En otros cielos que el hombre común aún no entiende ni conoce, un grave desacuerdo entre los dioses desemboca en un guerra celestial y en la caída accidental de sus creaciones: los eternos, en la tierra. Luhna, su creador, comisiona a sus hijos directos: los einheres, para descender a la tierra y recuperar a todos y cada uno de los eternos; en un plan de recolección que se efectuará en dos grandes ciclos cada seiscientos años. Diseñados en pareja, y siempre como almas gemelas, es así como deben retornar a su creador. Sin embargo, cuentan con un enemigo ancestral: La Orden de Acán (los exterminadores de los eternos), existe desde los tiempos del profeta Moisés y los persiguen para darles muerte; intentando frustrar para siempre el plan de recuperación de Luhna. La primera recolección de los eternos ya ha ocurrido, dejando el planeta con consecuencias catastróficas e irreversibles. Ahnyei vive ahora en un mundo postapocalíptico, y es la mitad del último eslabón de una larga cadena de inmortales. Su misión es la más importante de todas: llevar de regreso a casa a todos sus hermanos durante la última recolección, y después destruir la tierra. Sin embargo, ella descubrirá por sí misma, que, contrario a lo que por siglos se ha creído, las almas gemelas no siempre están destinadas a estar juntas y tienen la oportunidad de decidir.
