Amy's POV:
I felt exhausted, my sand yellow hair dirty and matted. The sounds of shooting and fighting was close, the smell of death laying heavily in the air. I held Emily's hand tight as I led her to a safer place, but I didn't know where. I new I was bleeding and bruised, and that Emily would be worried for me, but I had to keep moving. I couldn't loose her, not to war, not like this. We weren't even fighting, we had no one there to protect us since the army soldiers and stopped to join their comrades.
"Amy, where are we going to go..?" Emily asked me, but I had no answer. I sighed heavily and pushed on.
"Amy?"
"I don't know, somewhere safe for you!" I yell over the nose, but I don't think Emily heard me despite how loud I was being.
We reached the steep hill that lead out of the town. I looked at my exhausted sister who was staring at the hill like it was an opposing warrior. I picked her up and carried her as I began ascending up the steep hill.
"You don't need to carry me..." Emily muttered, but she clung to me as tight as her tired arms could.
"I don't care, I'm not letting you over exhaust yourself." I answered, continuing up despite the drenched ground turning to mud beneath my feet.
"What about you?" Emily asked, worry lacing her words.
"I promise I'll be fine." I said reassuringly, but I knew she wouldn't stop worrying.
I slipped and fell forward, but got back up without dropping Emily. I was drenched, muddy, and bleeding, but I had to push on. For Emily and her future. For safety.
Upon reaching the top of the hill, my legs collapsed under me, Emily rushed off and sat beside me.
"Are you okay?!" She wiped a little blood off my face and checked me for something more serious than a cut on my forehead.
"Yeah, just slipped.." I muttered, standing back up despite my legs screaming in protest. From her face I knew she knew I was lying, but she didn't say anything.
She stood up and took my hand as I lead us to a path that lead out of the city and away from the horrible war that was happening down the hill behind us. My legs ached and dragged along the floor, I occasionally coughed from the smoke caused behind us.
