1.Blood Ruby Pack
Dawn pov
I had my headphones on and had fallen asleep during our drive, until I felt the car stopped abruptly and when I felt my body shaking I opened my eyes.
"What happened?" I took off my headphones looking at my father's expression.
"I almost hit a wolf with the car." My dad had widened his eyes looking ahead.
"Do wolves live here? Are you sure it wasn't a dog, dad? Or any other animal? " Well I refused to believe that my dad saw a wolf, maybe it was because of the lack of sleep.
I stared at the road trying to catch a glimpse of what it was.
"Maybe I got confused, the drive was long. We have to find a hotel somewhere to spend the night." My dad shook his head , moving his huge muscular hand in front of his face.
"Yes you need a good beauty sleep." I smiled at my dad before taking my book from the backseat. I had to try to stay awake and be vigilant since I couldn't drive and my dad was ready to fall asleep.
"Shit!" My dad sighed.
"Bad word, dad!" I reprimanded him, then I looked around and we were surrounded by trees. I was so lost in the book that I didn't notice, I just felt the bumpy road.
"Sorry firefly, but the car broke down and I think we're lost."
"Ughh, wasn't the map supposed to take us there? " I groaned before I followed my father out of the car. My father's amazing idea of accepting the work to nowhere. We didn't even know that place existed and suddenly we were on a trip to that place and now we were lost.
"Dad are you sure that was the right address?" I asked while my father was getting out our bags and suitcases.
"That was the address they gave me firefly. I'm afraid we have to walk and ask around.
"Ughh, why didn't you try to call them?" I took my baseball bat out of the truck.
"I tried but the reception doesn't work here. Did you actually take that with you?" My dad eyed the baseball bat.
I didn't actually play baseball, I wasn't good at sports, I hated sports.
"I took it in case we needed it. For example right now if we face some wild animals , or that wolf you almost hit with the car earlier." I tried to give excuses to my dad but he knew me well. He raised his eyebrow shaking his head and laughing.
"Come on firefly , I doubt you'll ever use it in your life that bat, it's wasted money." My dad walked ahead and I followed him with my bat in my hands.
My dad never lets me hold bags or anything that is heavy and I knew I would waste my breath arguing to hold the bags he took with him. And not that he needed any help. My dad has been working as a bodyguard for different well known businessmen and had a well built body. As for me, well my lazy ass avoided sports or morning runs.
"Will see dad. It may come in handy." I moved my hips walking slowly behind my dad. After we walked and I whinned and complained all the way, and cursed those who offered him the job, finally we saw people.
There was a huge rock where it was written 'Blood Ruby Pack'.
"What's a pack?" I asked my dad.
"It is something to describe animals, it means a group. Why are you asking?"
I showed my dad the writing on the rock.
"But animals can't write right?" I shrugged my shoulders and my dad laughed.
"Maybe a teenager has written it. Who understands kids these days?"
"Dad that was offensive. I've been past my teen era a long time ago." I pouted my lips, I knew my weak argument wouldn't convince my dad.
"Wait here. If you see I'm in danger you run as fast as you can." My dad left the bags near me and walked towards two unknown men.
It was like there was a village sorrounded by large walls , but in front of it there were two muscular men and on top of the large building there was movement as well.
When they saw us they became alerted in attack mode and I grabbed my bat. There was no way I was going to leave my dad alone.
"Hello gentlemen!" My dad approached to them. I noticed those two men sniffed the air before they stared at each other and exchanged looks.
"What do you want?" One of them questioned rudely.
"How rude!" I sighed and both of them looked at me. They couldn't have listened to me, I was at a long distance, my dad was the one who approached and ordered me to keep my distance.
"Sorry to bother you gentlemen, but our car broke down and we have lost our way. I was suppossed to go to this address." My dad pulled out of his jeans pocket the small card with the name of the bussiness in front of it.
"One of the men took it reluctantly, he showed it to the other man then he shook his head.
"We don't know that. There are no bussinesses around. You are far from it." The man answered in short sentences.
"Do you know any hotel nearby?"
"No." The other man answered this time.
"Okay, thank you gentlemen." My dad thanked them but they stood like soldiers, no emotion on their face. My dad took the bags and we started walking away.
