Prologue
I'm floating on my back, my tail glistening in the sun, my mind is at peace but still alert. I know the ocean will protect me for I am the daughter of the sea. A small smile creeps onto my face I'm officially 200 and allowed to stray, not only away from my parents but the pod as well, for at 100 your parents have less say and control over you, at 200 no one has a say in anything other than pod rules so I am free to leave, this is the happiest years for any young mermaid. My head bobs in the water as my body gets carried by the gentle waves. I do a gentle backward dive into the water and open my eyes, I swim for a little while till I see a rock, an algae-covered rock, I pull myself onto the rock, leaning back I close my eyes allowing the breeze to blow through my hair… when I hear men laughing, my eyes swing open, and I slowly and quietly lower myself into the water, while looking over the rock there are more humans than usual! there usually aren't this many humans in one place. Something is off. They’ve been growing in size recently and I don't think that is a good thing. I have to tell the pod, we might be in danger!
