Ch-1-Some Day Huh?

CHAPTER [1] — [Some Day, Huh?]

Word Count: [2806]

POV: [Elizabeth]

Time: [Morning]

Summary:[Elizabeth goes through her daily motions until it’s all interrupted by reckless heroes.]

⎯⎯⎯ ✦ ✦ ✦ ⎯⎯⎯

I expected to wake up to the same silence I do every day, but instead, I heard the pitter-patter of rain beating just outside my window.

Slowly I open my eyes and look towards the alarm on my desk to the right, thinking it would ring any moment now, but I guess I woke up early again.

Furthermore, I imagine why I kept it. It could be because it was a present. Or because I liked to see if I could beat the time when waking up.

I force myself to get up and head to the bathroom, mumbling words.

For some reason, I am a little grumpy today. I am almost always a grump, but today I felt like shit. I slip into the shower after brushing my teeth and washing my face. I would say I was in there for about an hour, and I stepped out and suddenly felt a sharp pain ripping through my stomach.

I groaned and almost fell to the floor.

The only thing holding me up was my shaking form, leaning over the sink. The sink that I had caught mid-fall. It burned and hurt so much, but as soon as it came. It left.

With me standing there. A heavy heart, a painful headache, and confusion about what happened.

My mind raced through the possibilities of what that horrible pain meant for me.

What if I had a disease? What if I die? I mean, was that so bad? I exited the bathroom with a huff and wrapped in a towel.

Just forget about it, I thought.

It was dumb to ignore it, but if it is my time, it is my time to go. I slowly walked back into my room, and I was sure I looked like someone who needed a cane. Shifting around and limping around the house, wondering if that pain would come back from any sudden movements.

I slipped my clothes on as quickly as possible, which wasn’t fast.

After getting dressed, I moved to the kitchen and made myself a quick breakfast. I love food. Anyone who doesn’t love food is an alien. ( A bad one.)

When my food is done, I walk over to the couch, sit, and watch the news. (Yes, I am twenty-three, and have nothing better to do than watch the news, what about it?)

Anyway, I flip the channels until I can find something. Currently, I am watching a hero fight a villain, and yes, I did say that. I forgot to mention that I live in a world where superheroes and villains exist.

I have a terrible memory.

Back to what I was thinking, people have powers, and we all know what happens when the wrong people have too much power. Absolute chaos it was, a bunch of silly men and women running around in costumes.

I honestly could never find myself talking to them.

The video shows a so-called “hero” hitting a villain repeatedly, and if it weren’t so brutal, I think I would be laughing. I think. The beating goes on for a while, and I start to wonder if they ever get bored of this. It’s all so repetitive. (Beat, eat, repeat.)

I don’t think a hero should be beating up a villain this bad, but it’s whatever, I guess.

A few broken bones never hurt anyone, have they?

I would not let them film that.

My alarm on my phone goes off, and at the same time, I hear the alarm from my room go off. I cleaned up a little and put my shoes on along with my coat. After shutting off both alarms and turning the television off, I leave my apartment.

Locking the door as I walk out, I take out my phone and check the time. I see it’s seven and I rush down the stairs of the building, almost bumping into my good old friend Tom. I didn’t stop as I usually would on weekends, and I assume he knew this.

So with no words, but a quick tap on the shoulder from him, I left. Tom’s a nice old man that I met when I first moved here two years back. We don’t talk much, but he’s pretty cool for a person his age.

I start making my way to my college campus. On the way I pull out my phone again, but this time I also take my earbuds out.

I walk down the sidewalks for a while and play random music through my phone. After a while, I came to a stop at a big crossing. At least twenty other people are waiting for the light to turn.

My walk will take a long time, but I like the distance. It’s good exercise, and sometimes I get to see fights. They’re kind of interesting. Soon enough the lights change green, and everyone starts moving. I guess people are in more of a rush today.

I start moving, and someone from behind me bumps into me. My phone slips from my hands, and I look up to see the person running off. That was rude, even if you’re in a rush. I don’t have the time, or energy to chase after that punk. I crouch down and pick my phone up.

