Chapter 1
"Come on, we're going to be late for our flight," Lexie called from the other room.
"Oh hush, I know you're excited, but we have like four hours before the plane even boards,' ' Katherine teased as she grabbed some last-minute items from the bathroom. Her luggage should have been packed and at the door, but leave it to her add brain to forget something at the last minute.
"I'll just be happy when I see that crystal clear water and get to put my feet in the sand. This has been a dream trip for me, you know that" Lexie stated as she fiddled with the tag on her suitcase.
"I know I know me too. I'm finally ready if I forget anything else. I'm sure Hawaii has a copy, " She said as she grabbed her suitcase and raced outside.
Four hours later and the plan was on the move. Katherine chose the window seat much to Lexie's disliking, but what could she do? Oh, that's right, completely lay on her lap and try to take up the entire window view.
"I don't think this is what the captain intended for you to do when he turned the seatbelt sign off Lex," Katherine huffed as she desperately wiggled to get free from Lexies hold.
"Hey, just be lucky they put in coach or I would have been on some other stranger's lap," She said with a flirtatious smile.
"Did you see the guy up there he was just dreamy," She cooed as she twirled a stray hair around her finger.
"Lex, you are such a -" her words were cut short by a sudden loud sound that one could only describe as an explosion.
It felt as though the plane hit a brick wall mid-air, and the first thought she had was terrorists. The force of the impact was so strong that it sent bodies flying through the air, including her friend. She screamed out for her and tried to reach for her, but she was pulled away with such force it was like a blink of an eye, and she was gone. Well, most of her anyway. The sudden warmth pouring out into her lap caused her to glance down where she saw Lexie's lower torso still laying across her.
How she processed any of this with the speed of events happening around her was unreal. The plane was now in a nose dive straight down, but the front of the plane was gone. It was ripped clean off, and that made her next few moments even worse. It was bad enough that she was going to die, but to be forced to stare at the ground until she hit was torture.
The plane smashed the ground so hard it left a ten foot crater in its place. The plane was face down half embedded in dirt. The initial impact should have killed her. The crash into the ground should have killed her, but somehow, she was still alive. dust and smoke began to fill the small space that she occupied. The strong stench of gasoline filled her nostrils, and that's when she finally realized the plane was going to blow. There were electrical cables hanging at the bottom part of the plane, and gas was slowly seeping towards it. She quickly fumbled for her seatbelt, pulling the buckle and planning to fall to the seat in front of her, but that's not what happened.
Pain shot through her side as a blood curdling scream left her throat. The seat her friend was residing in had gotten twisted, and the arm rest was bent going through her stomach and sticking into the back of the seat. She was trapped and didn't know if she was going to succumb to her injuries or burn first. Neither idea was pleasant.
"HELP!!!!" she screamed out, desperate for someone to help her. The feeling of heat began to fill the cabin as she glanced out her cursed window seat, only to be staring flames directly in the eyes.
"HEL- ' her scream was cut short by the blood that rushed to her lips and spewed out onto the seat in front of her. Tears streamed her cheeks as she began to feel faint. She wanted to fight, to live, to be able to escape the nightmare hell she was facing. Surely someone will come, she thought to herself as she coughed up yet more blood.
It was what seemed to be another ordinary day in Soprannaturale. The sun was shining down, and the weather was warm. Tropical climate like that of Hawaii minus the threat of natural disasters. Everyone was having a good time, well maybe the supernaturals were. The same couldn’t be said for the humans who were bound to work as slaves until their death. But, the ones in power get to make the rules.
Jaxon was sitting on a rather large boulder, overlooking the ocean whilst flirting with one of his many hookups. If he wasn’t getting into trouble, he was ravaging vampire girls and other supernaturals inside. Call him a playboy, but he cared little for actual relationships, even amongst his own family. He was truly the outsider, but that was by his own design.
“Why don’t you stop with the games, Lyn? I don’t see anyone around so-“. Jaxon is immediately cut off by the loudest explosion he’s ever heard. High above in the sky, a plume of black smoke and flame comes crashing down onto the beach just a few hundred yards away from Jaxon. The sound was as loud as a thousand nuclear bombs going off at once. The entire island must’ve heard. His first reaction was intrigue, but quickly anger filled his veins. How did a plane break through the barrier? It was impossible?!
The plane was broken in many pieces, most of the small ones crashing into the ocean, but the main hull upright on the beach. Lyn looked at Jaxon with shock on her face as Jaxon stood. Always on the lookout for trouble and with his blood boiling, he wanted to see who was responsible. “I’ll be back..”. His tone is low and almost grunt-like.
Jaxon took off and dashed to the fireball wreckage. The sound of the flames overbearing, but with his superior hearing, he made out what sounded like a plea. Someone was alive. “Aghhhhh!” He groaned out and jumped up into the burning shell. The wreckage was like a painting, one that depicted gore. His eyes scanned the wreckage for that one voice he heard, and he found it.
A woman stuck in her seat with the entire hull, a burning inferno around her. Without hesitation or even a second guess, Jaxon made his way to the woman and freed her from the seat. He lifted her up and carried her in the bridal position. He escaped with her from the wreckage. Did the notorious human hater just save one? Indeed, but there was more here that had yet to be discovered.
