Chapter 1
Today was Margo's birthday, and she did not expect certain events to happen either. Let's say a best friend wanted to go to a bar to celebrate turning twenty-one. To be honest, Margo did not want to go to a bar. She just wanted to stay home and watch movies or something. After debating all of this, Margo wanted to go to a normal restaurant. Cassandra insisted and convinced me to go to Turbo Grill, where she works as a waitress. She thought making Margo have her first drink. Margo personally did not like the fact that everyone drinks on their twenty-first birthday. She wanted a low-key night.
Here Margo was, arriving at Turbo Grill. The night was chilly, and wearing a dress that was made of light fabric was the worst choice ever. The dress was short enough that it reached her upper thighs. Margo pulled her jacket tighter against her to reduce the goosebumps gathering on her skin. The heels she was wearing made her trip trying to walk across the parking lot. Walking up the stairs to the bar and grill, Margo nearly faceplanted. It was freezing. Why did Ido do this? Margo thought to herself.
Once inside, she looked around at the other patrons. Some restaurant goers were dressed in leather and wore boots like those of bikers. She saw some dressed in normal attire and she checked the atmosphere. Deep down, she knew this place was not in her element. Margo could have just canceled and faked an illness. But Cassandra just had her beg to come. Truthfully, going into the packed bar by just looking at the parking lot. There is no way Margo felt okay.
Meanwhile, Margo drowned in her self-loathing by looking around for Cassandra by the entrance. There, Margo saw the wavy blonde head of Cassandra by the bar counter talking to the bartender. She made her way over to Cassandra, trying to appear confident in herself.
Cassandra was busy having a conversation with the bartender and the guy next to her to realize Margo was standing behind her. Margo had to tap her on the shoulder to grab her attention. Honestly, she could just pretend she was not here at all. It took a minute for Cassandra to realize Margo was even there.
Margo huffed and wanted to walk out. Instead made an angry sound to grab her friend's attention.
Then Cassandra looks up when Margo places her bag and jacket on the stool. She comments, "About time you got here. You need to order a shot."
"I have been standing here waiting for you to notice me," Margo replied sarcastically.
Margo sat down.
"Sorry, you know how I get when I talk to handsome men at the bar," Cassandra apologized.
Margo rolled her eyes and refused to comment.
"Okay, birthday girl. We need to get you your first drink!" Cassandra shouts over the music.
Cassandra waves over to the bartender. He comes over. Cassandra asked, "John, can we have a shot of vodka?"
John places the shot in front of Margo. He goes back to completing other orders. Margo knew John was Cassandra's boss and owner of the Turbo Grill. He had bought the place a couple of years before. It was just a shack before, in the woods outside of town. Now, it was a nice place that had transformed.
"Bottoms up," Margo said, and he tossed the shot back. It burned going down.
Cassandra cheered. Margo tried to feel excited but needed to use the restroom. Then she excused herself.
Margo was too busy in her thoughts to realize she had bumped into someone. Looking up, she saw it was a gentleman all dressed in black. He has long, pale blonde hair and brown eyes. Also, he appeared to be 6'3 "and could see that he was fit. He did not have to be much older than her.
"Are you okay, miss?" A mysterious, deep voice asked.
Margo was too awestruck to hear what he said. She felt like she was in a trance and did not know how to describe it. He was waiting for her to answer.
"Oh...um...sorry. What did you ask?" Margo stammered.
"I asked if you were okay, but you kept staring at me, like in a sort of trance. Otherwise, it's fine. I know I turn heads with my looks anyway. I'm Lucius Wentz; by the way, if you're wondering, "Lucius replied in a matter-of-fact tone.
Margo could add arrogance to the list about Lucius by his tone. Simply, Margo ignored his answer to introduce himself.
"I am Margo Devereux." Margo is simply not getting my hopes up with this encounter.
We shook hands, and both went in opposite directions. Margo went to the bathroom and did her business. Thinking what the heck came over when meeting that Lucius guy in the hall outside the bathroom?
Margo was uncomfortable on the way back from the bathroom. She got back to the bar where Cassandra waited for her and still sat drinking another cocktail or something. John set another shot of vodka in front of Margo. She tossed it back, and the burning feeling was gone. Cassandra drinks the rest of her drink and then declares, "Let's dance!"
She grabbed Margo's hands and dragged Margo to the dance. The music was so loud, you could not hear yourself think. Cassandra and Margo danced like idiots, but they did not care either way. The feeling of alcohol running through her system made her more free. Sometimes, Margo could feel eyes on her but could not tell who was watching. Sometimes, between dancing with Cassandra and the music, Margo's head began to pound. It hurt so much that trying to move made the room start to spin. Her ears were starting to ring and began to sway. Margo placed a hand on her forehead to rub the pounding away. She was getting jostled around. Not knowing what would happen next. Her vision was starting to tunnel around the edges
Margo felt someone's arms catch her, but that was what she could remember before everything went completely dark.
