Chapter 1

A Year Back: Chow

Chow Wang sat in the karate gym next to a window on the floor in his meditative pose. He was in the zone meditating when a shot rang out into the air. Before Chow could alert himself and move out of the way he was struck in the back of the head. His body slumped over to the side. The shot alerted everyone in the house including his wife Zhang and his son Jackson who ran into the gym along with Chow’s right-hand Mr. Yen and some of the guards. Zhang fell to her slain husband’s side so did Mr. Yen. They later learned the hit came from their watch tower through the gym’s window. Unfortunately, camera angles did not catch who was responsible.

With the current Don dead everyone looked to a young 22-year-old Jackson Wang. Some felt with his playful, rebellious nature he was not ready for this position at all. The fact that he was known as the Dragon’s playboy, without a steady girlfriend or fiancé just questioned his ability to lead them. Some older Dragons felt that their enemies, the Tigers would take over the Hong Kong division, if Jackson could not present himself to be a formidable Don.

Eddie Peng, the Tiger’s leader and Wang’s rival was none too eager to learn of Chow’s death. Now he had a reason to throw his hat as The Chinese leader in which he and Wang would battle for the ultimate position as the most powerful Don in Hong Kong.

Wang’s Dragons were breathing down his neck to settle down and take responsibility for his father’s legacy. He of course had every intention of taking over. He would put his rebellious nature to good use and marry outside of what the Dragons or even his mom deems to be traditional. He always had a penchant for black girls. He loved everything about them. So, when the opportunity arose for him to form alliance with the Swedish Don, he took full advantage. Johan Berg Jr. needed vital information, from him to rid himself of the Mexican Don and Wang needed a Donna. A contract was presented and here we are today.

In exchange for information Wang requested that JJ find him a Donna. The Swedish Don did honor the contract. What Wang had not expected was for his future wife to be so young. He wanted to get married right away but had to wait until her birthday of turning an adult to marry. The contact was already signed by she and her parents. Wang knew one thing for sure, no matter what ring he had on his finger, or marriage certificate, he would still be the Dragon’s playboy. His marriage was one of business. He needed a Donna and he found one, just to appease some of the more skeptical Dragon’s. All he had to do was marry her, get her knocked up and carry on with his life.

Present Day: Three Days Before the wedding.

“Remy, I know the hell, you are not serious with these dresses!” Shanae said turning her mouth up in disgust, at the bridesmaid's dresses. The rest of the girls mirroring her same look.

Remy sighed, “Girls I know. It’s just Wang’s mother wanted a more traditional wedding.

“What about, what you want lil sis?” Raven asked.

“I’m fine with-it Raven honestly. I’m the next Donna and if Ms. Wang and the Dragon’s want to see a traditional Chinese wedding it’s fine.”

Remy had been in China for four days now and her life was already changing drastically. Starting with Ms. Wang. When Jackson first introduced her to his mom, Remy already knew the woman did not like her. After giving her son a hard slap, Zhang proceeded to cuss him out in Chinese. After settling down over her disdain for Remy the woman practically took over the wedding plans. Relating to her son how the wedding should be. The woman hardly said a word to Remy other than the occasional head nod in passing, then she’d stick her head back in the air as if Remy didn’t exist. Of course this did not settle too well with Crispin and Kira but Remy told her parents she’d talk to Wang about it. Not to worry or interfere. Talking to Wang wasn’t much help. He just said his mother was too preoccupied with making sure everything went well for the wedding. Remy didn’t want any type of tension between her and Wang’s mother so she’d seek the woman’s company out today just so they could clear the air.

“And sis wearing a red wedding dress!!” Ranae turned up her lips.

“The red is supposed to represent, prosperity, good luck and happiness. The one thing I’m glad Ms. Wang insisted on after finding out the meaning behind the red dress.” Remy replied.

“I don’t know why she insisted on it since she clearly does not approve of this marriage.” Ranae grumbled.

