Prologue
“I’m blaming Charles if I get hypothermia!” Jeremy walked against the wind, the harsh cold nipped at his face, leaving it bright red. Damon was in front of him.
“I told you to bring something to cover your face!” Damon yelled back, the wind howled and pushed his body back, he had to shift his weight forward.
“I didn’t remember!” Jeremy complained.
Damon rolled his eyes, “You don’t remember anything!” He growled.
Jeremy glared at the back of Damon’s head and kept walking; the outline of an aircraft was now visible up ahead. On board was a terminal system to send the data to Charles.
“Just a little more!” Damon yelled, the blizzard was steadily getting worse. A whistle cracked the quiet atmosphere, it seemed like even the howling wind stopped to listen.
“Hand over the hard drive, boys.”
Damon spotted her, the long black hair flowed in front of her.
“It’s a flash drive!” Jeremy yelled back. The two of them had stopped walking. Damon slapped Jeremy across the back of the head; he knew who she was. Jennifer Roswell, also known as Quiet. The adjective was used as a codename due to her work as an assassin and operative for Crypt.
“Leave us be, Quiet!” Damon yelled, he grabbed the automatic rifle that had been slung across his back and readied it.
“I don’t associate with that name any longer. Now give me the drive.” Jennifer stood there waiting.
Damon raised his rifle, “I’m warning you!”
Jennifer sighed and pressed a button on her watch, “And I warned you…” She disappeared from sight.
Damon blinked and then realized their predicament. He groaned, “A cloaking device?!”
Jeremy whined, “That’s not even fai-…” Something struck him in the face. Jeremy stumbled back holding his nose. “Agh!” Damon turned to see Jeremy land face down in the snow, another swift blow coming across his cheek. Damon raised his rifle.
“No guns dear…” All he heard was her voice. Jennifer pushed the rifle and kicked it up against Damon’s throat. He fell back and gasped for air.
“I’m g-good.” Jeremy started to get up again, slowly, but was struck back down by Jennifer’s boot.
Damon regained his breath and stood quickly, “Show yourself and fight like a man!”
Jennifer appeared, “As you wish.” She was directly in front of him. Damon raised his rifle and grinned. He had her now. Jennifer ran straight towards him and took a penny out of her vest pocket; Damon aimed and felt a piece of metal hit him in the center of his head.
He stumbled back and groaned in pain. Jennifer used this opporotunity to clothesline him, sliding his rifle from its sling. Damon was on his back now.
Jeremy got up, he was disoriented. “I got this…” He mumbled. Damon’s rifle smacked him in the head, Jennifer laughed. The rifle landed next to his limp body now.
Jennifer kneeled down next to Damon. “Charles wants the information, so give me the chip.”
Damon stared at Jennifer, processing what she had just said. That penny must’ve caused a slight concussion. Or her boss was coincidentally named Charles as well.
“Charles?” Damon actually wished it was a different man.
“Our boss?” Jennifer grinned.
“What the hell?!” Damon was helped up by Jennifer, he was slightly pissed at her now. “You laid my ass out twice and possibly gave Jeremy even more brain damage just for fun??”
“What? I asked nicely.” Jennifer laughed.
Damon sighed and shook his head, in disagreement. He walked over and picked up Jeremy with Jennifer’s help. “Let’s get to that plane.”
