Chapter 1
Hi. Well I don’t know what to say. Maybe I should start off by talking about myself. It would be particularly rude of me not to, since you are reading a book about my life. (Chuckling with joyous coy).
Ok, I’m a 21 year old woman, and my name is Maria Coles, there I introduced myself, are you happy now. No! (Sighs in an exasperated tone) Fine, fine. Hey, just because my name is Maria, doesn’t mean I’m Hispanic. Because, I’ am not. In actuality, I’m Native American; don’t ask me what tribe, I barely know anything about my heritage. Like, were we the Indians that basically grew corn all day, or the strong silent type. Don’t ask me anything about sitting bear or crouching tiger. I don’t know, mainly because I don’t ask.
Anyway, I came from a wealthy family with a lot of problems, and I do mean a lot. Let’s see, where do I start? Ah! I know now, with my abusive, alcoholic, possessive father. Don’t get me wrong, I know he loves me; he just has a hard way of showing it. That’s not sometimes, that’s all the time. That’s all. Next in line is my verbally abusive in a deranged way mother. Yes, it’s all clear now, this girl's going to be a ball of mess, probably a serial killer. Yes, this is a crime story. Not! Although, I ’am an only child, I pretty much get to endure this torture for as long as they’re alive.
Oh, you’re wondering why I haven’t left the nest yet... (Chuckling hysterically) Trust me if I had a choice I would’ve been gone on my 18th birthday. Unfortunately, I was in a car accident, and I have been, and currently am in therapy. No, I don’t mean physical therapy, I just need psychological help. Dang, I kind of set myself up with that one. We’ll I ’am proud to say that I’ am making a really fast transition for myself. I’m building myself up, and I ’am getting stronger, but it is taking far too long for me to recover. At least I think so. Let’s face it; what I think really does matter. Do I sound slightly self-absorbed..? Yes, I believe I have reached that place in my life where everything has to be about me. I mean, I am but at the tender age of 21, so I am basically still a baby. What does a baby do people? That’s right, they cry.
Now back to what I was dragging on about. (Scuffing) Myself. I have this boyfriend that I’ve been dating a little over 3 years, 5 months, 1 week, and 2 days. It seems long, but think of it from a dogs point of view. (Pauses for dramatic effect) Everything is becoming so routine, it seems like the days become months, and the months become years. Next thing you know their old. Older then you are in a mere 5 years, and you remember them as just a puppy. You held them in the palm of your hands, feed them by mouth, and I’m not talking about the milk you would get from a womans bosom. I mean the baby bottle people. When I do have kids, I am not breast feeding. The point I was trying to make before I started ranting was basically, my time with Athen is short in comparison to other girls and their boyfriends. You know what though; he does make me feel better. A little, I guess. So I can’t really nitpick at the relationship, although, sometimes, I have noticed that I tend to um, create these conflicts between us. I feel as if any minute now he’s going to break up with me. And for what, a silly little fight that I started over nothing. What kind of boyfriend would do that, really? But if that were to happen, I’d be devastated, mortified, impossible to fathom. I’d be just too complicated to bare, I wouldn’t know how to handle it. Seeing as how, he is the first and only guy to be in love with me and vice versa.
Okay, I didn’t ever think I’d be saying this, but enough about me. Wow, what am I saying? It’s all about me. Ok, ok I’m moving on.
I’m going to see Athen today (gushing at the thought of him). He is coming over my house. Since we’re really not allowed to go anywhere, because I’m supposed to be supervised by somebody 12 months a year, 3-4 weeks a month, 7 days a week, and 24 hours a day. This lifestyle is really ridiculous and embarrassing. Oh I almost forgot one, FUSTRATING as heck. Even though I’ve been making really great, tremendous progress, I just wonder when all of it will be over. When can I say that it wasn’t real, it was only a dream. I wake up from this horrible nightmare, and find myself drifting-no flying to this place of sanctuary, hope and love. Nothing is ever enough; if it’s not one thing then it’s another. I just hope my prince Athen gets to tag along with me, I really think he is the one for me. I understand, and know I mess up a lot of my relationships, but I’m working really hard on this one. My behavior has changed somewhat after the accident. Slightly moody, but I believe that’s all due to my zodiac sign [The crab], but I’m usually really sweet, and kind. Even though, others have a different perception of me. It’ll still be alright, I’m trying to make amends, and do things right this time.
