Chapter 1

Maddie’s POV:

5:45 am

It’s perfect.

He’s perfect.

With his perfect-length brown hair, deep blue eyes, and soft lips.

Why can’t I just tell him?

Because it’ll ruin your friendship.

But what if it doesn’t? What if he feels the same way?

I roll over, still arguing with the little voice in my head, as I try to fall asleep so I stop thinking about him.

7:57 am

I wake up to feel a warm hand resting on my waist.

Goosebumps spread up my spine.

As my eyes adjust to the light peeking through my blinds, I realise we overslept.

“Nick!” I scream as I shake him (accidentally off the bed). I hear a loud thump as Nick’s body thumps to the floor, followed by “Maddieeeee.”

“We overslept!” I scream at Nick while I struggle to look presentable (Like I hadn’t just woken up).

But all I got in return was a loud, irritating snore. Out of anger and frustration, I threw a cup of 5-day-old water at him and watched how he nearly peed himself out of fright.

By the time he gets a hold of reality, I was already pushing him out of my window before anyone came in to check on all the noises and find out that he snuck in last night.

9:05 am

“By mum!! Love youuuuu!”

“By honey, have a great day!” Mum yelled back as I rushed out the door with a piece of toast in my mouth. I told Nick I’d meet him at 9, but I accidentally took too long trying to get my mascara to look perfect.

I sprinted across the driveway to next door, only to see him staring at me with a giant smile on his face. Which was weird because he hates it when I’m only a minute late.

Gosh, he looks perfect.

“Why are you so happy?”

“Well, if you must know, I just saw the most beautiful girl run towards me with a piece of, what looks like Vegemite toast, in her mouth.”

WTF

I stood there frozen at his words as blood rushed towards my cheeks.

“What? Never heard a compliment before?”

“I have. Just never from you.” I say, trying to sound like my head isn’t about to explode.

“What are you trying to say?” He said with a smirk on his face as he slowly walked towards me.

With every step he takes, my heart starts to race even more.

“Nothing,” I reply innocently.

The next thing I knew, he was chasing me across to the other side of the street and onto the grass.

I look back to see Nick hot on my trail. He’s fast, I got to admit that. I stop to a halt, trying to catch my breath, when suddenly I get tackled onto the grass and start rolling down the hill with Nick on top of me.

I’m not complaining.

Once we reached the bottom of the hill, we both looked at each other and started giggling uncontrollably. An older-looking woman gave us a weird look as she walked by, probably wondering why we were lying on the grass laughing.

But it only made us laugh even harder.