Somehow my earbuds fell out too. I pick those up, and I look around and see everyone is almost across the street. Some of them stay back, and I see why now. A hero is fighting a villain, and just like on television, there are unnecessary hits. He should just end it already instead of stalling.

I need to hurry up, even though the streets are empty.

I begin walking again but stop when I hear an annoying screeching sound. It grows louder, and as I turn to my right, I see why. Just my luck huh?

At this point, I am in the middle of this big street, and there’s a huge fucking bus on its side, sliding towards me, and it’s coming fast.

I hate heroes.

I clenched my fists, and I suddenly felt a familiar feeling that I get sometimes. My body is frozen, but not with fear. I try to force myself to move, but nothing happens.

This is the absolute worst day ever.

I blinked, and my vision clouded with grey, and just as the bus was about to hit me, everything went blurry.

I closed and opened my eyes to see that I’d been snatched.

Off the fucking ground.

I have to admit out of all the things I thought would never happen in my life, this one is in my top ten.

At the moment I am in the arms of someone, and I don’t know who. “Put me down,” I said feeling a little nauseous, and uncomfortable with being in the arms of an unknown person.

They silently fly across the street with me and place me down so my back is towards them.

I turn around to see that the person who flew me here is a girl.

“Why were you just standing in the middle of the road, you almost got killed?” She said, a little annoyance showing on her masked-covered face. I ignored her question and took some time to look at her.

My eyes met hers, and I know it’s weird to say this, but she has beautiful eyes. I rolled my eyes and spoke softly to her.

“I wasn’t standing in the middle of the road I was crossing it”. I say getting a little irritated at the hero who caused that accident in the first place. I looked around not wanting to look at the hero anymore and saw that we were on a roof.

I can’t believe this, I am here on a roof, wasting time talking to a hero. A beautiful-eyed hero, but a hero still. She’s wearing an outfit that’s not as bad as the other heroes. She still wears her mask, but it doesn’t do much because I can see her eyes, her hair color, her mouth, and pretty much everything below the nose.

I didn’t realize it, but my eyes had gravitated back to her face. Or better yet her lips. I snapped out of whatever trance she had me in when she began talking once again. “Hey, are you okay?” She says with concern flowing through her sentence.

What am I thinking right now?

I have to get out of here. This hero is making me act weird.

“Do I look okay? Look, you can just go back to doing whatever your heroes do, and I’ll go back to my life. Cya.” I say walking towards the opposite side of the roof of the building, deciding I don’t want to talk any longer.

I checked my phone for the time and saw that this whole ordeal took me 15 minutes of my time. I start to mumble about how I dislike every one who has slowed me down today with a passion. I only realized that the hero whom I thought would’ve left by now, was still here when she spoke up.

“What are you late for? I can take you there since it was my partner who caused the bus accident. He tends not to take precautions; we could take my car if flying isn’t for you”. She must’ve heard my rant.

I look at her and then at the time on my phone. I mean would I take a ride from a hero?

I look back up at her for a few seconds trying to figure out why she’s still here. I interrupted my thoughts.

“No thanks. Sure, I’ll be late for the first time if I don’t make it, thanks to you guys, but I’m fine I’ll find a way to get there in time, like always.” I say in one breath, then I turn to leave when she speaks up.

“Well, it’s our fault you’re about to be late so I could take you wherever you are trying to go.” She said suddenly coming up behind me.

I merely ignored her as I continued my way down the building, and back onto my path toward campus. She rambled on, and on, about how she could help, of course, I never once stopped, but after a while, I had enough.

I turned around sharply, and I probably shouldn’t have done that, because I didn’t know that she was so close behind me and the second I turned around she bumped into me, and we fell. I think.

After seconds of waiting for impact, I opened my eyes that I previously closed because I thought I was going to fall with her landing on me.

When I opened them, I found a pair of green eyes staring into mine, with her arms around my waist. She’s close, and I can feel her breath against me, and I’m sure she can feel mine.