Ding Dong. Doorbell rings at Maria’s home. Her father Bruno answered the door, and let Athen in, then he walked into the kitchen to pour himself another cup of vodka tonic, and walked back to the end of the stair case holding and sipping on his drink. (Daddy never was a guzzler. Yup, his breakfast, lunch, and dinner, aren’t dads the greatest.)
“Maria! Athen’s here. Get your butt downstairs before I get a switch,” He yelled upstairs. [Turning around, to see Athen looking at him with those eyes] (Oh I did forget to mention dad has a phobia of people starring at him. A big phobia) Bruno brushed past Athen on his way to the kitchen, hitting him with his left shoulder.
Athen just walked towards the center of the room, and sits on the couch and waited for Maria to accompany him downstairs. Maria descending downstairs was more alert than usual with her long brunette hair, in a simple ponytail coming down her back, with 2 strands of hair making a centerpiece of bangs in the front of her face. She was elegantly dressed in a half provocative, half schoolgirl dress that was completely black, and it looked brand new, at least Athen knew he hasn’t seen it before. So tight, it hugged her body in all the right places, and began pushing things up and out with every step she took down the stairs. Her body covered in glitter and oil, you could see the sparkles a mile away as it glistened off the oil. (No exaggeration at all. Seriously, it appeared as if she fell into a sea of glitter. But Athen didn’t want to say anything) Her eyes cascaded a shimmer gloss above her lids making the color above her eyes stand out even more so than it did on its own. She wore her mother’s bright silver earrings and a heart pendant necklace that Athen actually bought her for her 21st birthday (Awe how sweet). She smelled like a beautiful bouquet of daisies with a tint of chocolate. Her cleavage peeked out of the beautiful, v-neck silky dress she wore, so her pendant fell in-between her bosoms, which is what she anticipated happening, so Athen could want her as much as she wanted him. (Intriguing is it not. I know I am, and I’m the narrator.)
“Hi dear. How long have you been waiting?” She said as she came down the last step to face him. [Pushing her hair to the side of her face, and smiling ever so angelically]
“Not that long actually, like five minutes at the least.” Rising from the couch, and straightening his clothes out. “You look amazing by the way.” [Blushing uncontrollably]
“Give me a hug silly… Um, I would like one now.” She waved her hands towards her, gesturing that he come hug her.
“Oh, right.” He gave her a hug, but as he was about to let go she grabbed him and held him tighter, and he whispered in her ear... “Why are you all dressed up tonight babe?”
[In a sarcastic tone] “If I told you, I would have to kill you.” She began laughing even though her lips were sealed. “Ok, I’m kidding. I just wanted to look pretty for you.” (She was lying; it was actually the anniversary of their engagement. The time he proposed to her.) She couldn’t believe that he actually forgot. How could he forget such a special day? Especially, since he was the one to propose. (Dang men ARE so stupid)
“Can you come with me into the kitchen please? I made something for you.” She grabbed his arm, and began leading the way.
He followed behind her with his arm leading his path, but Bruno happen to still have been in there stuffing his face with some chocolate soufflé, and drinking some red wine.
(What happened to the vodka?)
“Dad no!! How could you, that was for Athen and me to eat. I made that myself, now its ruined” Tears drew in her eyes, like puddles on a rainy day, as they streamed down her face Athen grabbed her, and pressed her head against his chest.
“Oh kid you’re so moody, it’s just cake I’ll buy you another one in the morning. It wasn’t even all that good anyway. Want some advice, get over yourself.” Smiling sinisterly, and still eating bits and pieces of the cake.
The moment he said that Maria started wailing these god forsaken awful screams, and her mother Claudia rushed downstairs to see what that noise was.
She immediately sees her daughter crying like a big baby and says, “God child, wake the neighbors for goodness sake. Whatever your making such a ruckus about isn’t that big of a deal, your just over-reacting. You always over-react. Athen I don’t see how you can deal with such a cry baby.” Claudia looked at Athen questioningly; anticipating him to answer, but Athen looked away from her, and brushed Maria’s hair. He started to rub her shoulders, and Bruno went upstairs with Claudia. Athen lead the way to the living room, on the couch, making sure to be careful with her.
