Chapter 1: Confession and Hope

One day as Yoon Byung-ho was heading home, he couldn’t get the thought of his boss out of his mind, it wasn’t the first time this had happened, and he was scared to admit it to himself, but his feelings for his boss were deeper than he expected, he tried to convince himself that it was just an infatuation but in his heart, he knew it was more.

The rich man in question was none other than Park Jung-woo, the owner of the biggest lawfirm in South Korea, which Byung-ho happened to be the assistant at. Byung-ho had always felt a strange connection with Jung-woo, despite having spent a long time working with him, he still felt like he didn’t really know him.

This made him feel even more drawn to Jung-woo, and he couldn’t deny his feelings anymore. He couldn’t resist the urge to confess his love.

The next morning, Byung-ho was getting ready for work. He tried to calm his nerves and focus on his tasks, but he could not stop thinking about Jung-woo and their possible future together. tried to keep himself distracted as he ate breakfast, but he still found himself staring out the window at the same thought of Jung-woo in his head.

As he walked to work, Byung-ho’s mind ran wild. Every now and then, he would imagine different scenarios in which he and Jung-woo were together, and he would find himself blushing uncontrollably. Byung-ho couldn’t decide if he was excited or scared, but he knew that he couldn’t live as just his assistant anymore. He needed to tell Jung-woo what he felt.

Finally making it to the office, Byung-ho was greeted by the secretaries and fellow assistants as he hung up his coat. They all seemed to be aware of the tension between Byung-ho and Jung-woo, and they couldn’t help but gossip about the two of them when they were not around. They knew something was up, but Byung-ho was still trying to keep this a secret. Despite the rumors, Byung-ho tried his best to focus on his work, though he was still thinking about his boss, he had some files to sort through before he could get up the courage to confess his feelings.

As the day went on, Byung-ho managed to get his work done and even helped some of his colleagues with their tasks. He was relieved to be done as he was hoping to get out of there early and finally build up the courage to confess his love to Jung-woo. However, Jung-woo had not been seen that day, which was a bit strange, seeing as he was always in his office right when Byung-ho arrived.

Byung-ho started to worry that Jung-woo might have left early or not come in at all and Byung-ho missed him, but as he was heading towards his boss’s office, one of the secretaries stopped him. β€œActually,” she said, β€œMr. Jung-woo left early today, just as you arrived. I’m sure he wanted to get home before the traffic picked up.”

β€œOh,” Byung-ho’s tone became dejected at the news, he was disappointed that he had missed his chance to confess his feelings to Jung-woo for yet another day. β€œDo you know if Mr. Jung-woo has a meeting anywhere after work?”

β€œI’m not sure,” the secretary replied, β€œusually when he leaves the office, he goes straight home.” The secretary went back to work, and Byung-ho was left alone with his thoughts. He started to worry that he might not have another chance to confess his love to his boss, and that made his feelings of sadness and frustration grow even more.

With nothing else to do that day, Byung-ho tried his best to keep himself occupied and get his mind off the situation. But, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about Jung-woo and what he was doing at that moment. He was tempted to just call him, but he didn’t wanna seem too eager. Byung-ho hoped that Jung-woo would come back to work the following day, and hopefully, they would be able to meet up so he could finally confess his romantic feelings towards him...

The next morning, Byung-ho woke up feeling even more nervous than he had the night before. He was certain that today would be the day he would finally confess his feelings to his boss. He had already decided on what he would say, but he was still anxious about how Jung-woo would react. He decided to get ready for work as quickly as he could and was at the office before anyone else. He was relieved to see that his boss was already in his office working, and Byung-ho slowly walked up to him, nervously.

A wave of nervousness overtook Byung-ho as he finally got to Jung-woo’s desk. He took a deep breath to steady his nerves before saying, in a trembling voice, β€œSir, I have to confess something...” Jung-woo looked up from his work, startled by this unexpected confession. He waited for Byung-ho to continue, not knowing what to expect.

β€œI have had feelings for you for quite some time now,” continued with a quavering voice. Jung-woo was taken aback by this declaration, it was not what he had been expecting at all. He was used to Byung-ho being his loyal assistant, but this was a complete surprise. Jung-woo was silent as he tried to process what he was hearing. Byung-ho continued, β€œI know this is all very sudden, but... I love you.”

Jung-woo was speechless, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The assistant he had known and worked alongside for so long was now confessing his love for him. He was completely caught off guard, and he didn’t know how to respond. Byung-ho kept his eyes on the ground as he waited nervously for Jung-woo’s answer.

Jung-woo sat in stunned silence as he tried to process what Byung-ho had just told him. For a moment, he was at a loss for words, his mind trying to wrap his head around what was happening. Finally, he mustered up the courage to answer Byung-ho. β€œI... I’m sorry,” he said, regretful, β€œbut I don’t see you that way.”

Byung-ho’s heart sank as he heard those words, he felt his heart aching as he realized that Jung-woo did not return his feelings. He felt like he was being torn apart in that moment, as Jung-woo’s words left him disappointed and with a broken heart. Byung-ho looked away from him, unable to face his boss anymore, and instead, he just hurriedly took his coat and headed for the exit door.

Jung-woo stood up quickly and started to go after Byung-ho as he left. β€œWait!” he called out, β€œWait, don’t leave!” Byung-ho stopped and turned around, and Jung-woo caught up to him quickly. He looked Byung-ho in the eyes, wanting to say the right words so he could convince him to stay. β€œPlease,” he asked, β€œcan we... can we talk about this?”

Byung-ho was taken aback by this sudden change in Jung-woo’s attitude. He wasn’t sure what to make of it, and part of him was still hurt from Jung-woo’s rejection. But, he could see the genuine pain in his eyes and the way he was pleading for them to talk, so he reluctantly agreed. β€œOkay... I’ll stay, but what do you have to say?”

Jung-woo took a deep breath, preparing himself for what he was about to say. β€œI know my response may have been disappointing for you,” he began, β€œbut... I’m willing to try and see if we can make something work, if that’s what you want.” Byung-ho was stunned by this sudden turn of events. He was not expecting Jung-woo to be so forthcoming towards his own feelings, he thought that he himself was the only one who had fallen in love.

Byung-ho could not believe his ears, he was overjoyed to hear those words from Jung-woo. Finally, the feeling that he had been carrying inside could be free and open. There was no more hiding his feelings, no more worrying about the future. He could finally let himself be true to himself and express his feelings without fear. Byung-ho quickly embraced Jung-woo, clinging to him tightly as he let all the emotions he had been keeping in come pouring out.

Byung-ho and Jung-woo held each other tight, not wanting to let go of the other. Byung-ho felt a sense of relief wash over him as he realized that his feelings were finally acknowledged by Jung-woo, who was finally open to exploring the potential of a romantic relationship with him. Jung-woo was also feeling overwhelmed with emotions, he had never suspected that Byung-ho felt this way about him, and now he felt a new rush of excitement and enthusiasm for what could potentially be their future together.
