Summary

ELFRIDA REYNOLDS is a 17-year-old girl with a talent at horse-riding from the Regency era, a time marked by strict social rules and expectations. As a young woman of her age, Elfrida is now required to make her debut in high society, attending balls and events in order to showcase her refinement and suitability for marriage. However, her peaceful life turns chaotic when a redcoat visits her and informs her that her father has gone missing. To make matters worse, the Duke of Brightmore reveals that her father has left a large amount of debt with him, and unless it is paid off, her family's estate and lands will be confiscated. While Elfrida's family is struggling, a tempting offer from the Duke indicates a glimmer of light in a dark void. He promises to dismiss all of her father's debts and even sponsor Elfrida's debut in court. The condition is that she must serve as a spy for the Duke to help him overthrow the new King. This task appears simple enough, she never liked the new monarch anyway, but things become messed up when the King takes a bit too much of a liking to her...
