Chapter 1: The Past

The first day of grade 1 was when Hatsuyuki Amano introduced himself to Akari Natsushima.

They were best friends, did everything together and for each other!

He made flower crowns with her, painted with her, played with toys with her.

They knew when one of them wasn’t feeling well, both mentally and physically. Seeing through their acts of acting fine.

They took care of each other and checked in with each other all the time.

They defended each other.

He even came to her 6th birthday party, even while knowing everyone else was going to ditch her.

They walked side by side up until they were in grade 8.

He got sucked into his friend groups, but that did not change him as a person.

He stayed humble and kept his beautiful personality traits.

He still caught up with her once in a while.

It just became awkward to make conversation anymore, so Akari just sort of ghosted him until he spoke to her. Akari had fallen in love already too.

Hatsuyuki fell in love too, but they were both idiots in realizing it was mutual.

However, that was not the only reason, their friendship went downhill.

Something not bad but not great, happened.

They were summoned by the former God of the Moon and Goddess of the Sun.

They told them that they were the next in line to take the throne.

. . .

Akari exclaimed, “hold on a second. I’m the what now!”

“No Oji-san, this cannot be right.” (Oji-san is the wizard they stationed in Ontario, Canada. He’s really close with them, so that’s why they call him uncle. This was just to keep an eye on the Mystaras who enter, leave, and are living there. Mystaras are the magical beings that will be spoken about in throughout the book.)

“Akari. They never make a mistake.”

“How is that possible, no living being is perfect! There are so many Akari Natsushimas, maybe they got the wrong face?!”

“Akari, stop being ridiculous and disrespecting the royals.”

“Oji-san, I don’t want to do it,” she whined.

“Enough Akari! Fix yourself! You are a strong leader, fearless, beautiful inside and out, and more than capable. Don’t you dare think less of yourself, at least in the walls of your uncle! Leave from here and get yourself together!”

. . .

Both Akari and Hatsuyuki do not know that there is only one wizard in the Ontario and go to the same one. It is an invisible building that only Mystaras can walk through.

On the way out, they bump into each other.

They were frozen in their spots and were very confused to see each other, as this was the darkest secret they kept.

They both said each other’s names, with shock in their voices.

Then, “what are you doing here?”

“You first?” Simultaneously once again.

“Okay, I’ll go,” Hatsuyuki said.

“I’m sorry I never told you, I just never knew you were one and I didn’t want to scare you by telling you I had powers this insane.”

“Honestly same, but even if I was not a Mystara and you had told me, I would have not loved you,as a friend, any less or have been scared. I do have to go though. Catch you later?”

“Yes, sure, no problem,” Hatsuyuki replied caught off guard.

Akari began walking away.

“Akari,” he tried yelling but in came out in a whisper.

“I won’t let her go like that again.”

. . .

“In love boy?” Oji-san questioned as he looked through the door he opened when Hatsuyuki said that last sentence.

“How long were you listening Oji-san?” Hatsuyuki asked.

“Doesn’t matter. I know she was the one for you a long time ago,” Oji-san said as a smile formed on his wrinkly face.

Then, he slammed his heavy, hardcover book on the desk and said, “now, let’s get to what I asked you to come here for, before your couples therapy session.”

Hatsuyuki flinched in response.

Then said, “Um, Oji-san.”

“Yes, Hatsuyuki?”

“You do know couples therapy is done with both partners present right?”

“I’m not stupid, kid, it was just apart of my joke that you youngsters don’t get nowadays.” He replied trying to sound believing.

“Right.”

“You are to ascend to the throne as the new God of the Moon.” He said straight-faced and calmly.

“What the fu-?”

"Don’t you dare swear in my building, boy! I will not hesitate to kick you out.”

“I’m sorry Oji-san, it’s just-”

“I don’t want to hear the same thing I heard from Akari.”

Hatsuyuki looked up after shaking his head, with his eyes wide open, in disbelief.

“That, oh I can’t do it, I’m so young, blah blah blah.” He mimicked.

“Leave!”

The building disintegrating as Hatsuyuki was practically thrown out.

He ran his fingers through his hair. Suddenly grabbing it, whipping his head forward, bending his back. He did this as he kept repeating in disbelief, “no, no, this cannot be it, no no.”
