Maleficnet: mistress of all evil
There is no doubt that cartoons marked the childhood of each of us. We love heroes, princes and princesses, little birds and dwarfs and the songs that accompany them.
But, if we were to look deeper and ask ourselves which characters are the most deeply nestled in our memories, we would agree that the answer would be: villains.
We were afraid of them and they annoyed us, and we cheered for some of them, secretly.
And now, slowly dive back into the paths of your childhood. That’s right, slowly go back with your eyes closed. Now open them without hurry. All around you is a foggy forest, and endless night with threatening moonlight.
You have no choice but to keep going forward. That's it, keep going. O,wait, what's that sound,it is so familiar but frightening at the same time. Is this all a dream or a nightmare?Still, you cannot resist but looking in the shadow in front of you.
Well, tell me...Who is the first villain you meet on the road? Me? I met Maleficent. And now the fear eats my bones.
The original Disney cartoon from 1959 gave birth to an immortal fairy dressed in colors of a black dragon. Witch with yellow eyes, and snake like skin, and, look at that, lips red as a rose.
When she’s not casting curses on newborns, she sits on a throne while a faithful old raven snoozes by her head. And then, seemingly completely unexpectedly, this narcissistic queen has a fit of terrible rage. And again, everything goes in a circle. It’s as if she suddenly gets tired, sighs and complains to her faithful old pet.
Made to counterbalance the three good fairies, she perfectly plays the role she was assigned to play . They are singing and colorful, she is (when she is not raging) monotonous and dark. One of the few villains that does not have its own song. And just the way she is, she succeeds.
With all due respect to the film version and Mrs.Smith (ups, my bad, to Angelina Jolie), the original Maleficent is notorious just because of the way she is, motivated by vanity. She needs neither reasons nor causes.
Yes, movie tried to explain her actions and to give her more of a background, but was it really necessary?
The main reason she is unforgettable is that she is pure evil.
Remember the scene when she taunts Prince Philip? That right there is a clear sign about her psychopathic nature, while taking a sadistic pleasure in his impotence.
In the end, all her built up energy turns into a dragon (or she was always partly a dragon, who knows). A personification of hell. And then, as the culmination of the victory of good over evil, nothing remains of the dragon but a black spot.
And that's another thing.Evil cannot win. That was the message we all grew up.Good always wins. At least in fairy tales.
The infamous end of the famous fairy.
