Chapter 01

If you want something so hard, you can't even imagine, how much it beats you down, if you don't get it. This is the case of Alexis Clifford. You would say, she had it all. Job, boyfriend, still some family members… But behind this was too much suffering. She was killing herself with her overthinking. Her relationship was based on her convincing ability. She tried to convince herself, she was happy. She loved her boyfriend. They were together for almost nine years and lived in their house for two. They wanted a baby, but… Alexis had her health issues. She was chubby with back problems. Everybody told her, if she loses weight, everything will be okay. Her confidence was so low, she even liked the internet scums complimenting her. Even if she knew, they were just using her insecurity.

Her life was a little harder. No father to raise her. Her mother met a few men, but stuck with one really bad one. So Alexis' grandmother stepped in and raised her.  They were best friends. Same temper. Hot shots. But they could tell each other everything. She had her grandfather as a father figure and her mothers brother. But sometimes love doesn't solve every problem. They fought a lot. The family was never perfect. Alexis never knew the picture perfect family. She had problems keeping friends. She was so scared to let anybody in. She got to the point, she thought, she was cursed. After her grandma died she lost last hope. She got closer to her uncle, but her mother made her life a living hell. She was a drunk with the need to put every bad thing on somebody else but her.

Alexis escaped that, when she moved in with her boyfriend. Sort of. She loved her mother, but never forgave the man, who took her mummy away for so long, when she needed the mum-person the most. She made the Bc in the day of her grandma's funeral. She won, but lost the joy of it.

Alexis was strong and didn't even realize. She could do her problems big, just because she was overthinking. She did a lot of overthinking. Her ex-boyfriend made her feel less, she never got the confidence back. She didn't see, what she got. Yes, she lost a lot, but she was able to live on. But she was so focused on the loss and misery. It was better for her to blame herself for everything.

Her job was not a great choice. She was underpaid, but it paid the bills. She could do whatever she wanted at work. She could use her time on something productive. She wanted to forget, so she was drinking. She was so scared, she was becoming her mum. But here she was. Scared to death of what is wrong with her. Not looking at the brightside. She needed hope. She wished to be happy. Nothing more, nothing less.

It was another boring day at work. She tried to keep her eyes open. The big world news was, some big guns should come to the place she worked. Her boss didn't tell her, but the boss of the place did. She was curious. Why would somebody want to put their money in this garbage? She was pretending to be working, when the suits came to visit every single one store in the building. When they finally made it into “her” store, she was stunned. The boss was tall, brown hair, beautiful blue eyes, muscular and very handsome. Everything about him radiated power and bad boy testosterone. He was constantly looking at her. She had no idea why.

His name was Jason Whitmore. She knew the name, but never saw the man even in the picture. He never did an interview, or took a photoshoot. He kept his life private. He was something like a phantom. He inherited the empire, after his parents were murdered. He added to this much more in a very short time. Nobody knew how or why. After his parents death, he found the men responsible for their murder. He was surprised they were part of the biggest secret society. The parents were part of it. They protected the legal business against the mafia. They were very powerful, but yet they couldn't stop the killing of their own members. He refused to join them. That didn't change the fact, his parents had a secret.

“They helped one member to get a new life. Another identity. The man is dead now, but he promised his first born female grandchild to your parents. She will become your wife. She never will know about this life. She should be the light for you, if anything would happen to them. We will give you her name, if you join us.”

That did the magic. Jason was cornered. He didn't want any stupid bitch in his life. Let alone not knowing bitch. Yet he agreed to this deal. In a few years, he became a highly rated member. He was the new wind to this old society. He wanted to avoid contact with that girl. In time he found her. He found out everything about her life. He knew her better than anybody. He started to be obsessed with her. So he took action and pretended, he could invest in the shithole, she was working. Now face to face with her, he wanted to keep her away from him. He would destroy her. She was too innocent. He would be much happier, if she was a bitch wanting his money. This girl wasn't like this.

They talked about the store, she showed him around, explained the basic stuff and offered him coffee. She was smiling, but never looked him in the eyes. And not just because of the high issue. She had her eyes level under his breasts. He loved, she had curves. She had brown hair like he did, gray-blue eyes, her skin wasn't perfect, her face wasn't symmetrical and she had braces. He asked her about that, she said, she have them because of the health issue, not because she wants them. He nodested, she has a serious back issue. She had almost no make up, just a mascara on her eyes, eyeliner and some kind of red colored lipstick.

“Hi, Alexis!” Some dude waved at her, she smiled and waved back. Jason felt jealous and his possessive side kicked in. He scared the asshole with just one look. Alexis didn't know.

The time with her was running out. Jason wanted to come up with something to see her again. It wasn't fair, he wanted her. She should have a shot to continue her boring life. That was the moment he decided to act.

“Your grandfather, Mister Clifford… Do you know, where he worked, before he met your grandmother?” Alexis frozen.

“Kind of. My grandmother told me once, he told her a funny story. About me being promised to a very wealthy kid. A man now I suppose. I never had a chance to ask him. He died too soon.”

“I am the man. I came to collect my wife.” Alexis turned to face him. He was dead serious. She started to back up, shaking her head furiously. She was hysterical, mumbling about something like “No, not happening. This isn't true!”. She passed out. Jason caught her in time, so she couldn't hurt herself. He carried her to his car and very gently laid her on the backseat. He took off as a winner.
