The Sky

I was encased by warmth and brilliant light. I let my worries and fears of the unknown melt into nothingness. I floated through the air, the clouds kissing my face and tickling my arms.

Ok. Stop right there. This is the stereotypical way of what entering Heaven should feel like. This is not what happened. I repeat. This is not what happened. Allow me to show you what actually happens when you go to Heaven. Trust me when I say that the experience will make you want to die...again.

I was zooming through the air, going so fast that I swear my face was going to rip off. One minute my body was shooting into the clouds and the next, I was plummeting toward the ground. A harsh, blinding light shone into my eyes, preventing me from seeing anything. My heart repeatedly jolted from my throat and back down into my stomach. I was too scared to scream.

I felt everything stop. I realized I was simply floating in the air. Light surrounded me and a shooting pain erupted between my shoulder blades. The pain had stopped as quickly as it had come. My long brown hair was all over my face. I blew a few strands away and a horrible realization came over me. I looked at behind me. I screamed loud enough to wake the dead. Large, silky brown wings sprouted from my back. They were flapping up and down, keeping me in the air. I looked up toward the light and cautiously flapped my wings faster. I felt myself rise through the air.

I followed my instinct and continued to fly higher and higher. I bursted through the fluffy clouds. Fear melted away. That is until my wings decided to disappear into my back.

I screamed as I plummeted. This is it. I'm going to die. I covered my eyes with my hands, hoping that this was all a dream. I felt myself jerk back up, but I wasn't flying.

I opened my eyes. A girl, much younger than I was, was holding my hand and pulling me upward. Her long blonde locks framed her face and she smiled at me. I let her fly me toward the golden light. And then she dropped me. Consider this a lesson, ladies and gentlemen. Don't trust innocent eight-year-olds that try to fly you to Heaven.

I was being dropped again. But this time, I landed on solid ground and it didn't hurt. Yay me. I stood up, my knees wobbly. She took my hand and led me forward. I could see majestic, silver gates that were adorned in steel ornaments. They took my breath away. Haha. You see what I did there? Cause I'm dead! The girl spoke for the first time.

"Welcome to Irae, your new home," she whispered.
