A Mother's Happiness
There was something no one perceived when the Mirror situation came about, none- not even the ancient fox or much younger godling understood the true power of the Mirror. To grant a wish, one single wish in exchange for a life, seems so very simple and concrete and yet… One wish could rip apart the entire universe, tip the scales either forward or back and bind people together in situations they would have otherwise never faced. They never wondered what happened to the souls of those whom the Mirror took, of why it was a life needed to fulfill the debt, for hundreds if not thousands of years the Mirror took on other beings, a mismatch of souls and lives, through their memories the mirror learned and evolved.
When the fox-boy made his wish the Mirror delved into him ready to accomplish its task once more and yet- this time the Mirror paused in its debt collection. A wish for the happiness of a mother, memories came then, of times when mother's had looked upon this glass for wishes of their own, always the same wish- to protect their child. The Mirror knew, from its own memories of mothers' past that the happiness of a mother rests within the soul of their child.
Thus the Mirror knew this situation was different from others and the threads of Fate began to unravel as it collected a different sort of payment. There was another boy on the roof, one whom Fate had hooked quite thoroughly and the Mirror decided he would fit within the plan perfectly.
And so it happened that Yusuke Urameshi offered himself in place of the avatar known as Kurama, neither gave notice to the bond forming between them or the consequences of their actions. For once in his life the great thief Youko did not plan for all outcomes, he did not even ponder the twists that his wish would cause. When the boys awoke from the Mirror's influence the world was the same and yet vastly different from what it would have been, the future had changed and a new path was being carved in stone.

Please review. Alright, I know this is very short but it is only a prologue, thus it is allowed to be short. I am unsure as to how long this fic will be, the anime and manga will progress normally, I will not be mentioning all moments, with short mentions as to why certain things happened as they did. It won't be until the end of the series that an AU may form. Most likely I am shooting for three to five chapters composed of several small scenes, however this may change depending upon its reception and my muse.
