Chapter 1

If she hadn't experienced it, Melissa wouldn't have believed it. She was constantly in doubt of the experience - despite having survived numerous dangerous events.

The pool party disaster wasn't supposed to happen but it did. She had been angry when Felix had been talking to someone. He was supposed to be her boyfriend. He wasn't meant to ditch her. Ever. Especially not now, the anniversary of her mother's death.

She glanced around, fists furled in disgust and her lips pouting in anger.

It wasn't long before a stream burst up from the pool. Like a reverse waterfall. Everyone was splashed except for Mel. She had been as dry as the Sahara.

She flipped her hair over her shoulder and exited the party, acting as if nothing had happened and leaving everyone gasping in awe.

"Is it done?" The man was in black, his blue shoes being the only color of his uniform. He smirked as he came out from behind the pillars of the brick fence.

"It is." Mel grinned wickedly. She seemed more intense and powerful than the previous year. The woman that had once been a naive writer was more mischievous.

"Good." He walked towards the graveyard, a mile away from the aforementioned party. His cloak waved in the chilly spring air.

The air smelled like cinnamon and lilacs. Mel grinned as memories of writing conferences filled her head. Memories that she had to now fend off. What once was may no longer be again.

She was in a battlefield with her publisher as they blatantly refused to pay her for having sold several hundred copies of her book within these last few hours.

She followed the male. "You never told me your name."

"For now, that does not matter, my dear."

"But surely you have one?" She was twenty five now, still with the curiosity of a child. When she didn't know someone's name, especially this man, it nagged at her.

"Yes. Everyone has a name. But as long as I'm your teacher, mine does not matter. You know, with the way your powers are increasing, it might be time." He glanced sideways at her, his pale face no longer covered by the cloak.

"Already? But it's not that date yet. It's not the date she died. I can't bring her back until then."

"What if you didn't have to? What if you could time travel? I've been meaning to find the right opportunity to teach you the new time travelling spell. It appeared in the spell book three days ago."

She laughed and shook her head. Then turned around. "Unfortunately one of the downfalls of being a college student in a private college means I need to be back by curfew. And that's in," She paused to glanced at her watch, discovering it was 10:30 already. "Half an hour. I can't follow you, cast a spell and be back on campus before curfew. It's impossible."

"What's impossible is that attitude. Convincing yourself something is impossible is going to make it exactly that."

Melissa rolled her eyes and headed back for campus. It would be a long walk, but worth it. For in her dorm, she had candles and her own spell book. Though heeding her teacher's warning, she no longer wanted to stop her mother's death.

As she approached campus and eyes the massive building, similar to a castle with ivy climbing it's walls, she sighed. Being in college was nice, sure but being in a college specializing in her kind of magic would be nice! Considering the fact that until last year she didn't know that magic was a thing, she doubted that would happen. Especially since her magic was disastrous most of the time.

The dorm supervisor rushed out, her dress whipping in the wind as she stood there with her hands on her hips. "Where do you think you have been? It's past curfew!"

She gulped and shook a bit in fear. Sure she was a witch, but Ms. Gwen terrified everyone within Brexbury Hall. In fact, it was her fault that half the Seniors in the hall had moved to others.

"Sorry I was just-"

"No excuses! Get in your room before I call the headmaster!" Her angry voice could be heard on the second floor of the

hall. This was obvious when several Juniors came wandering down to see what was amiss.

"Should have known it was you!" The head student sneered at her, coming out from the middle of the crowd, pushing and shoving his way to the front, like an elementary school teacher. He looked utterly ticked, his mouth in a pouting like shape, though he was not doing such.

"I expect you to report to headmaster Davis' office in the morning, Melissa. This is the third missed curfew this week."

She got ready to give an excuse. Then smirked and laughed. Storming off to her dorm, she dare not say another word. Luckily, she had a single. The only single on the first floor, in fact.

She slammed her door closed and grabbed out her grimoire from underneath her mattress. She turned to a revenge spell. "I will make them pay." Melissa promised out loud.