“RANAE!!” Shanae scolded her sister as everyone looked at her with warning.

Ranae just kissed her teeth. “What? We all can see it, just being honest.” Ranae shrugged as Remy just shook her head stepping out of the room.

“Idiot, look what you did. You upset her.” Shan said to her sister, getting up to go behind Remy but Kira held her back.

“Stay, I will go and talk to my child.” Kira went behind Remy as she walked straight to her room. Kira knocked on the door.

“Come in Mom.” Remy answered.

“How did you know it was me?” Kira chuckled walking into the room.

“It only would be you or Shanae to follow. I just know your footsteps better Mom.”

Kira half smiled. “Honey talk to me.”

“Mom I’m fine honestly. I’m not upset about what Ra said. It’s best I keep reminding myself this is a business arrangement, nothing more.”

“Remy you and I both know that isn’t true. Yes, it’s an arranged marriage but you are in this with Wang for life. Remy honey I know you, at some point you are going to want him to stop seeing you as a transaction and more of a wife.”

“Mom don’t!!“Remy raised her hand in protest.

“Remy!! Baby I’m your mother. You are tough as nails but even you have a breaking point. This marriage is only going to be what you make of it honey.”

“Mom how many times have you ever seen me cry? Basically, only as a baby and when Uncle Buck was in the hospital and that was only because I love that man different. Other than that, I won’t break easy. I just want some level of respect between Wang, his mother and I.”

Kira caressed her daughter’s curls. “Baby I hope so, I really do.”

Later that day Remy sought out her mother- in-law just as she promised herself. She found Zhang in the tearoom.

Zhang heard her, before she saw her. Zhang balled her fist how dare she walked into the tearoom with shoes. The heel of Remy’s boots hit noisily against the floor making Zhang’s eyes pitch with each step.

“Ms. Wang, good day.” Remy smiled as Zhang turned to her with a half-smile. Remy remembered to bow politely. Zhang gave a short bow of her own. “I just wanted to say how excited I am to be here in China and learn as much as I can about the culture. Marrying your son is an honor Ma’am and...........”

“I cannot hear anything you say with your boots tapping so loudly against the floor. Your voice is high pitched.” Zhang interrupted rubbing her ears.

That’s when Remy looked to see the woman bare feet. The only reason she spoke a bit louder because of her excitement. Remy quickly scrambled out her boots forgetting she was in the tearoom. She should not be walking around the mansion with any shoes really, she was just so use to it back home.

“I am so sorry Ma’am.” Remy apologized as Zhang stopped the urge to roll her eyes.

“Is there something in particular you needed dear? You are talking but not saying anything much.” Zhang said batting her eyes innocently with a smile, as if she wasn’t being cad.

Remy just cleared her throat. “Ma’am I just wanted you to understand, that I’m here to be of service to not only the Dragon’s and Wang as Donna but also to you. This is something I’m determined not to fail at.”

Zhang hummed, “You are seventeen, no?” Zhang asked sarcastic.

“Only for three more days. Then I’ll be a full fledge adult. But my age shouldn’t be a factor. Wang is like four years older than me. It’s not that bad.”

“Being Donna is a job, a sacrifice. To serve not only your husband, an entire clan, family, to help rule. Being an adult in age, is not the same as mind, especially if your motivation is seeing only wealth and all you can suck from a family of power.”

“With all due respect ma’am your son was the one that sought me out.” Remy defended herself.

“But does he see you? From my vision I see weakness. I see an opportunist who is way in over her young head.” Zhang said not mixing her words. “Now if you’ll excuse me I’d like to practice my ritual alone. Please make sure you carry your shoes and not wear them in sacred places.” Zhang said dismissing Remy.

A/N: Whew chile what y’all think of Zhang. Do you think she’s right? Is Remy in over her head? What about Kira telling her daughter, basically she may not be as tough as she thinks.
