Raul Claybourne and his sister, Abigail, have been on the run for ten years from The Vampire Research Department, a secret government agency designated to study and experiment on vampires. The VRD wants to capture Raul and Abigail to utilize their unique supernatural talents. One night Raul’s luck runs out and he’s shot by a VRD agent. He arrives in Dr. Alexa Faberman’s ER and codes upon arrival. Alexa and her team manage to restart his heart. Later, Alexa discovers John Doe doesn’t have an ABO blood type. In fact, his alien red blood cells are abnormally shrunken and she fears he may have a very rare, deadly form of anemia. She decides to get another blood sample after his surgery, but when she enters his recovery room, two men in black suits burst in and kidnap Alexa and Raul at gunpoint. The kidnappers take them to the VRD’s compound in Nevada, where Abigail, is being held. Raul manages to escape with his sister and takes Alexa with them because she saved his life and he owes her. Raul hates the human race and the beautiful, blonde woman doctor is no exception. Her scent vexes Raul with fantasies he shouldn’t be having for a human. Sign number one a vampire has found his mate is the person’s intoxicating, irresistible scent. Raul doesn’t have a life mate yet, but she sure as hell isn’t a human doctor.

Sharda: I really enjoyed the pace of this story. It was mostly realistic, but It was tough to wrap my head around that a 13-year-old boy would be so intuitive and a friend to his mom. My 13-year-old daughter is super smart and says I am her best friend so I guess it is possible. I struggled because boys usu...
