Introduction
For years, Kanna felt aimless in the life she was living, devoid of a purpose others seemed to instinctively have. Feeling trapped in a life as an ordinary student, acquiring horrible grades and the feeling of the ever-looming shadow of parental disappointment hanging over her. Most would find such an existence a sad and sorrowful endeavor.
Yet, for Kanna, there was a weird comfort in the simplicity she was living. Despite her academic failures and a not-so bright future, she found solace at fading into the background and standing by to silently look upon others achieving their goals.
Being a little shy, and occasionally awkward, she always resorted back to her trusty phone to completely disappear from reality. The device providing the much needed escape far away from her own reality. Engaging in endless scrolls through online blogs, social media, and the timelines of her classmates brought Kanna a sense of happiness.
“Look at all these others finding their thing”, was a recurring thought that frequently crossed her mind as her finger swiped past yet another uplifting post.
The years swiftly passed in her Highschool life, the same mundane routine and the weight of her parents expectations only weighing more heavily on her shoulders only intensifiying over time. Then finally one day, Kanna reached a point in her life where she decided to take the difficult step to step forward, stepping over threshold and taking control of her own life.
A flight ticket in her hand, a bag slung over her shoulder and her trusted phone in hand: Kanna took the step forward to embark on a journey towards a new chapter in her life.
A chapter she herself chose.