As Jaxon’s feet hit the sand, a crowd had formed on the beach. Commoners and guards alike. His own mother had arrived at the scene, and seeing a survivor, she leaped into action. “Here! Give her to me!” The Queen demanded, to which Jaxon complied. A guard took Katherine from Jaxon, and like smoke in the wind, the guard and the Queen disappeared back to the castle. If her life were to be saved, it was now up to the royal doctors in the castle.
The sounds of metal scraping pierced her ears in the most painful way. It was like nails on a chalkboard but worse. The only good thing coming from that noise must have meant help had arrived. A figure entered the wreckage, but with all the smoke, she couldn't quite make it out. She didn't know what happened exactly except the sudden tingles on her skin as the figure now held her bridal style. His smell was intoxicating and somehow overpowered the gasoline in the air. It was like morning dew and sea salt mixed together in the most pleasant of ways. The pain in her body subsided, and she breathed out a sigh of relief, but it was short-lived.
Before she knew it, she was removed from his arms, and already she felt cold again. The pain came back in full force as she cried out in disapproval. The air around her moved fast and took what little air she had left away from her as the Queen rushed through the forest. Spots dotted her vision as she thought she saw a large castle coming into view before everything went black.
"What the hell happened? Here, put her on the table. we need to get that shrapnel out of her and see what damage has been done. " Dr James rushed out as he looked over the girl.
He ripped her shirt open, revealing her porcelain like skin and the occasional scar along her body. Those would have to be questioned later, he told himself as he took in the main problem.
"Get me an x-ray stat and call Natasha. She may need to help heal her. " James ordered one of his staff before he began to wash up. there was no time to rush her to an OR, and there was certainly no time to knock her out. Thankfully, the pain seemed to do that part for him.
The x-ray was taken and revealed that the shrapnel tore through her large intestine and impaled her appendix. Thankfully, the wounds would be able to be repaired, but the problem was the amount of blood she had lost and will lose when he removes the metal. Even with donor blood, it might not be enough to save her.
Natasha burst through the doors moments later and nearly fell over as she stumbled to a halt. Her eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. The girl shouldn't be alive yet there she was with a large wound yes but she's alive.
"Good, you're here. I need you to try and control the metal extraction as I try to tie off the bleeds, " He said as he grabbed a scalpel. Natasha nodded, and they got to work.
Hours later, the surgery was finally done, and Katherine only woke and passed out again a handful of times. She was now in the pack ICU, and James was not even sure she would survive. She lost so much blood, and her heartbeat was slow.
"Yes, I know but...I understand that, yes, but..." James could be heard in the office trying to negotiate with the king to give her girl blood, but he wasn't having it.
"She's the sole survivor, and without her, we won't get answers." James rushed out all at once.
As the Queen and her guard left with the bleeding woman, another guard took control of the situation. “Let’s go! Clear the flames, and let’s see what we can find in this wreckage. And you, get Trent and see what he can find up at the barrier.” The nameless guard ordered as one left to find Trent, Trent being the captain of the guards here in Soprannaturale.
The crowd watched in intrigue as the guards took over cleaning the wreckage. Jaxon watched in intrigue as well, glancing down at his hands, which were covered in blood. Not just any ordinary blood but human blood. It was a sickening sight that he could only scoff at. “Fucking humans…”. He pushes his way through the crowd, heading back to the castle no doubt. For the first time in forever, something interesting stumbled upon Soprannaturale.
Back in the pack ICU, Katherine was resting in her bed but the real conversation was about her survival. James and the King having a heated debate to which the King was not budging on. “I said NO James!” King Victor shouted, his tone no longer soft and gentle. The two weren’t alone, Queen Emilia was present along with a couple of high council members. Natasha included.
“Sir… if we can keep her alive then we can get answers. She broke through the barrier my lord! She has visible markings on her! She survived something no human should have.” James was pleading now at this point but the King stood firm. “No…-“ “Yes.” Queen Emilia buts in and cuts Victor off which raises the eyebrows of everyone present.
“James, give her the blood and keep her alive. Dismissed.” James nods and leaves the room to Victor's disapproval. “Walk with me.” And with that, the King and Queen walked together to speak on the matter as James rushed to get a blood transplant working.
“Let’s get to work! Blood transplant now!” James shouted at his staff as Natasha watched on in intrigue. The items were brought into the room and soon enough, Katherine was hooked up with tubes.
Dark red blood entered her veins and began to replenish what was lost in the trauma. James watched on as the color slowly began to surface in Katherine’s face. A smile formed on his face. “Yes… yes… come back to reality miss.” James was overjoyed, mainly because he could now get answers to his many questions.
“Are you seeing this Natasha? This will change the fate of Soprannaturale forever. The things we will learn from her… it will be my greatest discovery.” He even let out a chuckle to which Natasha smiled in return. “It truly will… but will it be for the better or worse remains to be seen..”.
Warmth grew within Katherine as the blood began to filter into her bloodstream. It flowed through her stitching together her organs better than James ever could. It vitalized her and within moments her skin began to darken to a peachy color. The blood flushed her cheeks and taking everyone by surprise she suddenly sprung up right with a gasp.
Her eyes darted around the room taking note of the dr and strange woman observing her like a monkey in a cage. She heard the soft beeping of the machine next to her and she slowly began to relax. She was in a hospital and she must have been on some good drugs because pain was non existent.
"What happened? Where's Lexie?" She asked, seeming to have blocked out the memories of the plane crash. Clearly her fragile human mind was too weak to process her friend's death right now.
