Chapter 1' Olympus Gates

I look at the sky, dropping pieces of ice. Snow.

Calm, very beautiful, very cold. But sometimes it pains – it stings our skin until we become numb of it.

I sighed and put on the top cloak that I had just tucked in earlier. I also fixed my chocolate-colored boots, which had turned white from the snow.

My hair seemed to be the color of fire.

Don't get me wrong, I just colored my original black haired to match it with my eye colour, black with a glint of red.

The crowd around me also wore cloaks of different colors, and others have swords and spears with them. Probably something they could use handy in Olympus or Semideus tests.

Meanwhile, I only brought a small dagger and a lighter.

When we got to the front of the Capitol House, the crowd got even thicker. Since, they want to see the opening of Olympus Gates, the door to the Olympian World.

The Capitol City is said to be the center of the mortal world, 'cause it's where the Olympus Gates.

Every year, the gates are opening for mortals like me. There is an Olympian's Test going on to find out which of us can belong in their world.

To be a Semideus, a mortal favored by the Gods.

I've squeezed through the crowd until I get to the very front. I closed my eyes when I was dazzled by the golden gates.

It really shone brightly and beat mister moon!

Many people bumped into me but they couldn't get ahead of me.

Hey! They are weak! Thank you.

For years, I have trained myself to be a Semideus.

I taught myself to use a dagger, and if someone steals a sword I learn too.

And sometimes, the dead helps me.

My third-eye is open, I see respectful souls and sometimes demons or angels that are here on earth. I don't know why, but that's how I've been raised all my life. To see what really shouldn't be seen.

A cold hand touched my arm, I turned and saw a woman with short hair. Her eyes were lifeless.

And I could tell, she is a ghost.

"Pass the test, huh? Don't end up like me," she said and smiled.

I smiled at I looked back at the gates.

"I'll see if I can get inside and help you with the Test!" She hit me and jumped up and down, she's more excited than me, "And when you pass, be close to Hades and ask him to send me to the best place in the underworld!"

She looked at the gates with hope in her eyes.

I nodded at sighed, "I'll do my best,"

The thunders roared. And everyone stopped and looked up.

Clouds began to gather and there was a little light.

A lightning struck the Olympus Gates, and it opened loudly. The thunders also noised, and the crowd, I don't know if they are rejoicing, or rather crying.

I just kept looking at the opening gates, mesmerized and in awe.

The ghost held me again, "S-S-cor-chi-ng. . ." she spoke with an accent.

Her soul was vanishing little by little, fading through light.

I wondered, is it because of the gates, so she disappeared? Or maybe because she got her last wish.

"Mortals!" A voice roared in the heavens.

From the voice, I could tell that it was Zeus, the god of the skies. The God of Gods.

We all fell to our knees. A sign of respect to God, I almost screamed because of the coldness of the snow, but I suppressed it even though I was still shivering. The others couldn't take it and suddenly fell to the ground, passed out.

I maintained my position for a little time until he ordered us to stand, I forced myself to stand even though my legs were wriggling from the cold and shivering.

I sighed and then I saw Zeus. He was inside the gates, and still in full armor. His blonde hair shone brightly and his blue eyes shone brighter than the stars. A god, indeed. Perfect.

The line remained on his mouth as he looked at each person, as if he was looking down at us. And he seemed to be shouting in my mind 'I am god,'

He walked up to me and said, "Gods and humans no longer live apart. We are now together, that is why every year we have this Olympian's Test,"

He stopped in front of us and flew up, "There are twelve tests or battles for you, one for each Olympian,"

"Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Ares, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, and Herms. And an extra throne for our brother, Hades,"

He coughed before continuing to say, "But of course entering the gates is also a test for you. If you cannot enter, them I'm sorry, you cannot be a Semideus,"

I was immediately discouraged, just looking at the gates it seemed like I would never reach it.

"And now that the gates have finally opened. I welcome you mortals. Enter and battle for glory," Zeus said leaving us.

The doors of Olympus remained open, but none of us could enter.

I looked back at the crowd, there was a man who came from the very back and walked straight until he got in front of me.

Everyone was looking at us, perhaps wondering.

Even I wonder about the man, his hair was brown and his eyes were yellow, almost golden that complimented his tan skin well.

He looked like Hermes but his features were more defined, and his bright eyes seemed to stab me.

He walked past me, but stopped at my side. His hand brushed with mine for he was too close. Too intimidating.

The thought was interrupted when I lightly felt the coldness of a blade on my side. As well as blood dripping from it.

I flinched, but the blade just went deeper.

I looked at him and saw a smile etched on his mouth. His eyes turned to dangerous red.

When I knelt down, he suddenly quickly arrived inside the gates.

My jaw unconsciously clenched at him. And I didn't even realize that I ran towards him, until a lightning struck.

I stepped back, he stood still in front of me and his smirk widened.

Then I realized, the crowd was gone.

The gates in front was gone.

I turned back, and was surprised by what I saw. I am inside the gates.

It seems that my anger towards the man who stabbed me has been erased, all that mattered was the very moment I am in Olympus.

But a strong push sent me flying, I bumped into a tree and suddenly fell down.

Argh! It hurts!

I looked at the man, he pushed me! I grabbed my side and was surprised when he suddenly came close to me, he knelt so that our faces were level.

"Congratulations, Meli. . ." his whisper tickled along my ears. He stopped for a bit but then resumed, "Melizabeth,"

How did he know my name?

"Who are you?" I asked him, avoiding his closeness.

Is he a God or something?

He grinned, his eyes turned to golden yellow again.

He stood with a sigh, until he held his hand and said, "I'm Lycus, son of Hermes,"

So he's a demigod? No wonder, he is very strong. And he really does look like Hermes. No doubt.

I just looked at his hand, I managed to stand well even if the side hurts. I didn't need his help. I stopped when he laughed and lowered his hand. He shrugged at me too. What's going on?

"Well, welcome to Olympus,"