Starring at Athen she blurted out, “Why is everything going wrong for me? Why is this happening to me? In fact, I want to know what I did to deserve any of this. Know what, I just can’t live like this. Get me out of here, please.”
“Babe, I ’m going to get you out of here, if it kills me, I swear.” Trying his best to console her, and put her at ease.
Maria lays her head on Athens chest, and closes her eyes. In all actuality, she couldn’t just fall asleep, because she was too angry, and just terribly confused. While upstairs Bruno was talking to Claudia.
“I swear your daughter acts like a spoiled brat.” Bruno says placing his bottle on top of the nightstand table.
“My child. Ha! Don’t put her all on me Mister. You know it takes 2 people to procreate, and I doubt one person could do it all themselves.”
“Have you ever heard of insemination?” [Smiling ever so gently] “So it is possible to do it alone, how do you think your mother had you.” He chuckled grabbing his bottle off the table and sipping some more red wine.
Claudia laid back in the bed, and pouts. “Whatever, jack off. I’m through.” Turning the lamp off on her side of the bed
Chuckling hysterically “Your done with me now, when did you start?” [Laughing louder] “I don’t care regardless. Be done with me. I don’t need you, let alone want you.” He took a long swig out of the wine bottle until it was all gone. Turning on his side, to lie down in bed.
(I guess the saying is true. Drunken words are sober thoughts.)
Back downstairs, Maria was still upset, but Athen had calmed her down, a little bit anyway. He gently kissed her forehead as he held her close to him.
“Don’t worry babe, it’s not that big of a deal, your dad said he’ll buy one in the morning for you.” He lifted her head, ran his fingers down the side of her face, and wiped the tears off her cheeks.
Maria suddenly jerked, angry at Athen. Mainly for forgetting their anniversary, but also for telling her that her dad is going to buy one in the morning. She made that freaking soufflé herself darn it. “You can go now.” She said demandingly pushing herself away from him, with her hands on her hips as she stood up in front of him.
“Why? “ He said as he stood up beside her. “Will you be, ok? I can stay with you.” [His big eyes bulging out at her]
“No I’ll be fine, you can go.” [Looking at the nearest wall clock] “Seriously, just leave!” She was angry with him, but more angry with herself for getting so moody over his actions. As much as it disappointed her, right now she could care less about his feelings. Which happens to be so unbelievable because, she really does care about him. Sitting back down, crossing her legs, and folding her arms.
So Athen grabbed his jacket from the arm stool of the living room chair, he looked back at Maria waiting for something, anything really. As he was putting his jacket on ever so slowly, Maria pushed her body up off the sofa, and urged Athen to get out by helping him with his jacket, and getting the door for him.
“Maria, what are you doing?” [She began fastening his jacket a little faster]
“I said get out!” She yelled.
“What did I do?” He starts smirking, and rubbing the top of his head. He couldn‘t understand her frustration, but her anger always turned him on. He always hoped that one of her dramatic fits would turn into some incredible angry sex. “I wasn’t the one to eat your freaking cake though.”
Maria huffs, and pushes him out of her home. Well her parents home, but it’s her home too none the least. She slammed the door and seated herself gracefully down on the couch in the living room. She placed her right hand on her face and inhaled deeply, pondering the events of her tragic anniversary. On one hand she stayed up all night slaving over that stupid cake, after going to the market and getting that red wine, and the exact brand that Athen likes. In fact the only brand Athen likes of wine period. Then she not only would dazzle him with things to fuel his body, but she also dressed accordingly to fit the occasion. Wearing a sexy black dress, that sparkled from the jewelry that accented her body parts. She focused on uplifting her breast with a push up bra, Athens favorite part of her body and softened her skin with Coconut Shea butter with the scent of chocolate and body spray with the smell of daisies her favorite flower. She made sure that today was perfect for not only Athen, but her as well. She always dreamed of one day making a single man feel as important to him as he makes her feel. Her frustration grew more as she concentrated on today’s events. She brushed her hair back with her hand and got up from the couch. She headed to her bedroom, closed her door, and fell asleep. All the stressing out over everything made her tired. All that drama was extremely exhausting.
