There's A Goblin In The Dungeon - Chapter 1

Veldus Belkira

My name is Veldus Belkira and I’m a female Dragon. My hands were in shackles once again and I was being lead into another town. Guards are on either side of me so I couldn’t even make a break for it if I wanted to. Human guards. Did I mention wasn’t human? You know that might be an important part of this story. I’m the last of my kind. The Dragonkin. I walk on my hind legs, I have arms and fingers like the humans. It seems like the humans don’t like me. When I take stuff this is what happens. They catch me and I end up here. I’m just taking stuff from the wealthy and giving it to the underprivileged. I’d say I’m sort of an hero, these guards would argue that point. I feel someone shove me from behind and I turn my head to look behind me. Another one of those human guards.

“Move along!” The guard shouts at me.

“If I wasn’t in these shackles I’d teach you a lesson!” I growled at the human guard.

If these were Dragonkin guards I wouldn’t be treated so badly. It has felt like we’ve been walking for days, it had only been half a day. They had caught me in a small village. Word got out their was a Dragonkin theif on the loose. I’ve seen my hooded face on those wanted posters. I’m worth a bit of money. 3,000 Gold Pieces is what one of the wanted posters said. I should be happy that I’m worth so much. That is probably why they were keeping me alive. I see a small village in the distance. Is this where we are going?

“We are approaching Bareford.” I hear one of the guards call out. Bareford? That sounds like a place where there was going to be a lot of humans. Previously stated, my kind and humans don’t mix well. I actually hate the hierarchy that the humans have. Upper class, Lower Class, Middle class it’s all bullshit.

“Bareford, eh? Maybe we will finally get a decent meal and some mead.” I heard the other guard speak, I rolled my eyes. Food and alcohol were the only things that these two fools were worried about. There could be more dangerous things than me out there and all these two wanted to do was eat and drink. My stomach growled and I sighed. This was hard for me to admit but I needed some food as well. It took us about ten minutes to finally reach the village of Bareford. I called them villages but I guess the humans called them towns. There wasn’t much difference. They were words that pretty much meant the same thing. I was lead to a small tavern. I was then chained to a table as the three guards went to the bar and started drinking some mead.

I looked around and noticed that the tavern was empty except for myself and the guards that were transporting me. It was mid day. I kind of expected it to be full of drunk and disorderly humans. This worried me to an extent and I was probably not the big bad that was causing this. What could cause this? I could hear them talking at the bar but I couldn’t really make out everything they were saying. Maybe something about an Orc Or Goblin problem in the area. Now those were two creatures I wouldn’t mess with. Now if it got me out of these shackles I might help the humans with that problem.

“Humans!” I yelled. I watch the bartender and the three guards that are at the bar turn and look at me. Not with disgust but wondering what the hell I wanted.

“I overheard you might have an Orc Or Goblin problem. I usually steer clear of such beings. We are in a position where we might be able to help one another. You see, you unchain me.” I lifted my shackles into the air for everyone in the bar to see and then I smiled. “I go and smite whatever things that are bothering you.”

I watched one of the guards approach me. I could hear the jingling of the keys on the guards belt and I knew one of the other guards had a burlap sack with my ‘equipment’ in it. The sack had my twin daggers in it and my crossbow. The tools of the trade. The only sad thing was that I exhausted all my arrows fighting the guards that had captured me. I sighed and shook my head. I couldn’t how stupid I had been, captured that easily by a bunch of dirty fucking humans.

The guard was a few feet away from me and I just smiled as big as I could. I was going to get freed wasn’t I. I still had my shackles being held in the air and I was waiting very impatiently to be unshackled by the guard. I watched the guard fumble with a few of the keys until he found the right one and then my shackles were unlocked. I watched the guard motion to the other guard to come over. The other guard walked over and dropped the sack on the table. I smiled as I dumped the sack upside down and retrieved my dual daggers. I put them on my belt.

“We are coming with you.” One of the guards told me.

I smirked slyly at the guard. “You don’t trust me?”

One of the guards shook his head. “Not really.”

I really wouldn’t trust me either. Now I really wondered where these creatures might be and I might have to stop by a shop to grab some more arrows. I didn’t like fighting goblins and orcs up close and personal. I’d prefer to blast them away from a far. That is where the crossbow was going to come handy. I now had two guards by me again and they were going to come with me on this little adventure and it looked like I was going to have to ask around this village about where the goblins or orcs might be. Getting information from the locals might not be that easy, I didn’t know if they liked my kind or not. It was just amusing that I’m going to work with the two guards that had brought me here. One of the other guards was still at the bar slamming down mugs of mead.

I looked at the two guards and decided to think about what I was going to say. I looked at both of them up and down.

“You know you’re probably going to ask the locals for information. I doubt the locals would give me any information. Our kind doesn’t exactly like each other.”

“One of us could go and try to gather information from the village folks.” One of the guards told me. I nodded in agreement. I had some aggression to get out and a fight might be in order. Also, I hoped doing this would put me in the good graces of these people. Orcs and Goblins weren’t things you should take lately. I wondered if there was a mine or a cave around here. That is where Orcs and Goblins liked to dwell and do their business.

I walked towards the door that lead out of the tavern and I could feel the guards walking behind me. I push the door open and walk outside. I look around and notice the village was a little bit bigger than I thought it was. I might have mis judged the size of the village because I wasn’t paying attention. I could feel both of the guard’s hot breathe on the back of my neck. I wanted to smack them.re…
