"This is a hearty and wholesome story - not in the 'Little house on the Prairie' style wholesome - but in the sense that it leaves you feeling satisfied at the end. The heroine seems to favour a stoic persona on the outside, fears from the past keeping her from allowing people to access her emotional side, or forming bonds that she feels might be compromised. This coldness is permitted to affect how she treats herself and especially her wolf, who is kept barred from the outside world. Personally, I like her character development, it is a slow burn and could only be grasped in its entirety at the end of the book. The people she gets involved with, are all either involved with the main plot focus of the book, or get involved because of association, so although there are many characters, none of them are needlessly floating about. The male lead is a real treat, and surprisingly human in his decision making. All in all, the book has ample guesswork, betrayal, twists and turns to keep one busy, while the undercurrent dealing with acceptance of self, need and love plays out in the background. A lovely story, with a bit of violence. The only thing that struck me as something that might need attention, is at the end, where someone close to her dies. Both her and the family don't seem particularly phased by it and although the story line does not permit much space for maneuvering here, it seems a bit unnatural. That is only my opinion, though.. Good work overall!"
