New York, the city of luxurious apartment , exclusive shops , dazzling Broadway shows and high flying tycoons, the city is the land where opportunity lies or so people think.
To me it’s the city of chaos, depression, unaffordable rent, bunch of fake people and fake friends , unbearable traffic, bustling road and so much more.
And in this jungle lies the most wealthiest and prestigious companies in the world, Knight industries. It’s the same company where I’d been working for years at the HR section of the company and enduring out hyperactive manager’s pep talks’’.
‘’ Our manager’s at it again claiming we shape the company’s future,’’ I muttered as our manager rallied the team. ‘We either train them well to stay or to leave ,’’ she declared , raising her hands dramatically
‘’We are –‘’ she raised her hands up ‘ the human resources department. She gave out a cry and everyone in the office clapped halfheartedly to avoid her wrath but already exhausted with her rubbish.
Oh my gosh” the embarrassment I feel for her every single day. I just can’t…”Alexia shook her head
There is nothing new . our beloved manager is going crazy” Liam stretched his arm and legs getting ready for another busy day.
The other department call us freaks because of her” Liam said as I sat on my chair in between him and Alexia
Alexia slipped up, blurting out ,’’The marketing department calls us a bunch of crazy and weird people.” Unfortunately the manager overheard and scowled before approaching us menacingly .” Don’t you ever utter such nonsense in here , or I will make sure to report you to the chief”, she threatened
Sorry ma’am,” we chorused.
“I told you she has super powers “ alexia said next to me. I swear she isn’t human . I bet she is an alien”
“Alexia quiet , the chief is coming “I told her seeing the chief walking towards the elevator.
Our chief/CHRO is the head of the department and the only reason we all her still alive and sane. He’s a nice guy and the only person who can shut the mouth of our one and only manager. He was the one person who would keep our manager in check , a kind man in his sixties who cherishes his family above all else.
“Good morning everyone “ He greeted with a warm smile . “ I see y’all are working very hard. Sorry if I’ve interrupted you.
‘’Awwn my heart is melting ‘’ Alexia swooned . ‘Why does he have to be 40 years older than me ?
Age is not a barrier ‘’ Liam whispered
I know but he is happily married “Alexia lamented
I never said he is not “ Liam retorted
Alexia leaned forward and looked at Liam “Then why are you so worked up ? Don’t tell you are into older women now .
“Guys shut up” I intervened .” Chief is talking .
They shut their mouth and focused on what chief was saying.
“Today all executive have a meeting with Mr. Knight to give a monthly report” The smile on chief face fell. “ But unfortunately my secretary could not make it today’’
I immediately stiffened and I could see everyone else exchanging frightened glances. We knew exactly what he was going to say but we didn’t want to hear it.
“So I was hoping one of you will volunteer “
Our CEO also known as Mr. Damien Knight is a man you never wish to meet. He’s the hot handsome to everyone except the Knight industries employees. To us he’s the devil.
He’s the chairman son and also one of the most leading business tycoons in the world. The company was passed down to him when he was 23 years and it has been successful since then, not a single failure.
The only main difference he has from other tycoons is that he is cold and vey silent. He picks he’s word while speaking and only talk to those who he deems important . The others are like dirt under his feet “. He hates when people make noises or do something out of subject.
You can only make a sound if he allows you to but if not be ready to pack your bags . The good thing is that he never embarrasses you nor scold or shout at you but be ready to receive a call or letter from our humble department , the HR department the very same day.
Even breathing in front of him or beside him can get you fired. So yeah he’s very popular for firing people.
In knight industries , the most dangerous job you can have is the secretary job. And it’s not just as Mr. knight secretary but has any of the executive secretary.
Mr. Brian Kingston, Mr. Knight secretary is his best friend so that position is out of question but if you get a job as any of the executive secretary you have To meet Mr. Knight constantly and that can result in you getting fired.
Any volunteer?”
My mind came back to what chief was saying
Anyone? “ He asked hopefully but I knew no matter how nice the chief can be to us no of us was ready to risk our jobs.
“Liam you go “Our manager called and Liam looked up in horror
“umm ….. ouch” he bent forward clutching his stomach . “ ma I have the flu and really bad stomach ache that has been making me use the toilet regularly. “I don’t think I can go”.
The manager turned and glanced at me .” Jessie ,you go then.
I turned to her in horror
Excuse me ?” I asked in shock.
The manager frowned at me . “ Are you questioning me Miss Bells ?”
No, I’m not ma’am, but ………. I couldn’t find a lie to tell because I was very bad at lying
“Go then”
I couldn’t say no so I stood up reluctantly.
“Jessie it's s so nice that you can come with me “ The chief smiled at me . Let’s go then before Mr. Knight gets mad’’
Okay sir ‘’ I hissed out
Okay let’s go then ‘’ the chief smiled.
I faked a smile and followed him to the top floor .’’ Just as the elevator was about to open on the executive floor , I prayed to God to make this meeting a success .
“But even though I wasn’t going to do anything hard I feared I would trip and fall in front of Mr. Knight because I tend to be clumsy when anxious’’.
The elevator bell dinged indicating we have gotten to the top floor . The CEO floor .He has his own staffs on his floor .
We walked to the end of the hall where the meeting room is. One side of the room is a complete class wall. How fascinating
The head of other department started filling into the room and took their seat at the table, the secretaries staying behind their respective chiefs and I immediately did the same.
After everyone was seated I saw a much more handsome and young man coming in.’’ He looked up at the executive and the breath in my throat hitched.
It was Damien Knight . In the 2 years I have worked for knight industries I have never seen him this close before. It was always far away at an event or on the magazines.
And up close he was drop dead gorgeous . He had black hair with captivating deep blue eyes, a prominent chiseled jaw curved gracefully among the strength of his neck. He was more than 6ft tall with well proportional physique exuding confidence and charisma.
He strode towards the front of the room and pulled back his chair to sit. Our chief was sitting next to the head chair meaning I was standing directly next to Damien Knight .
And seeing him up close I did the worst thing I knew I was going to regret.
I sneezed.
