Chapter 1: Anniversary
“I promise, I will not be a villain like my father.” Said the boy around my age at the time, digging his nails into his palms as he sat there, crying.
Today, August 17th, 20XX, marks the 2 year anniversary of the greatest villain attack in the world that had happened here in the marvelous city of Zerael. The battle between Val and Ghost.
The TV spoke as I was finally waking up from the wind coming through a peek of the window. I hate today. I mean, everyone does. Today is the day I had to fight against the greatest villain, who is Ghost. He almost killed me. No one really won, but no one lost either. Except, I lost some of my hearing, and a lot of blood. So, yeah, people call me Val. My actual name is Akumu Miyamoto, but I don’t use it a lot.
The wind pushed the curtains, which forced them to release the sunlight. Great. I got up and went to the kitchen, grabbing a frozen waffle and putting it in the toaster. I’ve kinda had a break of fighting Ghost, code-name; 1034 or Cigarette smoke. I came up with that. He hasn’t came out in about a year, after he was spotted in a alleyway near a small corner grocery downtown.
Someone had came into my hallway into the kitchen, going up and kissing my head softly. I look at them and it took me a second to think about who it was. It was my boyfriend, Oliver, or Ghost. That’s right, I’m dating my enemy. It hasn’t even been that bad, to be honest. Except for when we would have to fight each other in battle, but we both know we don’t hurt each other intentionally with full strength.
“You smell like cigarettes and cologne.. Away.” I barely was able to talk right because of how sleepy I was, pushing him slightly away. He laughed, “I got you a strawberry muffin so you don’t have to eat a frozen waffle again.” He got close to me as he spoke, his deep voice going through my spine, making me shiver. It’s not like i’m not used to his handsome voice, it just gets me every time. Luring me in.
He sat down a paper bag, I look in it to see the delicious looking strawberry muffin that I get out after a hot second of looking at it. Taking a big bite out of it immediately made me smile, making my day feel good already.
I look over to Oliver and his hair is up. He looks so nice when it’s up. Except, he has a scar on the back of his neck. From that battle. I did that, and I regret it. So very much. He says it’s no big deal every time we talk about it, knowing that I didn’t mean it. But at the time, I lost control. I couldn’t hold it back… and I did that.
Suddenly, the sounds of peoples screams go right into my ears. I panic a bit as Oliver looks at me dead in the eyes. He looked worried. I go over to the big glass window that is over the couch that views the city streets and view. Just to see smoke coming from far over the city, and explosion sounds getting closer and closer.
I heard Oliver scream my name as it went to my heart painfully. Just to feel sudden heat and a loud booming sound that caused my ears to ring. My vision going black.
I wake up on the ground, stuck under rubble and covered in dirt. I scream Oliver’s name, but no respond. I start panicking, thinking he is hurt or passed out somewhere, or even worse… dead.
