Accidentally Read This in One Sitting, Best Book This Week

"I picked this up because the cover stopped my scroll and I went in knowing nothing about the author. A Glasgow subway crawl as a romance premise sounds like it should be a gimmick. It is absolutely not a gimmick. Pollyford writes Chloe's anxiety the way people actually live it, funny from the outside, genuinely exhausting from the inside, and she never lets you forget both things are true at the same time. I was sold by the lost ticket in chapter one. By the time I hit Liam's first POV chapter I had put my phone down twice just to collect myself. What I didn't expect was to spend the whole read quietly admiring the craft underneath the story. Pollyford does something I genuinely respect: she uses typography as voice. The isolated words, the italics that land like a held breath, the character name headers that shift your whole perspective in a single line. It's not decoration, it's structural. She knows exactly when to slow the reader down and she uses the page itself to do it. The dual POV is handled with real discipline. Chloe and Liam don't just sound different, they notice different things. Same scene, completely different emotional logic. That's harder than it looks and she makes it feel effortless. The comedy is load bearing too. It isn't relief valve humor dropped in to break tension. It's how these characters survive their own feelings. When a scene manages to be funny and devastating at the same time, that's a writer who understands both registers completely and trusts her reader to hold them simultaneously. This isn't a steamfest and it doesn't need to be. There's enough heat to satisfy but the whole book runs on something better. Two people with history, bad timing, and absolutely terrible luck navigating one chaotic day in a city that keeps throwing obstacles at them. The slow burn is patient and precise and earns every bit of its payoff. And the callbacks. She plants things so early and with such a light hand you don't clock them as setup. Then they land and you feel it twice. Once for the moment itself and once for realizing she knew exactly where she was going from page one. The ending had me grinning like an idiot. I won't say another word about it. Pick this up. Then find everything else she's written. "

funny and very well written 😌👌💯

"It's incredible how the author has been able to create an interesting plot and realistic characters, captured in a single afternoon of celebration and drinks with this crazy group of friends. The plot is very well thought out, full of small details that ultimately prove crucial. It was also refreshing to alternate points of view between the two protagonists. Seeing what Liam is really like from the beginning, rather than just Chloe's inaccurate perception, was a good idea. And seeing a "socially awkward" protagonist, but not to the point of being pathetic, is appreciated. On more than one occasion, I felt I could relate to her. Plus, both protagonists are incredibly endearing and lovely. ☺️🫶💕 I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful story, even its villains! Another Polly Fort novel that's becoming one of my favorites. Congratulations, author! 👏👏👏"

The Subcrawl

"A wonderfully delightful book! I was s.ucked right into this story, and read it in just a couple of hours! It kinda made me want to experience a subcrawl myself ... and I very rarely drink 🍻 and there are no subways 🚉 even remotely close to where I live. 😂 I loved all the characters - except Alex and Tasha/Nat, who I loved to hate! 😉 Liam and Chloe are too cute together, and moroculous Sandy is a hoot - I loved how she put Tasha/Nat in her place! 🤣"

🍻 Emotional Damage, but Make it Scottish and Cute 🥃

"There are two types of people in this world: those who can gracefully down eleven drinks and flirt their way through a Glasgow Subcrawl… and then there’s Chloe West, our anxiety-ridden queen who’d rather crawl into bed than across city pubs. Honestly? Same. This story had me cackling, cringing, swooning, and whisper-screaming "kiss already!" at my screen. Chloe is such a relatable disaster, and Liam? Oh Liam. He’s the human equivalent of bumping shoulders with someone and realizing you’ve just accidentally emotionally imprinted on them. The entire book spans ONE chaotic, alcohol-fueled day, and yet it manages to pack in heartwarming friendships, secondhand embarrassment, romantic tension, and plot twists I did not see coming. I swear the pub-to-pub pacing gave me cardio. Also, I’d like to personally thank the author for creating a story where characters actually feel real, awkward decision-making and all. The only unrealistic part? How functional everyone is after drink number six. Ma’am, I’d be horizontal behind a kebab shop by chapter 14. Final verdict: ✨ A perfect bite-sized romcom snack ✨ 10/10 would let this story ruin my emotional equilibrium again ✨ Please give me a novella about Sandy, she deserves her own chaos :) "

Cute

"This is a cute and well written short story. It's plot spans only one day and yet it's full of emotions and plot twists. For a short story the characters are suprisingly real and for that cudos to the author. The only thing I'd point out as a teeny tiny bit rebuke (well, not really, but I guess I'd laugh more if it was part of the story) is that even after the huge amounts of alcohol consumed, the characters behave mostly sober. I'm a lightweight and by the end of the story I'd be sleeping somewhere under a table, so the sobre reasoning just doesn't fit my experience 🤭 So I guess the story would feel a bit more real if the characters were more reckless 🤷 Anyway, really loved the story and if you need a sweet book snack, give this one a try! The Subcrawl

"I started reading it and didn’t want to put the book down. As I read it I noticed the perspective you wrote it in which I enjoyed very much. As if they turn and talk to us on the side as the rest of the story is being told. Very creative! I noticed a few simple spelling errors but that’s not terrible. I personally loved the story overall. sad it ended. I hope to see a sequel???"