"What are we going to do dad? " I whinned. My feet were hurting. I really needed a foot massage.
"I guess we have to wander a bit until we find some place to stay for the night. "
At the end we didn't find any hotel or place or people. My dad started a fire and decided to stay in the woods for the night.
"I will stay guard for the night, you can sleep. Are you hungry?" My dad took out of the bag the food we had brought with us.
"You need to sleep dad, I'll stay as a guard." I took the baseball bat and showed it to my dad.
"Eat your food and sleep, firefly." My dad talked to me like he was giving me an order.
"Yes sir yes." I put my hand near my forehead and made a soldier sign.
Of course I wasn't going to do as he said and he knew me well.
After a while staying there , my dad stood on his feet for the tenth time after hearing the smallest noise.
"Don't worry dad, I'll protect us with my bat." I teased him again.
"I told you it is a waste of money." My dad repeated again.
"I'll win the bet." I singed the lines and my dad laughed, but his smile froze on his face while he was looking behind me.
"Come here fast." My dad took out a knife from his boots and I went near him, holding my bat.
Some people gathered around us, but once they were close enough to us I noticed they were not normal people.
Humans with their features deformed, I don't know if they were part of some experiment but they were ugly and frightening.
Their eyes were yellow, they had canines and their nails were sharp and long like those of animals.
What did they want from us? I thought my heart would slide from my chest but I had to become strong for my father. I couldn't leave him alone or become a burden at that moment.
My adrenaline made me throw some nasty comments at those strange creatures.
My father insisted that I run away but I wasn't going to leave him alone.
When I saw some of them were on top of my father I closed my eyes and hit them on the back to get them away from my father.
But one of them jumped on me and I thought it was going to kill me.I widened my eyes in horror when I saw that face so close to mine, the sharp cannines while my bat was taken of my hands. I closed my eyes, screaming on top of my lungs waiting for something that would hurt me.
I didn't feel a thing, was I dead? Did it kill me and I died? I opened my eyes finding an angel on top of me. Was he my guardian angel? Are angels suppossed to have human features? He was so handsome, his blue eyes stared at my face with curiousity and something I couldn't decipher.
"Are you my guardian angel?" I smiled sweetly, believing I made it to heaven. Yay! When the angel disappeared and I stared at the sky sorrounded by the top of the tall trees. I felt disappointed, why did he leave? I pouted my lips when I heard my father's voice.
"Firefly are you alright?" I blinked my eyes standing on my elbows and looking around. There were no beasts, only men, shirtless men who had caught two of those beasts that were now on their knees.
My dad helped me get up and hugged me. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah!" I answered. I was confused.
"Thank you, you saved me and my daughter from those creatures. " My dad turned around to thank them and I looked at the strange muscular men. They were all shirtless. I lowered my eyes blushing.
"It is not safe to roam in these woods."
One of them spoke and I raised my eyes looking at him. Were they beast hunters or what?
"Our car broke down, we are looking for a hotel." My dad responded.
"There are no hotels near here. Where are you headed to, if I may ask?" My dad showed him the card and he shook his head.
"This is fake, they trick people into getting their money." Once the man explained I widened my eyes in horror.
"Well they won't get any money from me because I didn't accept the job position until I would see it with my own eyes. " My dad sighed.
"May I ask what the job position is?" The man who was doing the talking , asked again.
"My dad works as a bodyguard." I intervened and this time the man who had his back on us spoke.
"We can host you for the night. You can tell us where your car is and I'll send someone to have a look at it." The authority in his voice made my knees go weak. I extended my neck to have a look at him in vain because he had his back on us. His back was muscular and you could see his tattoos.
"Thank you, that would be very generous." My dad pulled me closer.
"My name is James. This way please." The man who did the talking showed us the way. He was polite. But I was curious to look at the face of the other man. My dad took my bags and James helped with some of them. "Wait." I made them wait while I took my bat. "You lost the bet old man." I whispered to my dad.
Those human- beasts I don't know what they were, but they were taken away while my dad and James were talking.
"Are you hunters?" I asked and James stopped before turning around to face us.