I guess she caught me before I fell. I open my mouth to speak after a while of us standing there, but get interrupted by her, again.

“I’m not going to stop following you until you let me take you wherever you need to go”. That whole sentence right there, did not sound very hero-like.

I look to the side out of what I can only hope to assume is embarrassment. I groan and try to wiggle out of her embrace, I huff when I can’t. I should’ve known, she’s a hero. Then again, I liked where I was right now.

I shake out of my weird thoughts once again and look over at her again.

She’s smiling at me, and God she’s beautiful.

I give up, we’ve walked for a while now, and from a car, this rest of the way probably took 25 minutes. “Fine, I’m going to my campus, can you let me go now?” I say, with each word, I get quieter.

She agrees with a small nod and slowly backs away from me. The feeling of her breathing near me leaves, and her hands slip from my waist. She told me to wait while she went and got her car. I know I could’ve just left at this point, but something inside of me couldn’t bring myself to move.

So, I took a seat on a bench nearby. When she came back, I hesitated, but in the end, I got in the car. After a minute of silence, she spoke.

“So, how much time do you have left till you are officially late?” She asked while looking toward the road. I pull out my phone and look at the time.

I quietly answered.

“About 25 more minutes. “I look at her, as she nods, and we sit in silence for a while. Not an awkward silence, but I guess she still wanted to talk to me.

“So, do you or anyone you know have powers?” I shift so my body is facing away from hers, while she still has her eyes on the road.

“I don’t talk to people much”. I am trying to change the subject. We soon come to a stop at a red light, and she turns her head towards me, eying me.

I want to know what she’s thinking. Does she know I was trying to change the subject?

I try to turn away from her gaze even though I’m at the furthest I can go, and out of the side of my eye, I see she turns to.

The rest of the drive we talked a little more and then we made it to my campus. I unbuckle my seatbelt, and I turn to her, but I find her not in her seat. I heard a knock on the window and jumped a bit. I turn to my right and find the hero standing there.

She opened the door and backed up a little so I could get out.

When I step out, I close the door.

We’re pretty close right now so I back up. She sees this and comes a little bit closer.

“Well thanks for the ride, goodbye now,” I say with a rushed tone.

I’m about to walk away when she speaks up and speaks. “Wait, I didn’t get to ask your name”. I let out a sigh, as I stopped for a bit and turned around.

“Why would you ever need my name, we’ll most likely never see each other again,” I say. I almost felt a little sad. She’s a hero though, and heroes only cause drama.

“Plus, I don’t know your name, so why should you know mine?” I say, about to turn around again, but she softly grabs my wrist and begins to speak.

“Then can I get your number, wouldn’t want you standing on any more roads”. She says with a smile and a teasing tone in her voice. At that, I can’t help but groan loudly. I was not standing in the middle of the road, but I am pretty sure she knew that.

“I was crossing the street not standing there, and you know it,” I say, with a little smile beginning to show on my face. After that, we’re quiet again.

“You have a beautiful smile, stranger,” she said, looking me in the eyes. I felt my entire body heat up, the moment she said those words, and without putting much thought into it, I spoke up.

“Well so do you” In any other situation I would’ve felt immediate regret when those words fell through my mouth, but right now it felt like the right thing to say.

Her face turned a light pink, and I don’t think she anticipated me saying that.

I look around, and I probably only have a few more minutes to get to class. I turned back towards her, and we made eye contact for a while until I decided to speak.

“I’ll give you my number, and I’ll make sure to not stand on any more roads”. I mumbled the last part. Her eyes lit up a little when I passed her my phone, she typed something in fast.

She handed my phone back to me and our hands touched briefly. I am a little surprised that they’re soft. (Considering her line of work) As I looked down to check where she put her number, I could feel her eyes burning into me. I look up at her and raise my eyebrow.

The name she put for herself shows, “Your Savior ❤️️ “.

“I have to go to class now, by the way, my name’s Elisabeth,” I said while looking at her beautiful green eyes.

She nods, and I turn around feeling her eyes on me until I’m inside the building.

This day was something. I think, walking in the building.
