it was my dad’s scream that I was hearing. I ran faster than I had ever run in my life towards my house. When I got to the door, I opened it really fast, immediately, I saw that the entire house has been filled with smoke. I noticed that the screaming got louder.
“DAD!!!” I screamed, trying to find where he was.
“COURT!!!” my dad screamed out of fear, hoping someone will come and save her. My dad must be in the attic, I thought. I tried to find the stairs, but it was kind of hard, since I couldn’t even see where I was going because the house was filled with so much smoke, and as soon as I found them, I saw where the fire was coming from.
The smoke was coming from the attic. There is no way I can get up there without getting seriously burnt, I thought to myself.
“HELP!!!” I heard my dad scream from above me, bringing me back to reality. I ran out and called 911. When the call was over, I went back into the house, and called out to my dad. No response. I called out again, but louder. Still, no response. I kept calling out to him, seeing if he was going to answer, but he never responded.
The next thing I know, someone is grabbing my shoulder, and pulling me back, towards them. I look behind me with tears strolling down my face, and I see a Firefighter. I look around, and as one of them is pulling me backwards, out of the house, a couple of them run by us with huge hoses, into the house.
