CHAPTER ONE - MAXINE

I certainly didn't plan this.

But here I am.

Standing in my stepbrother's room looking for my drawings. I worked really hard on them and was proud of myself.

There were hours of my precious time and effort. Now they were missing and I had a pretty good idea where they were, just not the exact placement. How unfortunate for me, when I finally succeed at something he has to ruin it.

He's destroying me slowly but thoroughly.

I need those paintings for my little art exhibition at the local talent function. There'll be some known sponsors and it's the perfect opportunity show my talent and, maybe one day, make it in the art industry.

When I went through every place possible and still couldn't find any of my paintings, I went back into my own room defeated and angry.

No, not angry.

I was pissed, because if I don't find them in time I may miss a once in a lifetime opportunity.

So, now stomping down the stairs I bump into my stepdad, Greg. “Oh, sorry didn't see you there." I apologize immediately.

Even though he's been my dad over five years now I still don't think of him as my dad, don't get me wrong I still respect him, it's just not the same. He tries showing me the fatherly kind of love and cares for me the same as my mom.

When dad left I didn't trust men and even now after I went to therapy for a year I never really got over my fear of someone leaving me like that. For my mom it was really hard and doubts herself a lot, but Greg always makes her feel better and I admire the way his words can soothe and make my mom see reason again.

“Hi Max, don't worry if I survived your apocalyptic personality until now a little clash is nothing." He chuckles and smiles. “Yeah, guess so." A smile tugs on my lips.

“Hey Greg, do you by any chance know where my paintings went? The ones I've been working on for the last three months?" I ask hoping he maybe saw them somewhere. “The really pretty ones? Yeah, I saw them in the basement last night when I went to check up on Killian." His smile slightly wavering at his name.

Oh, how I hate that prick. I plaster on a big fake smile mumbling “Thanks," as I dash for the basement door.

Hope you enjoyed the first chapter of my book. I wrote this thinking how I always couldn't find my things only to find them in my siblings room. There's a bit of me in the main character. I mean who doesn't want to be a main character in someone's story, right?

Let me know what you liked or didn't like about this story and your thoughts about it, so I can make it even better.
